What does the average Mumsnetter look like?

I’ve been on Mumsnet for a long time (under lots of different names) and yet I still really struggle to picture what the average MNetter looks like.

I read threads about things like how most only wear tinted moisturiser and Boden clothes, and because I’m so far removed from that, I can’t picture it.

AIBU to ask you to describe the ‘stereotypical’ MNetter for me? Bonus points for celebrity/stock images for reference.

I don’t know who/what Biden is, and cba Googling 🤷‍♀️

DelphiniumBlue · 01/10/2022 14:21

I picture the average one as slightly goth-y make-up wise, probably with black rimmed specs, often in PJ bottoms and a hoody after work, and a slightly messy house. Maybe mid 30s.
I have a slightly messy house, but am not gothlike, although I do wear a lot of black, and am much older than mid 30s. I have mostly silver hair, average height, too fat, and a smiley face. I read a lot ( partly work-connected) and love my sofa!

Hahahaha I am all of these things apart from the mid 30s bit, and my glasses are dark purple.

I imagine HQ all have boden stripey top uniforms which they pair with their seasalt waterproofs and wellies for walking their cockapoos.

Night watch all wear dressing gowns or oversized hoodies from a company they worked for 5 years ago.

Pregnancy boards all full of women wearing stripey body con dresses because that's all you can buy in maternity sections.

Every one on AIBU is either a viper so very smooth, no clothes, lives in a pile of wood or a troll so hairy, dirty clothes, lives under a bridge.

DelphiniumBlue · 01/10/2022 14:25

Forgot to add, I do have tall DC, and have clothes from Hush, Boden, Seasalt etc in my wardrobe, although on the whole I think those brands are not edgy enough. However it would be quicker to list those shops from which I have not purchased than those from which I have.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/10/2022 14:31

I imagine something like Emma Thompson or Susannah Constantine and the other woman who did that show with her.

5128gap · 01/10/2022 14:35

In my 50s but look 20 years younger. Often mistaken for my DDs daughter and my DSs much younger wife.
Fine hair but LOADS of it.
Midi dress and trainers. Oversized blazer. Discreet gold jewelry. Jump suit. Cross body bag. 'Think' Understated French chic.
I have a mouth like an s on its side, my eyes are permanently rolled to the ceiling when I'm not quizzically rausing one eyebrow, and I have a tinkly laugh.

user16480478 · 01/10/2022 14:43

I've got a tall child and wear Seasalt but I'm over 60 so probably not average

Mercurial123 · 01/10/2022 14:52

Agree a large % think they look 20 years than their actual age. They probably need an eye test.

Kumri · 01/10/2022 14:52

Pyjamas.

We like pyjamas.

Pyjamas rock.

TheDogsMother · 01/10/2022 14:53

I own no Boden or Seasalt, am shorter than average and have no children (tall or otherwise).

MaverickSnoopy · 01/10/2022 14:55

I mostly wear Joules and have the yellow coat. I tend not to wear make up during the week but do at the weekend. When I come home I'm straight into pyjamas. I even cook in my pyjamas.

Badger1970 · 01/10/2022 15:06

I'm not your average MN user.

No sets of twins and at least 4 other DC with SEN.
Certainly not tall and willowy; I'm the human equivalent of a welsh cob.
I'm not Covid hysterical.
I've got family close by.
I accept help when offered.
I know when I'm being very unreasonable.
I love my dogs and don't want to rehome them.

Bundlebungle · 01/10/2022 15:10

Haha. I always imagine Una Stubbs as Aunt Sally.

I am 5 ft 4, with a teeny tiny figure, (size 2,) and blonde and blue eyed, with cracking tits. I also love massive salads, I went to a Russell Group Uni, my DH is on £250K a year, I'm on £175K a year (part time 3 days,) DD went to private school and Cambridge University, and earns about £300K a year, and our house is worth about £1.5million.

Oh and I am 50-ish but often mistaken for 19 years old. It's sooooooo annoying.

HTH.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 01/10/2022 15:12

Oh this is me by the way.........

FluffySocksAndHotChocolate · 01/10/2022 15:15

I imagine most of us are the type of mums who wear PJs to the local shop and just don't want to admit it - not me though. Grin

WaddleAway · 01/10/2022 15:16

Well I’m gorgeous, I don’t know about the rest of you.
Seriously I don’t think there is a ‘typical’ Mumsnetter, appearance wise. All women look different 🤷🏻‍♀️. Why would Mumsnetters be a homogenous group?

BestIsWest · 01/10/2022 15:16

I also have a tall child, wear Seasalt and am almost 60 so there are at least two of us.

FluffySocksAndHotChocolate · 01/10/2022 15:16

@Blocked how accurate!! 😂

Are your children very tall and athletic? Do they adore vegetables?

lightisnotwhite · 01/10/2022 15:16

Yes I agree Motherland probably covers most of the people that ping into my head. I don’t think actual posh people use MN much because they are always busy.

Except for the Scots contingent. I always imagine them as angry, fierce and short mostly based on my very lovely work colleague.

nannybeach · 01/10/2022 15:18

Have been told I look like Helen leaders. Don't wear fancy clothes (dogs, gardening) don't live in a big posh house, never earned a lot of money. Drive a 15 year old astra Estate. Always wear makeup when I go shopping or for coffee,Bob, natural blonde, white at the front. Paint my own fingers and toe nails. Don't have a passport. Do my own decoration and DH does the DIY
