Am I just a wuss?

Our bedroom is set-up so that if you’re lying on the bed, the en-suite is to your left, and the bedroom door is to your right.

Last night, I went to bed first and decided I’d sleep on the right.

DH came up a little while later and we started watching a movie that was quite scary. When we finished, I was unnerved and asked DH to swap sides so that he could as nearer the door and could save me from approaching slasher killers.

He laughed, told me I was being silly and our rules are whoever is first to bed gets to choose the side so I needed to suck it up, and he was already comfortable and starting to snooze.

This thread is giving me anxiety 😂 where do you keep tissues/ a drink/ old random cough sweets etc? Surely you have to take your own pillow when changing sides at least?

No, just use the pillows that were put on the each side of the bed when it was dressed that morning.

This would be me all night if my husband slept on my side of the bed!

Am I just a wuss?

I think anyone who broke in and found out you CHANGE SIDES would be more scared by you. That is psychopathic behaviour 😲

Brilliant 🤣🤣

DutchessOfMuck · 10/10/2022 17:09

Dh and I have separate bedrooms, but we still have sides in each bed. Dh always sleeps at the door side so I can sleep peacefully knowing he would get murdered first and I could escape.

My jaw is literally on the floor. Never in my 40 odd years of life have I never heard of no sides..

I actually need to go and sit down with wine and snacks to help me process this thread.

Covid
War
Economic crash
Talks of power rations
NO SIDES!!!!! NO SIDES!!!!!

myexisawanker · 10/10/2022 17:10

The horror of the sides issues aside
You are definitely a wuss one person in a bed isn't going to stop an axe murderer !

Usernamesarenoteasy · 10/10/2022 15:57

Wait....
Everybody has their own individual side of the bed? All the time? The same side?
I have never done this.....

Yes. I've never heard of anyone not having a side! The chaos....

But you wouldn't escape! Him (and the murderer) are between you and the door...

Vapeyvapevape · 10/10/2022 17:13

How do you argue that he's too far over on your side if YOU DON'T HAVE A SIDE????

DownAtTheBodyShop · 10/10/2022 17:13

BadNomad · 10/10/2022 17:02

Do you...sleep through at night!?

Yes! I’m only 40. Surely I’m years away from waking during the night?

OP posts:
DutchessOfMuck · 10/10/2022 17:14

@CallTheMobWife I've never realized the flaw in my plan before. Will need to think of something. Something that doesn't require changing sides.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/10/2022 17:17

I have a confession. Before DP and I lived together we had different sides in my bed and the bed at his house.

I realise that is deeply weird and I’m very sorry.

I wouldn’t dream of this willy nilly swapping malarkey now.

YOU are the mobster op!

Batshittery · 10/10/2022 17:17

Er, sorry OP, but my sleep problems started when I was 40ish (and continue 18 years on)

Not quite sure what that has to do with not having sides though. Not everyone gets sleep problems.

Bobshhh · 10/10/2022 17:19

This is the behaviour of an absolute maniac.

I cannot believe you share pillows! And have no possessions allocated each side of the bed.

In our old room husband was closer the door and in this one I'm nearer the door but that's still preferable to swapping sides completely!

JaneorEleven · 10/10/2022 17:20

We have our own sides, but mine is by the door. I think my husband is trying to have me killed. Should I LTB?

waterlego · 10/10/2022 17:23

Just popping in to join in the chorus of WTF?

No sides?! Utter madness.

We stick to the same sides even if we’re on holiday or staying at someone else’s house.

My side is closer to the bedroom door and to the en suite.

I’m 38 and don’t think I’ve slept through the night without waking since I was a child!
I couldn’t share pillows. We each have our own pillows which were chosen to suit us. My bedside drawer has my kindle, ear plugs, lavender pillow spray in etc. Switching sides is just pure odd!

This was a response to the OP saying she doesn't wake in the night as she's only 40

Menopause - higher frequency of weeing - needing toilet in the night - side nearest route to toilet wins.

You are insane OP. Bad enough you don't have a side but not to have your own pillows???? 😱

Florin · 10/10/2022 17:32

We don’t have sides either we swap about and our pillows are identical so it doesn’t matter which side. We have bedside tables but have a bit of both of our stuff in both most of it is crap anyway.

lemmein · 10/10/2022 17:52

I've just realised I always sleep on the door side, no matter where I am - even on holiday!

DH obviously wants me dead 😐

Georgeskitchen · 10/10/2022 17:58

You don't have sides?
How is this possible?

CuriousMariette · 10/10/2022 18:18

Another vote for sleeping the side away from the door due DH being quite happy to be murdered first. Different bedtimes would cause chaos without designated sides surely? Night’s away sides are decided well in advance. Compulsory side swapping occurs if there’s a thunder storm during the night to ensure DH is struck by lightning first - after 30 years he swaps during a storm with hardly a break his snoring pattern.

Whataplanker · 10/10/2022 18:23

I always sleep nearest the door. This means if we go on holiday, we sometimes have to swap sides so I can continue to be nearest the door. I always get up for the loo in the night so it makes sense (and I don't need to put my glasses on!) Plus I don't like feeling trapped.
