To think the way she dressed was a little inappropriate

I want to start by saying I am a bit of a closet fan of the Beckhams and I also want to point out I have a 13 year old daughter. I have just seen pics of the Beckhams at some fashion show and as always, they all look fab. However, I am a wee bit disappointed in what Harper is wearing. It’s a beautiful dress and she looks gorgeous in it but for me, it just looks a little too old for someone of her age (11? 12?). Am I being a bit of a pearl clutcher here or would people tend to agree?

They all look ridiculous, I thought Harper looked like she'd tried on mums nightdress, as for VB that green dress and red shoe / boot thing was totally, shockingly bad 🤣

Hm2020 · 01/10/2022 12:16

I couldn’t get worked up about it not that bad

Image for those who are hard of Google

Well aren't you a delight?

If you're talking about an image, its only fair to share it

SwapPlaces · 01/10/2022 12:17

The trainers and plaits rescue the look a little for me too but the dress is an odd choice for a child.

Harper is all over social media, the scrutiny as she goes into her teen tear will be intense. She even has her own hashtag. She needs to be protected. Her parents, of all people, should know that

So she needs to dress in a " protective way" ?. Yes she needs protection from the public eye. She shouldn't be photographed, she should not have social media pages etc but the dress isn't the problem. To insinuate that she needs to be dressed to protect herself is plain and simple victim blaming.

the media are photographing her.
We are all commenting on her body here/dress sense here.

If we can't not do this then we should protect her from us and not watch TV or look at photos in the news. Its not her who should change anything about herself.

That's what I mean. She shouldn't be photographed for the media. She's too young to understand whats happening. Many celebs manage to keep their children private.

My dd is a bit older and I don't even put a photo of her on my fb page (to 59 friends) without her permission. She likes to check that she's happy with the photos first.

Atmywitsend29 · 01/10/2022 12:20

Don't sexualise childrens bodies. Problem solved.

Bbq1 · 01/10/2022 12:23

Poor Harper. She quite often looks uncomfortable in her clothes, they often look ill fitting. Probably because they're actually clothes made to fit an adult form. Her parents use her for publicity as they do all her kids.

So we are agreed ? Its not an outfit problem..its not even a going out with famous parents problem.

Its us. The public. The press etc

Yet what are we discussing?.an 11 years olds dress 🙄

HappyPeach · 01/10/2022 12:25

I don't see the issue. She's covered up with a tiny bit of midrif showing that you'd see in a bikini anyway. Nothing remotely sexual about it.

Dirtylittleroses · 01/10/2022 12:25

I’m not sure to be fair. It she was out with her mates and they were buying her clothes like that, then yeah, that would be inappropriate. But she was at her mums fashion show. With all her family and it’s very different. She may even have helped design the dress herself

harper is usually kept very young so I think this is just a game of dress up and that’s ok.

Bbq1 · 01/10/2022 12:26

Hate the way the media have been calling her a 'fashionista' since she was about 3. I imagine all her outfits then and now were and are chosen by her parents

babyyodaxmas · 01/10/2022 12:26

11 is a tricky age. Too old for "little girl" styles, too young for full on glam. I remember being 11 and having breast buds being forced into little girl dresses and the whole thing just making me more self-conscious. I simply hope Harper felt comfortable and confident in what she was wearing.

Melodiax · 01/10/2022 12:35

I don't think the dress was particularly sexual, everything was covered, no? Would you think it wrong for an 11 year old to wear a bikini if they wanted to? I think at her age this is fine. Why would it be ok for her to wear shorts and have her legs out but this dress isn't ok??? The rules for what is deemed "sexual" do seem a bit arbitrary.

Melodiax · 01/10/2022 12:38

I'm surprised by the posters saying they don't like black on young girls? Why not? Black was one of my faves as a kid.

My daughter is 6 and she would choose black over sequins and bright orange any day

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/10/2022 12:41

Ha mel MN hates bikinis . Never mind that they 2 piece is easier for toileting and a 1 piece covers the same area , the same people who think.pre pubescent children should all run around with no top at the pool.or beach as there's " nothing there " also object to any skin showing its bizarre.

Florenz · 01/10/2022 12:48

So sick of the Beckhams. Their kids need to live their own lives instead of relying on the celebrity of their parents.

XSnoe · 01/10/2022 12:50

I actually think navy or midnight blue would look more appropriate

Why? What's wrong with the colour black on children? Are we sexualising colours now too!?

Chooksnroses · 01/10/2022 12:53

Completely inappropriate.

ChangedNameAgain99 · 01/10/2022 11:19

Slightly more concerned about how skinny that poor model is next to her.

The models don't look 'too' skinny to me, but then with so much of our population overweight, we have lost sense of what is too big or too skinny.

Justgorgeous · 01/10/2022 13:06

David looked good. The rest of them I thought looked awful. Victoria looked nice in the black dress she wore for her show, the green dress I thought was really dreadful.

KimberleyClark · 01/10/2022 13:15

Would you think it wrong for an 11 year old to wear a bikini if they wanted to? I think at her age this is fine.

Depends on the type of bikini. Postage stamp size string bikini no. One with deep pants and and a crop type top yes.

WiddlinDiddlin · 01/10/2022 13:25

I was ready for it to be horrific but tbh... meh, it doesn't fit because she's nothing to put in it yet and the lace looks just... hairy chest-ish, bit scruffy.

The pigtails and lack of visble make up make her look as she is, a child.

Arguably, theres more flesh on view in this outfit (Shein, sold for 7 to 12 range), it's just horizontal not vertical.

VB's clothing always looks awful, I don't get the 'stick insect in a bag' look that she really seems to go for (I've no problem with anyones size, tall and/or very slim can look extremely elegant indeed! It's the '...in a shapeless sack' bit that looks 'not elegant'...and just off to me..).

To think the way she dressed was a little inappropriate
eyeteevee · 01/10/2022 13:35

Posters suggesting others are sexualising the outfit as if that hadn't been done many many years ago when it comes to women's clothing.

Also, saying it's better than a crop top? As of there are no other options.

Slightly more concerned about how skinny that poor model is next to her.

As someone who was naturally a size 0/2 when a similar age to Bella and endured ridiculous comments and abuse from others, do shut up.

body shaming is still body shaming just because someone is on the thinner side @ChangedNameAgain99. You wouldn’t say ‘slightly concerned about how fat that size X person is next to her’ so don’t think you can’t do it just because she is smaller instead.

FacebookPhotos · 01/10/2022 13:36

Definitely “little girl playing dress up” vibes imo. Not inappropriate as such, but clearly designed with a woman’s body in mind, rather than a little girl’s.
