To think that JK Rowling is a lioness of epic proportions?

I don't think I'm being unreasonable. She's put everything out there to safeguard children in the face of vile misogyny and cowardice from many of her fellow writers.

She also always has beautiful hair.

I think the women of Iran burning their hijabs for freedom despite being killed for it are ‘lionesses of epic proportions’. But ‘feminists’ these days don’t seem to care about that. They care about what toilet a transwoman uses.

They care about a lot more than that. Reducing the discussion to toilets shows either complete ignorance about the wider issues, or a desire to throw around stupid comments like ‘why are you obsessed with someone’s genitals you perv’, or similar.

She's an absolute goddess. Honestly, if she ever decides to set up a political party she has my vote!

THIS in spades. Who on earth are sane GC people supposed to vote for????

EdgeOfACoin · 06/10/2022 11:16

Um, that is very, very, very rare that trans men have a fully functioning penis.

It's not rare. It's not possible. Transmen don't produce semen. Because they are female.

It's not about which toilet transwomen use. It's about the dignity, privacy and safety of women and girls in spaces free of males.
Just out of interest, how do you propose granting transwomen access to female spaces while excluding all other males? What's criteria are you using to differentiate between the two?

Yes. Trans rights activists are happy to talk about toilets all day long.

They are noticeably quieter on issues such as communal changing rooms (like the type found at your average Fitness First or Virgin Active, for instance), hospital wards and prisons.

Note that my earlier question on prisons was ignored.

Fortunately, feminists like JKR are willing to speak up on a range of these sorts of issues.

So men get their safe space and the rest of us don't? OK.....fine by me, but quite perplexing with the logic there.

No, female people get their safe space.

You are an idiot if you think this.

So if this person walked into the ladies loo you’d be fine with it? You can always tell a woman is a woman even if they look like a man?

We need a third space for all trans people, neither men or women who identify as and to varying degrees present themselves as the opposite sex do not get to trample on or dictate the availability of single sex spaces. They need a third unisex space. Or to have female single sex and unisex spaces (scapping the men's single sex space as the risk to men by the presence of men identified as women and of women who identify as men is far less than risk of men in women's single sex spaces)

Winecrispschocolatecats · 06/10/2022 11:21

CatsandFish · 06/10/2022 10:58

@Winecrispschocolatecats Wrong.

Gay people took nothing away from women. A gay man still uses men's facilities. A lesbian woman still uses women's facilities. Your argument is a logical fallacy and does not hold water. And you must know that on some level.

We have these facilities because women are vulnerable. You are supporting the removal of safeguarding, and womens human rights to privacy, dignity, safety. Evidence clearly proves it is you that is on the wrong side of history. You're a Mens Rights Activist who wants to strip women of our humanity and human rights. You are wrong, and you are on the wrong side of history. And more and more and more, each and every week, gender identity ideologues are waking to the fact that they were brainwashed and were and are on the wrong side of history.

Except I remember the old days when women wouldn't let their (7+) male children use the men's room 'because of the gays.' How butch lesbians were targeted in the women's bathrooms. How gay men were portrayed as predatory paedophiles, how all of them were viewed as 'unnatural' or 'sick in the head.' Very similar to the arguments now directed at trans people.

bellinisurge · 06/10/2022 11:21

They don't have any kind of functioning penis. A flesh tube made from your arm or thigh is not a functioning penis. It doesn't produce sperm

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 06/10/2022 11:22

I think JKR is great, love the Harry Potter stuff though my children haven't read the books ...very disappointing. I've bought her books for children as gifts and her strike novels for myself and as gifts.

When the last Harry Potter book came out I was at a night club and we all went to asda at 2am to buy books for ourselves and orders from friends. Had to leave one for a friend on her drive behind a car as her husband wanted to start reading as soon as he woke up 😀

Her bravery and generosity is outstanding ❤

Yep.

Additional third spaces for new builds and renovations, or existing buildings which can be easily retrofitted.

Female only and unisex everywhere else.

Knittingmonster · 06/10/2022 11:23

If mixed sex toilets are so safe, why is amnesty international doing a huge campaign to create single sex toilets in India and Africa? Either they are so racist they believe that males in those countries are more dangerous to females than those in Western countries or they know some males are dangerous to women however they present and that females need single sex spaces for dignity, privacy safety and comfort. What do you think @Winecrispschocolatecats ?

lifeturnsonadime · 06/10/2022 11:23

Transphobia is based on ignorance and fear

In a world where it's transphobic to point out that women's rights to single sex spaces are under threat because any man who identifies as a woman is one even to the detriment of women in prisons who are being housed with rapists (which we were told would never happen).

In a world where it's transphobic to point out that lesbians are told that they must accept penises in their dating pools or they are the bigots.

In a world where it's transphobic to point out that mutilating children and putting them on a lifetime of medical interventions which are necessary.

Please tell me where the ignorance and fear is?

Please tell me why pointing out these things is transphobic not just safeguarding?

Please tell me why the way trans rights impacts on lesbians is not homophobic?

Again, except gay people take no rights away from women.

You're desperately reaching.

And I have not come across one woman that said trans people are unnatural or sick in the head. All we want, is our human rights and safeguarding that took so much to fight for, to not be torn down. Unless you think women don't deserve these human rights feminists gave us, I cannot see what is wrong with that. Why do you want to erase womens human rights?

bellinisurge · 06/10/2022 11:24

I don't want anyone with a dick near me when I am in a state of undress unless I have agreed for them to be there.
I don't care how spinny the skirt, how long the hair, how tilty the head, how gentle the soul.
Lobby for a third space. Happy to have my tax payer/customer money spent on a third space.
But stay the fuck out of my space. And my daughter's.

bellinisurge · 06/10/2022 11:25

And, to be clear, a flesh tube sewn onto a female who wants one is not a dick.

Well this person has gone to extreme lengths to modify their body to look male. They probably wouldn't feel comfortable in the ladies loos.

This is why third spaces are better.

Complete and utter biology denial.

Slightly off the topic but 'pure evil' has always struck me as an odd phrase, can evil be pure?

EdgeOfACoin · 06/10/2022 11:35

Hi @Winecrispschocolatecats

I said upthread I would be more than happy to reconsider my gender critical stance if you could help me understand what the word 'woman' means, if it doesn't refer to biological sex.

In your view, what do all women and transwomen have in common that they don't have in common with any men or transmen? What is the defining characteristic (or characteristics) of a woman? I'd like to understand what it is that unites women and transwomen and means that they require separate spaces away from men and transmen.

I would like a non-circular definition to help me out here, please, as this is my biggest problem with accepting the trans activist narrative. Should I understand the basic premise, I will reexamine my existing views and see whether they hold up.
