Return of women who were right about safeguarding

AIBU to think Mumsnet should allow women ( & men ) who were right about lack of safeguarding in certain places back on this site? ( if they wish to return) ?

OP posts:

Am I bring thick? I know about the Mermaids scandal but who got kicked off MN because of it?

ThereIbledit · 04/10/2022 23:49

Holy cow. thanks for the updates to those who provided them.

They got kicked off maybe a couple of years ago, not because of the latest Mermaids scandal. If you're new, FWR used to be very different.

HatThatWearsYou · 04/10/2022 23:55

It would be nice to think that those who were wrong about this, who told all the women trying to point out safeguarding concerns to shut up in various ways, might take a moment to really think about how they let it get this far. It would be nice to think some apologies would be due at the very least.

I doubt either of those things will happen.

I'm really grateful for the MN women who talked as openly as they were able within the constraints of this site, it opened my eyes to what could go wrong... and it has gone so so wrong.

LadyHester · 04/10/2022 23:56

What does FWR stand for?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 04/10/2022 23:57

Yes definitely.

The cancel culture is ridiculous.

prunesandporridge · 05/10/2022 00:00

It still isn't really safe to be outspoken about this. Basically there is a very murky side to a certain very popular ideology. There are many very knowledgeable women, experts in the field of safeguarding and child protection, psychologists, social workers and HCPs who have been raising the alarm about the systematic and institutional undermining of safeguarding for the last few years. They have been deleted and banned.
Everything they warned about has come to pass and many children and vulnerable women have been harmed. Finally the information is coming out and being reported in MSM.
I have tried to choose words carefully, which I know is annoying for people who are not up to speed, but it is necessary in order to not get deleted/banned.
You are not BU OP.

YarnosaurusRegina · 05/10/2022 00:05

The problem with having Lang back is that it means having the weetabix banana horror back, and I'm really not sure she's worth it...

But, otherwise, yes, most of the banned FWR posters were unjustly banned IMHO. This is supposed to be a 'nest of vipers' after all.

BrrrGettingColder · 05/10/2022 00:07

A trustee of a certain "children's rights charity" has turned out to be somewhat adjacent and encouraging to paedophilia, and now this man has had to resign because people outside that "children's rights charity" spotted this, became concerned, and wrote about it.

BBC report on it:

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/10/2022 00:08

YANBU. It would right a wrong.

prunesandporridge · 05/10/2022 00:09

Just waiting to see if this gets moved to the naughty corner. Or hidden till the morning. Sad

EmeraldShamrock1 · 05/10/2022 00:09

BaronessBomburst. 😱fuck.

RewildingAmbridge · 05/10/2022 00:13

They should never have been banned in the first place. If this isn't a safe space for women to discuss the erosion of our rights, our safety and that of our children, where the fuck is?!
I am glad to see the media tide turning.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/10/2022 00:15

What does FWR stand for?

Feminism: women's rights

The main feminism board on MN. It's been renamed Feminism: Sex and Gender

DuckBilledFattypus · 05/10/2022 00:17

Yes.

BrrrGettingColder · 05/10/2022 00:18

The problem is, a few women posters on Mumsnet who, some years ago predicted that this would happen (i.e. predatory men getting freely involved in children's charities due to lax or non-existent safeguarding of children) got banned, because..... Being Unkind To Certain Men ???? Failure to #BeKind??

But it has come to pass.

Sparklybutold · 05/10/2022 00:22

I've just had a quick look at the B4u-act, from what I can gather it isn't supporting paedophiles in terms of acting as a place for paedophiles to get there kicks but a place for them to get help? Am I missing something?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 05/10/2022 00:22

^Feminism: women's rights^

^The main feminism board on MN. It's been renamed Feminism: Sex and Gender.^

Hasn't everything been renamed.

The word's "woman/women" are being erased from society.

prunesandporridge · 05/10/2022 00:23

"The main feminism board on MN. It's been renamed Feminism: Sex and Gender"
Because a very vocal group of people wanted to, if not silence the women trying to warn about what was happening, to at least get them all corralled into a separate board, semi silenced. It became very difficult to raise any concerns anywhere else on the whole of the rest of the site.

BrrrGettingColder · 05/10/2022 00:32

Yes, you are missing something. The paedophile adjacent man has actually resigned - from this "children's charity" that had welcomed this paedophile adjacent man as an actual trustee.

It is documented here on Mumsnet; make yourself a cuppa and settle down for an interesting and enlightening read:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4644323-mermaids-being-investigated-by-the-charity-commission

LemonSwan · 05/10/2022 01:05

Oh no langcleg was a legend! When did that happen?!

Don’t panic OP, am sure they are here or will return shortly; under a different name no doubt which will be sad. Seeing the old posters names is a bit hygge; like a fluffy blanket and a set of nice candles. Something cosy and familiar about it.

BrrrGettingColder · 05/10/2022 01:08

If you're interested in how a paephophile adjacent man got to to be a trustee of a "children's charity" then maybe this thread is worth a read too:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4647654-carolyn-farrow-taken-to-police-station?page=1

Regarding how one of our publicly-funded police forces has been used as a private attack dog on a woman, by a man we cannot mention, whose feelings got hurt by online posts by some other person entirely, but that doesn't stop him from harassing this woman yet again and getting the police to harass this woman yet again.

I mean, this is the police. They could have spent that time investigating a physical assault or a burglary. But no. The police chose to act on information provided by the known vexatious man with a grudge, and the police said, "Yep!" and went ahead and arrested a woman for allegedly saying nasty things online, even thought she had not.

BrrrGettingColder · 05/10/2022 01:15

Of course, all the online rape and death threats to women...Women put in complaints.. Any police forces, interested at all? No. None.

LemonSwan · 05/10/2022 01:24

Oh so it’s all related? The plot has thickened.

I did only pop on here to see what the gossip was as dailymail have an article atm about a Surrey mum who’s married to a priest who was arrested during Sunday lunch for making malicious posts on kiwi farms and it all sounded so insane I had to see what was going on.

So are you saying it’s: pedo group - man - mermaids - man resigned - malicious reports to police - throw Kiki farms in for good measure - Surrey mum arrested and here we are?

She was wrong about the weetabix but right about everything else.

I still shudder when think about what she claims to do to poor, innocent weetabix!

But she’s worth it!
