To ask if you've had the heating on yet?

I had mine on for an hour yesterday to "test it out", as we'd just moved in the summer, not used it yet and had the boiler serviced. Even that made me feel a bit guilty, but it felt good as yesterday was a chilly one! I've never really felt that guilty about having the heating on, at least not before this year's price shit show.

I know hardcore MN will be holding out until November...

YABU No, I've not switched my heating on
YANBU Yep, I've embraced the toasty money pit!

Yep. We’re in Scotland and it’s been like November the past couple days. not freezing but wet and miserable

35965a · 29/09/2022 07:50

Not yet. My husband and children don’t feel the cold as much as me so I’ll be in slippers and a couple of jumpers for as long as possible. Definitely don’t be hardcore enough to keep it off til November but I’ll see how it goes!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 29/09/2022 07:50

Nope. Thermostat on 12, it was 14.5 this morning. Bit chilly getting out of bed but fine with a few layers on. I don’t feel the cold like some thankfully.

Discodreams · 29/09/2022 07:51

We had air conditioning units fitted 18months ago that also have a heat function. I’ve put that on for 20minutes this morning because our living room was freezing. But trying not to put the gas central heating on until we absolutely have to and even when we do it will only be at the very minimum 16 degrees. And then we will just use the electric air con to give a host of heat as and when we need it

WouldUShouldI · 29/09/2022 07:51

I have, I have started to put the heating on for an hour in the mornings because the house, especially downstairs is very cold. I haven't used it in the evenings yet I'll use a blanket instead.

bellabasset · 29/09/2022 07:52

My sitting room is 19° without heating so I haven't yet but may put it on before I shower

ChillysWaterBottle · 29/09/2022 07:53

Put it on the first time yesterday as baby's gro egg went blue!

Pinksalty · 29/09/2022 07:54

Yes - Scotland too. Been on for at least a week.

Mamaof2males · 29/09/2022 07:55

Yes - had for an hour last night and from 5:50am
when my husband gets up this morning so we are warm whilst getting dressed and uniforms on etc. I’m still WFH but do not have it on during day, It has started getting nippy and we have head colds so can’t sit there freezing. I use a blanket and hot water bottle in the day.

Ooooh. Mine is reading 17 and I'm feeling it! But I'm a wimpy Southener so that's to be expected...

Nope _yesterday evening nearly pushed me to my limit but I’m trying to stay strong.

AuntieMarys · 29/09/2022 07:57

No. Been off since April 1st.
Dh gets up at 5 and says its not particularly chilly ( in the north)
I have throws, electric throw ( not used yet) and rarely sit down in the day if I'm in.
Forecast is mild all next week so hopefully will keep it off for a couple of weeks.

VestaTilley · 29/09/2022 07:58

No, holding off as long as we can. Our energy bill was £176 this month and that’s with out having heating on since April.

I did put a thermal vest on DS under his pyjamas though. We’ll take measures such as putting up curtains over the front door etc before putting the heating on, though we’re fortunate as we’re in a modern mid terrace.

MarinoRoyale · 29/09/2022 08:00

Not yet, have started wearing warmer pyjamas, added a blanket layer to my bedding and got a fleece throw for sitting on the sofa. Oh and wearing slippers to keep my feet warmer on the cold floors. Holding out as long as I can!

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/09/2022 08:00

Yes. I live in Scotland and it's cold.

lobsterkiller · 29/09/2022 08:01

No not yet and I feel the cold more than most. Don't get me wrong I am cold, but I've got alternative heat sources so I'm making use of those until it becomes unbearable.

EllaPaella · 29/09/2022 08:01

Not yet. It is chilly in the mornings and evenings but warm jumpers and heat holderz are keeping me warm enough. It's 15.8 on my thermostat at the moment. I feel quite comfortable with just an extra layer and the kids haven't said they felt cold yet.

urrrgh46 · 29/09/2022 08:02

Nope. New build house and it's 20.5 in my bedroom with the window having been open (not fully - about 3 inches) all night. Last year we never needed the heating in more an hour or 2 except on a couple of really cold days when it was on for a few hrs. We live in Essex so it's pretty warm.

Merryoldgoat · 29/09/2022 08:03

Yes and I’ll be using it as normal this year. I detest the cold and y boys and I all have a propensity to chest infections.

We are fortunate we can absorb the additional cost.

Woolandwonder · 29/09/2022 08:03

No but have been using heated throw for last couple of weeks -our living room is particularly cold and put the electric heater on for an hour last night.

user1498572889 · 29/09/2022 08:04

Mine came on during the night. First time. It must have dropped below 16.

skedaddler · 29/09/2022 08:09

My thermostat is on 18 and it came on yesterday so I turned it down to 17! I have brought a ton of wood inside so will start using the log burner soon to stave off needing the heating. I've got an electric throw and dd has an Oodie so we're prepped!

PolkaDotMankini · 29/09/2022 08:09

Not yet. DS has taken the major step of wearing a pyjama top though.

twistyizzy · 29/09/2022 08:15

Nope and won't be putting it on until end October at the earliest. It really isn't cold enough at the moment and we are in NE England. A throw at night and dressing gown/onesies before bed .

Lullabies2Paralyze · 29/09/2022 08:17

I wanted to wait until clocks went back but it’s been so wet and cold I had to put it on as I have a baby and as much as I wrap him up, I needed to take the damp chill out the rooms.
may turn it off again if it dries up as I can cope more with coldness but not the dampness.
