To ask if you've had the heating on yet?

I had mine on for an hour yesterday to "test it out", as we'd just moved in the summer, not used it yet and had the boiler serviced. Even that made me feel a bit guilty, but it felt good as yesterday was a chilly one! I've never really felt that guilty about having the heating on, at least not before this year's price shit show.

I know hardcore MN will be holding out until November...

YABU No, I've not switched my heating on
YANBU Yep, I've embraced the toasty money pit!

I have had. I have decided we are not going to freeze to death. It is set at 19 degrees during the day like last year.

ColonelCarter · 29/09/2022 12:28

No. I'm sat here with my knock-off oodie on under a blanket. I'm freezing but determined to save money!

riotlady · 29/09/2022 12:33

I put it on for an hour when DD had her bath last night as the one before she was shivering when she came out bless her! Other than that we’ve been ok in jumpers abs fluffy socks

FourChimneys · 29/09/2022 12:43

No heating here. We are hsrdy outdoor types and have loads of thermals, jumpers etc. We will put it on later in the year to avoid damp but will also air the house thoroughly on mild days.

Flangelasashes · 29/09/2022 12:49

An hour this morning and will put on for an hour this evening. I point blank refuse to be freezing in my own house.

Verytirednow · 29/09/2022 08:55

Yes . Heating on for an hour about 7pm .
What plans do people have about getting washing dried if heating not on ?
is tumble dryer cheaper?

We have a dehumidifier in the spare room - where clothes dry on airers - it does help

Shinyhappyperson22 · 29/09/2022 12:52

No. I would in the past out it on for an hour to help dry washing or to take the chill but no we are going to need it when it’s really cold. House was 16 degrees gone up to 17.5. I’m under the blanket with thin layers on, I’m fine. Fingers are warm.

House has a chill but it’s ok I think I have gotten used to cooler temps as the house is pretty cool. I’d rather save the money for when it’s a lot colder tbh.

mamabear715 · 29/09/2022 12:57

Just been to see what the temp is in here - 19.8, 1pm.
House built in 2006 (definitely helps) neighbours both sides (helps even more) So no, no heating yet, window open a little for airflow.
Moved from an old cottage where I told the kids every winter that I would die. I'd never been so cold in my LIFE. Am in the North, btw.

paintyhands · 29/09/2022 13:01

Not yet - we’re in the Highlands and holding off as long as we can! 19 degrees indoors at the moment so it’s fine.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 29/09/2022 13:04

Not yet. 17 degrees inside, am running a low energy dehumidifier next to the clothes airer to try and get a load dry - it seems to kick out a bit of heat too so am working in the same room with thick jumper / thermal layer / sheepskin boots on

PeloFondo · 29/09/2022 13:04

just put it on. It says 19c but the thermostat is where it's warmer. I'm sat still all day WFH and can't move about, and I'm cold!

Proudboomer · 29/09/2022 13:15

Yes but then I have my 85 year old mum to keep warm. She is in a wheelchair and not in the best of health so isn’t able to move around to get warm or put extra layers on and if she gets cold then she loses what limited mobility she has.

jelly79 · 29/09/2022 13:24

I'm gutted I put mine on by mistake last night and it stayed on all night! Smart meter has gone wild and the house is boiling and I have a headache

ErrolTheDragon · 29/09/2022 13:30

We've got the heating on at 19.5°C because DH is redecorating a room entailing a lot of crack filling, layers which each need to cure properly which simply won't happen on a reasonable timescale if it isn't warm enough. Ye canna break the laws of chemistry.

When that's done we may keep it on but set to a 'background heating' temperature.

ghostsandpumpkinsalready · 29/09/2022 13:30

Gosh yes I hate being cold.

BettyOBarley · 29/09/2022 13:34

I did a little test yesterday as we just got a smart meter so was interested to see the cost (48p for a 30 min boost it was). But no, generally not had it on yet.

SpeckofDustUponMySoul · 29/09/2022 13:40

Nope.
It will only go on for a little bit when I start to struggle with drying clothes and then only for short periods of time.
Not sure how I'm going to manage this winter with the rise in prices across the board.

RewildingAmbridge · 29/09/2022 13:47

No but Tuesday evening DH and I went up to bed at 8 to read our books with the electric blanket/mattress topper on, we're mid thirties not pensioners!
We've also had the log burner on a couple of evenings over the weekend when we had guests

AuldReekie1905 · 29/09/2022 13:59

Our bathroom humidity is very high and just won't come down so I've got the radiator on low on there and also low in DS's room before bed as I don't want him getting sick. Everywhere else not yet.

Titsflyingsouth · 29/09/2022 14:17

Our house is naturally very warm. Was hideously oppressive in June/July/August but at the moment it's quite pleasant. Probably can hang on for another couple of weeks here.

Andypandy799 · 29/09/2022 14:54

I have already reduced my use by as much as possible use half now compared to two years ago. I am not going to sit in the cold because of things out of my control. I feel sorry for those on pre payment who are knackered

mondaytosunday · 29/09/2022 15:00

No, but I have a gas fire and have put that on a few nights.
I'm holding out til October. I don't heat the bedrooms though as I like a cold room. My daughter's in the loft and the radiators aren't really enough for the space so I've got an efficient electric heater for her room if she needs it as she revises in there all weekend (A levels this year).
