Our bedroom is set-up so that if you’re lying on the bed, the en-suite is to your left, and the bedroom door is to your right.

Last night, I went to bed first and decided I’d sleep on the right.

DH came up a little while later and we started watching a movie that was quite scary. When we finished, I was unnerved and asked DH to swap sides so that he could as nearer the door and could save me from approaching slasher killers.

He laughed, told me I was being silly and our rules are whoever is first to bed gets to choose the side so I needed to suck it up, and he was already comfortable and starting to snooze.

But OP, if you don’t have sides, how will the monsters know which of you is which?

I hope you mean the left as you are looking at the bed and not as you are lying in it. Otherwise you are very very wrong

When monsters are having their nocturnal snack they are just like humans in as much as they like savoury (DH) first followed by a DW for pudding (because we females are made of sugar and spice, naturally).

So weird not to have a side. Never met anyone without a side!

You ask who keeps knickers and/or boxers in their bed side table, I think it's far weirder to have a TV in the bedroom.

I don’t have a tv in my bedroom- streamed the movie on an iPad.

I still think underwear on a bedside table is weird.

My side is always nearest the toilet so swaps if we're away to reflect this if necessary.

I'm almost over the no sides issue though as I'm consumed by envy at the no sleep issues at 'only 40'. I've had horrible insomnia for the last nine years and have only got menopause impacted sleep to look forward to.

I do have a question though. Do all of your partners stick to their side overnight? When DP is here he frequently turns over. This is unreasonable, right? Surely the only acceptable way to sleep is to go to your own side and then face out, still, all night? Not face your partner and <shudder> breathe on them

I live alone and have a king size bed to myself and still have a side that I start out on, but am prone to starfishing and sleeping diagonally.

When DP stays over he has his side, but I still starfish. When we stay at his I’m on the wrong side and don’t sleep well. I tend to sleep on my left and then have him on his right breathing at me <shudder>
