to think that if curry with na'an is fine then so is curry on toast?

Although judging by the reactions I received at work, you would think not!

Got to work and colleague said "Sorry if I whiff of garlic, had pizza for lunch" and I said "oh I had curry on toast so I wont notice anyway!" and made a joke about us being left alone as we were both stinky.

The look on her face! She genuinely was appalled at the idea of curry on toast. So I asked if she has curry with na'an bread and she said that that was different.

I am not seeing the issue here. Apart from anything else, the crunchy toast is a nice contrast to the curry texture so is preferable imo, plus left over curry the next day always tastes better than when it is made fresh.

AIBU?!

I'd rather have the toast with curry rather than under it going soggy - same goes for most 'saucy' foods inc baked beans.

Our usual bread nowadays is homemade oat and wholemeal flatbreads (a recipe that evolved during lockdown) - they're good with curry, toasted or not.

purplecorkheart · 10/10/2022 18:37

That lady Prue from bakeoff has written an entire book of meals on toast.

I think curry on toast is a great idea

Mrsuntidy · 10/10/2022 18:39

I like curry with bread and butter so I guess it is similar?

declutteringmymind · 10/10/2022 18:40

Try leftover curry in a toastie.

I often make samosa filling and bung it in a toastie.

SpudleyLass · 10/10/2022 18:50

Sounds great - curry toasties sound even better

When I'm feeling lazy, I I like to dip toast in gravy.

AltheaVestr1t · 10/10/2022 18:51

Curry on toast is great. A bit of curry in a toastie with cheese is even better, particularly mince curry with peas!

SnoozyLucy7 · 10/10/2022 18:52

Sounds delicious! And what’s the difference between that and beans on toast? It’s like I will very happily eat a good curry or casserole for breakfast, but get slated for it because it’s not a “traditional breakfast “. Meanwhile, the person most offended by this tucks into a full English breakfast ( which I also love), which consists of fried sausages, fried bacon, fried black pudding, fried eggs, fried tomatoes, cooked baked beans and loads of toast!

Aprilx · 10/10/2022 18:53

Never heard of curry on toast before. It sounds awful because it is the wrong type of bread.

BMW6 · 10/10/2022 18:54

Leftover curry on toast is DIVINE. As is lime pickle on toast.

There are some terrible cunts on here 😉

ExtraJalapenos · 10/10/2022 18:56

Asian here. Curry with bread/toast is incredibly common in an Asian household when u either have leftover curry and can't make roti/rice with it for whatever reason or you run out of whatever accompaniment. (I just can't be arsed to make roti so.....toast for the win!)

Lmao. Do you feel ill a lot? Poor thing.

Weird response. Why would I feel ill a lot? Do you not have anything that makes you feel a bit queasy if you think about eating it?

Has this person never heard of kedgeree?

Literally had this about 20 mins ago. Lime pickle rules all

Cold curry on buttered toast. Lush.
However ,tinned ravioli on toast is wrong.

Eeiliethya · 10/10/2022 19:00

YANBU.

Food of the gods.

Cold curry on buttered bread for breakfast was my go to hangover cure back in days of old.

Has to be Lurpak on the bread or it's just not the same.

Curlygirl06 · 10/10/2022 19:01

I had left- over cauliflower cheese on toast tonight, food of the gods!

CornedBeef451 · 10/10/2022 19:02

I like leftover curry and have squished a slice of bread as an emergency chappati replacement but never even considered toast. You might be a genius!

DS likes a curry sandwich and will even take one in his lunchbox. He must stink.

They would probably pass out at the thought of devilled kidneys or kippers too

Fairislefandango · 10/10/2022 19:02

Some people are very set in their ways and narrow-minded. They are both types of bread, made of largely the same ingredients. I mean... yes naan is more orthodox with curry, and it's perfectly reasonable to prefer it that way, but how on earth can eating toasted regular bread with curry be 'revolting' but naan with curry is nice? Nonsensical. Bread/toast is a pretty mild and neutral-tasting thing. Hard to see how it could be revolting whatever it was paired with tbh!

Eeiliethya · 10/10/2022 19:02

Weirdly though, I hate coronation chicken sandwiches.

But chicken jalfrezi on break 🤤

Eeiliethya · 10/10/2022 19:03

On bread not break.

But could have it on a break so 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😆.

It's a texture thing, not a taste thing for me.

ladymalfoy45 · 10/10/2022 19:08

Hang on. Peanut butter and mango chutney on toast.

Well, it works for Prue Leith - she’s just released a book, Bliss on Toast:

The truth is I love anything on toast. Scrambles (of course), bangers, beans, even tinned sardines. But the more I thought about it the more I realised that anything that tastes good on a plate – coq au vin, curry, steak, baked aubergines, smoked salmon and avocado, all taste even better on toast.

I came on to say the same thing about Pru. I heard her talking about her food on toast book on the radio the other day!

Petrasaur · 10/10/2022 19:11

It’s just bread. Why would it be weird? It’s leftovers and lunch.
