Our bedroom is set-up so that if you’re lying on the bed, the en-suite is to your left, and the bedroom door is to your right.

Last night, I went to bed first and decided I’d sleep on the right.

DH came up a little while later and we started watching a movie that was quite scary. When we finished, I was unnerved and asked DH to swap sides so that he could as nearer the door and could save me from approaching slasher killers.

He laughed, told me I was being silly and our rules are whoever is first to bed gets to choose the side so I needed to suck it up, and he was already comfortable and starting to snooze.

I can't believe you don't have a 'side'!
My DH enjoys to nap on my side which I hate 😒

Mine too 😡

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 10/10/2022 16:24

@Rainbowsunshine1 does your side alternate if you go to a hotel? Even that's too much ambiguity for me

That depends on the side the door is ABSOLUTELY 😆

Doggiedoodoos · 10/10/2022 16:29

Well I have just realised that my partner values his own life more than mine because in my house, his house and any hotels we have stayed he is always by the window and I the door.

Fucker.

InsertPunHere · 10/10/2022 16:29

I can’t believe couples live in such anarchic ways!
What about the stack of books at the side of the bed? And your water bottles, do you just share?

chilliesandspices · 10/10/2022 16:29

Angelofthenortheast · 10/10/2022 15:57

So does that mean that both bedsides have a random distribution of knickers, boxers, piles of books, phone chargers and secret chocolate bars on the floor?!

🤣 I feel so exposed by this list

Ski4130 · 10/10/2022 16:31

I’d be way more worried about not having a set side of the bed, that’s psychopathic behaviour that!

Psychonabike · 10/10/2022 16:34

Eew. Not having my own side of the bed makes me feel quite ill.

Does anyone else remember the poo crumb thread?

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 10/10/2022 16:41

Lochjeda · 10/10/2022 16:06

We don't have sides either. We like to switch it up occasionally.

Switch it up? I'd switch it out...on to the floor with a thump

@DownAtTheBodyShop

🤨no sides??

👺weirdo!

I'm struggling to get past that, then there's... no bedside drawers?!

nope Nope nope. Could Not Cope!!

you should have told DH you did get in bed first, so it was your choice!! Unless there's a specific rule about not changing sides?

it has clarified something though, my friend isn't unique! She makes her DH sleep on the 'door side' wherever they stay, so although the have 'sides' (like normal folk do!!) the 'door thing' ranks higher priority!

she even makes ME sleep 'door side' when we go away! I do still warn her I'm likely to fall out of bed if I'm on the wrong side!! And I'm unlikely to be able to save her from monsters. 😂

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 10/10/2022 16:42

Oh & your DH was mean, is he always such a shit head??

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 10/10/2022 16:44

BadNomad · 10/10/2022 16:25

What is this insanity. Yes, you're a wuss. Just turn a lamp on.

If DP falls asleep on "my" side of the bed, I take my pillows from under him and throw them down to the bottom of the bed and sleep that way so I'm still on the left side.

Ah, a lamp, a well known bit of kit that prevents murders!

ilovesooty · 10/10/2022 16:47

I thought everyone had a side.

I don't see why he should have moved either.

It does! I have been putting the lamp on for 40 years and never been murdered once.

This is a very disturbing thread 😐

Who keeps boxers and/or knickers on their bedside table?!

Your DH is the wuss and at odds with most men.

Apparently men prefer to sleep beside the door because evolution has programmed them to subconscious position themselves for easy post-coital escape...

Hankunamatata · 10/10/2022 16:51

Switch sides. NO. you have own side with own pillow and all the crap you might need like tissues and books and earphone and chargers

Not me but I do keep other stuff there, books, tablets, my phone charger etc

Harrystylestutu · 10/10/2022 16:55

This thread is giving me anxiety 😂 where do you keep tissues/ a drink/ old random cough sweets etc? Surely you have to take your own pillow when changing sides at least?

Bikeybikeface · 10/10/2022 16:56

YABU A) you don’t have sides and B) if a slasher killer broke in he’d have the both of you 🤷🏽‍♀️

Harrystylestutu · 10/10/2022 16:56

I keep my knickers in their too! Top draw random crap, second and third draw underwear and pyjamas

Harrystylestutu · 10/10/2022 16:57

Drawer!*

CheezePleeze · 10/10/2022 17:01

Not having a side has sent me into a tailspin.

I'm now questioning whether any of us even exist??

Who needs all of that stuff to sleep?

I’m beginning to think I’m very low maintenance.

Beefilm · 10/10/2022 17:02

Agree with everyone else, how can you not have a fixed side?

But if it makes you feel any better, when we sleep in a different room, eg hotel room, staying in someone else's house, etc, I will deviate from my fixed side of the bed so dh is nearer the door if my usual side happens to be nearer the door. Nothing to do with murderers or monsters though: it dates back to when we had little children and I wanted dh to be the one who was disturbed/puked on/called upon to act in an emergency in the middle of the night. I have demons of my own you see.

BadNomad · 10/10/2022 17:02

Do you...sleep through at night!?
