Anyone else miss smoking??

I gave up a good few years ago. When I was a smoker I used to love it, yet spent the entire time wishing I could quit, repeatedly trying and failing.

I don't miss smelling like an ashtray or the expense, yet just recently I'm craving a glass of wine and a ciggie. Are we doomed as ex smokers to always have these feelings?

I used to love smoking and was bloody good at it. After giving up I used to have the occasional puff on someone's but the last puff gave me a horrific migraine and put me off them for life.

I used to love having a smoke on the beach when on holiday.

Was bloody good at it 🤣 made me laugh

Just over two years for me, replaced with vape. I do miss it, but know that I only need one to go back to 20 a day.

UrsulaPandress · 01/10/2022 20:42

I loved smoking.

I was a serial giver upper. Last time was 15 years ago. I always said I’d start again at 70.

Only another 7 years …

autienotnaughty · 01/10/2022 20:46

14 years in jan and I still occasionally miss it, usually after a nice meal. I would never have one tho. I've made that mistake before.

I'm considering this as well. 9 years to go 🤣🤣

ChelseaRobertsofMalibu · 01/10/2022 20:50

Yes! I'm 18 months in, rarely touch my crappy disposable vape and could pick up a cigarette at any moment if I was given one.
Honestly, if they still sold packs of ten, I'd be a smoker again. However I cannot justify spending the best part of £20 on a pack of 20. Nope 👎

15 years is impressive! Don't go back.

Has anyone else used an app which shows how much money they've saved since quitting? I'm just over 8 years in and the saving is £27k, that was based on the old price. Madness.

ChelseaRobertsofMalibu · 01/10/2022 20:53

I find it hardest whenever I have a drink, although I don't have any friends so I don't drink very often at all! Baileys at Christmas and maybe half a shandy in the summer

I stopped 2 years ago. My OH has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and I'm fighting with my self not to start smoking again!

So so sorry FlowersGin

Here's a virtual one 🚬

Discwriter · 01/10/2022 20:54

Oh lord yes. I stopped about 7 years ago and can't stand the smell and taste now. But I loved it. That first smoke with a coffee. Sitting outside in a beer garden somewhere the early hours.

UrsulaPandress · 01/10/2022 20:54

Does anyone remember getting fags out of a machine and having the change sellotaped to the pack.

Then getting 19 in a pack when the price changed.

TooHotToTangoToo · 01/10/2022 20:55

Yep I still miss it and it's been 22 years since I last had a cigarette. If I smell fresh cigarette smoke I could still easily go back to it.

That said I nearly fell over when someone bought a packet of fags in the supermarket and it cost £13 Shock

Nottodaty · 01/10/2022 20:57

I miss it.

The sneaky one with a cup
of tea , hiding at the bottom of the garden at the end of the day kids asleep.

Hate the smell hate the habit - but I miss it.

TooHotToTangoToo · 01/10/2022 20:58

Oh god yes! The first cigarette with a cuppa in the morning

The one after a meal, and the one when you've had a few drinks

Whiskeypowers · 01/10/2022 21:00

It’s almost six years since I smoked a cigarette but now and again normally Saturday evenings involving anxiety thanks to my ex and gin when for a fleeting moment I would love to stand outside the back door and smoke just one cigarette.

that’s why I never have any in the house as it would doubtless be a slippery slope

Poetnojo · 01/10/2022 21:01

Off them 20 years next month and I still crave them occasionally although I hate the smell of smoke now.

Bumblefuzz · 01/10/2022 21:03

I often really want one if I've had a drink. The reality though, is that even the smell of cigarette smoke makes me feel sick these days.

SunnySusan83 · 01/10/2022 21:07

I gave up 4-5 years ago but it will always stay with me. I don't crave it now and I'm thankful as spent 5 years trying to quit. I bloody loved my fags though and wish it was healthy, cheap and socially acceptable! However none of those things apply so I try not to dwell ☹️

Arnaquer · 01/10/2022 22:39

I gave up 25 years ago and miss it. I'm going to start again when I'm 60

I miss holiday smokes, buying foreign fags from a vending machine in soft packets

willstarttomorrow · 01/10/2022 22:56

With a drink definitely. I am old enough to remember being able to smoke inside pubs/clubs etc. I never really smoked at home but when out for a drink in the pub and union when a student between lectures. I totally agree that smoking is now banned indoors but it was such a part of my late teens and early 20s- a happy time. Still occasionally have a Marlborough light with a drink (outside). I am not proud of that and would hate my DC to smoke but just such different times. I work in Child Protection and have to tell 13 year olds they cannot vape in my car. I am so old I remember working with older siblings of the vapers who all smoked from about aged 13.

Saucery · 01/10/2022 22:59

I remember Umbria not doing Silk Cut. Go in shop - Point - garble basic Italian - get Marlboro Grin
have never coughed more than after that holiday.

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 01/10/2022 23:02

I quit nearly 20 years ago and still occasionally fancy one. In fact I do very occasionally indulge, on the rare occasions I get very drunk. So once a year, maybe?

HangingOver · 01/10/2022 23:09

I wish it wasn't bad for you. I mostly miss it on holidays in Europe sitting outside cafés in the sun!

Foronenightonly01 · 01/10/2022 23:30

Gave up 17 years ago - don’t think about it too much these days but very definitely do miss it! I LOVED having a fag😂…smoked between 10-40 a day, always felt ‘free’ with a cig in my hand (though now wonder if that was just youth😆)…. Dh refused to try for kids till I stopped which was my incentive but Christ, I it was HARD. Used to be a Marlboro lights girl, or if I’d been through duty free Vogues (long thin ones)🤤
