AIBU to think Mumsnet should allow women ( & men ) who were right about lack of safeguarding in certain places back on this site? ( if they wish to return) ?

And for another eleven years he’s been roaming free. The charity have cut him loose now, why on earth didn’t they find out sooner. What due diligence do they have in place for trustees?

Let's assume that is truly and only what that group and ever member of it is about. The best possible assumption.

Then ask yourself whether it's appropriate for a person to a) have an association with that group and b) have a fiduciary responsibility for a major children's charity.

The answer is clearly no, because of a potential convict conflict of interest and (i would have thought) the potential to bring the children's charity into disrepute. It's probable that the people who matter knew about this and decided it didn't matter.

I think all (on the side of children’s best interests) would benefit from her, and the others who were cut off, return - but given what they went through, I highly doubt they would return.

I learned so much from various posters having already very felt uncomfortable for a long time about certain issues. My eyes were well and truly opened.

These women are amazing. I wish they were in charge of our country.

The news was saying Mermaids is being looked into for things such as sending chest binders to children without their parent's knowledge.

How many organisations have peadophiles on their boards.

This man was found out to have spoken at a conference over 10 years ago which sees peadophillia as a MH issue.

Although the conference doesn’t sit right for me. The group mermaids found out and took immediate action.

I can’t see how having this one member is proof that mermaids are not safeguarding the children.

On one of the links it also says about how children were discussing going on to a less secure site so they could talk about taking drugs/hormones - again this is not mermaids doing.

I do think these groups need to be strictly monitored.
But having someone speak at a peado conference and removing them immediately - does not mean that the group supports peados (it’s actually the opposite).

I don’t think anyone should be banned on here indefinitely but if someone is saying that certain groups are all peados with absolutely no evidence, then I can see why they were.

Absolutely. And these topics shouldn’t have to be hidden away in FWR. Safeguarding is far too important to be buried and more discussion should happen in AIBU/Chat

Nobody has ever said that, so put your straw man away.

Any group that is beyond criticism (and any criticism of any supporters of trans ideology tends to be met with an onslaught of accusations of transphobia and cancellation) will attract predatory men. Predatory men will exploit any loophole.

Create a situation where it becomes acceptable for men to be in spaces where women and children are vulnerable (which is what allowing men to claim they are women does) and predatory men will abuse it.

And, of course, there is evidence to suggest that even men who genuinely believe they “feel like a woman” retain a male pattern of criminal offending.

So among the group “men who claim they are women” there will likely be a normal number of predators, plus the additional predators who joined in because they saw the loopholes and used them.

This man not only spoke at a conference but published papers comparing sex with a child to sex with a shoe. It was not just one conference. It was many papers, conferences and panels. A simple google search revealed this. If mermaids cannot even do so much before employing someone to work with “the most vulnerable and margin used children”, what else are they missing. Either they knew and didn’t care, or could not be bothered even to do the most basic checks. This is a charity dealing with mentally I’ll children and they are allowing someone with a pro pedophile agenda onto their board. If the press had not found out. Would he have resigned?

I know next to nothing about all this.
