I don't think I'm being unreasonable. She's put everything out there to safeguard children in the face of vile misogyny and cowardice from many of her fellow writers.

She also always has beautiful hair.

Sadly for you @figtrees, the whole UK population has indeed been “educating itself” so now everybody can see what a steaming pile of woman hating bullshit gender ideology truly is.

Although do crack on, your angry little outbursts on this thread only show up the grubby misogyny you espouse.

"you want to use weaponised ignorance to try and make me explain myself"

This is like a post modern poem or something.

I'm going to use this from now on when I can't answer a question.

I am stealing this for every time my boss asks me a question 😂

I don't know the sex of the posters here that are defending hatred of women, but if they are women, I find it sad that they have no idea how bad things were decades ago, and just how much they have benefitted from the hard work of our foresister feminists. Everything they have today, is as a result of the blood, sweat and tears of feminists. Everything. Everything. And now, they are dropping their draws and shitting all over the graves of the women who fought to give them the human rights they enjoy today, that enable them to shit on women today. Truly the definition of self-absorbed and ungrateful, and taking their human rights for granted. Women fought for these 'people' to have the rights they have today.

Caroffee · 06/10/2022 13:04

I love her. One of the only people in the public eye who is prepared to stand up for women's rights and common sense. Keep up the good work, JKR. Oh, and she's beautiful and writes amazing books too. Harry Potter will long outlive all her critics.

She pours millions and millions of pounds into charitable causes in an area that I work in. She also pays every single penny she is due to pay in tax. If everyone in the UK was like her it would be a much nicer place to live.

Indeed. I wish she would form a political party. I don’t generally think you should vote for celebrities, a la America, but it seems to be going that way anyway and she’d be far better than Bozo. We disagree somewhat on biological sex, but that doesn’t mean we don’t agree on a lot of much more important uk issues and that the country would be a much better place if someone who had the faintest clue what poverty looks like from the sharp end was in charge, rather than a government made up of top earners and their backers who have never known anything but vast wealth. Also, she would probably arrange for JRM to get covered in basilisk slime.

Eeksteek · 06/10/2022 13:09

I also believe she is the only billionaire ever to reduce herself to merely a millionaire through charitable donations. I haven’t fact checked it though.

frazzledali · 06/10/2022 05:16

She's not going to shag you.

YABU. She's pure evil.

What exactly has she said that's evil? Verbatim quotation.

WatchoRulo · 06/10/2022 13:10

YANBU and I don't even like Harry Potter

There are literally hundreds of trans voices online, who will answer all your questions.

If you can't be bothered to listen to them why should I rehash what they say here?

Go on YouTube and spend an afternoon watching videos.

We did listen to them. That's why we have come to the conclusions we have.

Cw112 · 06/10/2022 13:12

There are certain things I really admire about her- I think she's a complete badass for overcoming all the hardships she's been through with a small child as a single mum to get to where she's at now and I love HP, it's a brilliant series and a huge accomplishment for any writer and I love how much she's done for charity so you're not bu to think she's awesome for that but I was disappointed in her comments regarding trans people. I think it's interesting you talk about her safeguarding children through these views when they are directly harmful to trans children especially and to the children of trans parents and their needs should be considered equally to any other child. But as I say you can admire certain things about people without having to think they're a complete Saint and there are certain things about her that are certainly very inspiring.

CorvusPurpureus · 06/10/2022 13:13

We don't know @figtrees arguments; they go to a different school Grin.

Agree OP, JKR is bloody awesome.

The second. Chuck Feeney did it first, as cool as JKR has turned out to be, has given away both more money and a higher percentage of his wealth. And he tried to do it all in secret.

YANBU. She is the living person I most admire in the world, and I'm not easily star-struck.

Only came in to the thread to post that, so haven't read all of it, but "you want to weaponise your ignorance in order to make me explain myself" is pure gold. I'm using that myself in every possible context. 😄

CrossStichQueen · 06/10/2022 13:14

but I was disappointed in her comments regarding trans people

Which comments?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 06/10/2022 13:15

She's fearless. And proven to be right. As everything's being dragged out into the open, everything women said would happen, has been happening - especially in relation to harming children.

She speaks the truth.

TheKeatingFive · 06/10/2022 13:15

I think it's interesting you talk about her safeguarding children through these views when they are directly harmful to trans children especially

Okay two questions on this ...

What has she said that's harmful to trans children?

How do you rate the safeguarding abilities of organisations expressly catering to trans children, like Mermaids? Are they doing a better job in your eyes?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 06/10/2022 13:15

I think it's interesting you talk about her safeguarding children through these views when they are directly harmful to trans children especially and to the children of trans parents and their needs should be considered equally to any other child

Can you explain how please?

SelfPortraitWithFoxInSmokingJacket · 06/10/2022 13:16

We did listen to them. That's why we have come to the conclusions we have.

Quite. It's dangerous to tell women to educate themselves.

Stars71 · 06/10/2022 13:19

SunscreenCentral · 06/10/2022 10:30

In my neck of the woods, she is considered to be a dreadful person with regard to her loudly proclaimed views on gender and identity.

Where's your neck of the woods...redneck land?

@Cw112 but I was disappointed in her comments regarding trans people.

She said trans people deserve rights and protections. What is wrong with that? Have you even read what she said about trans people? Because it doesn't sound like you have.

Igmum · 06/10/2022 13:20

Can't vote because I'm on the app but ❤️❤️❤️JKR

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 06/10/2022 13:21

figtrees · 06/10/2022 12:48

Oh please it's just more laziness. If you actually wanted to educate yourselves you would.

Instead you want to use weaponised ignorance to try and make me explain myself. The arguments already exist and I do not owe you an explanation. Nobody owns you anything....

But you can find out if you bothered to look. You're just either too stupid, too lazy, or actually don't really want to hear it you just want to defend your ideologies with a wall of ignorance.

Meaning you've witnessed the vociferous chanting of 'burn the witch!' on SM but haven't actually read a word of Rowling's essay.

Righty ho.

Interesting the way people double down when asked exactly what it is JKR has said that is evil, or whether the hatred spews at her is in any way justified by what she said in the first place (but what is that? Her detractors rarely seem to know).

Unsurprising. 280 characters per tweet isn't conducive to a nuanced argument.
