Jack Monroe off Twitter

The latest in the ongoing saga is that JM has left Twitter after being 'hounded off'. The incident that seemed to provoke this...someone critiquing a photo of her mums roast potatoes. It just gets more and more bizarre.

To be clear, I don't like to see public pile ons and some of the abuse directed at Jack has been unpleasant. But a lot has also been reasonable, polite requests for information regarding her patreon which have largely been totally ignored. And her supporters have to be some of the most cruel people on Twitter. It seems like it's fine for JM to voice her opinion but as soon as others do the same they are called out for bullying. And ironically subjected to vile comments from her followers. Go figure.

Am I the only one who thinks she's probably best having a little Twitter break? But eventually if she's ever to redeem her reputation she needs to show some transparency regarding public donations.

So are we now not able to question potential fraud in case someone decides to off themselves?

Is she above constructive discussion just in case she 'does something?'

I think that providing people stick to the facts of her fictions - and they're all out there as she provides them herself - then it's absolutely fair game to discuss the ins and outs of her behaviour as it's so impactive - in a bad way - on countless others

There needs to be an education programme on the weaponisation of suicide by manipulative people and their flying monkeys.

Comments that deploy that tactic need reporting and deleting.

Andthenanothercupoftea · 19/11/2022 21:34

Jack used to enjoy protection from Mumsnet HQ, threads on her would disappear pdq a few years ago.

Doyoumind · 19/11/2022 22:03

If that table in the pictures she's posted to prove the walls are white is the same one she's just got rid of, she's even lying about that. No way it's 14 seater.

8-10 seater Cotswold company oak table 😉

I know! A sniff of not being a thread full of "JM is wonderful, and the hardest done to person EVER!!" would be zapped ASAP!!

You forget - Jack is very smol . . .

What are you all going to do if she eventually does attempt suicide?

Fein innocence? Pretend you've only told the truth?

Obviously I know 'Be Kind' means absolutely nothing on Mumsnet, that's been obvious for years , but seriously, do we really need a thread this huge persecuting one person?

It matters not how dishonest you think she is. You're all entitled to think that way. Is there really a need for such a hate campaign though?

I guess this dangerous pile on is fine with mumsnet HQ..it's only their mates like Kate McCann that get protection.

Just have a think please .

She won't, don't worry.

Has she deleted her twitter account again?

I hope someone in real life has taken control of her social media and limited her access. If it is truly making her feel suicidal she needs to get off Twitter. I personally think she is not a particularly nice person - she encourages her devoted fans to pile onto anyone who dares criticise her shady dealings and seems to think she should have a monopoly on budget cooking, but she is clearly addicted to Twitter in a very unhealthy way so if she has deleted her Twitter account for her sake I hope it’s permanently and she gets help for her mental health issues.

00100001 · 20/11/2022 08:20

Fairly sure it will be back in a few days

I hope someone has too. While I think she does need pulling up on her behaviour, and I hate the ‘stop it or I’ll kill myself’ threats, Twitter was not a good place for her to be.

Applesandcarrots · 20/11/2022 09:00

I think this was prompted by more than just DM article. People were reporting to Action Fraud, HMRC etc and by their tweets, I had a feeling something was coming. I think there may be actual investigation on and she is bricking it.

It's also a game btw to gain sympathy and detract from issue. I am sure most of us know someone who does similar. Or knew.
Fucks up by not paying people back.
Goes on drama saying how much everyone is unfair and they can't take it / do we like want them to do something etc.
Dissapears so everyone starts thinking they did something so they are bit relieved if not.
Comes back like nothing happened, never repays debts and if challenged, the cycle repeats.

It's same here. Except... It used to work. It doesn't anymore.

Yep with some anodyne post about her dog or some retro pudding to gently move things on from the meltdown.

ummmwtaf · 20/11/2022 09:33

I looked last night pre deletion. Her home shitty bungalow is absolutely gorgeous - spacious kitchen with lovely decor etc. Whole house lovely. Didn't check if lightbulbs present but it's definitely not the residence of someone who is broke.

Goawayangryman · 20/11/2022 09:55

What happened with that Awful Molly medium page? Seems to have gone.

It's Jack's own words that are under discussion...

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 20/11/2022 10:55

I hope Nigella is pure beetroot for the way she promoted and enabled the grifting.

AnonWeeMouse · 20/11/2022 11:11

The delete and vanish act is pure emotional abuser.

Read her tweets with DARVO in mind and see her as a narcissistic manipulator, it shows her in a different light than if you take it all at face value.

BordoisAgain · 20/11/2022 11:32

It's the classic abusers manipulation - how dare you point out all the shitty things I've done, it's making me feel bad.

InternetRandom · 20/11/2022 09:01

Probably a Christmas pudding made from bin scraps and raisins pilfered from kids parties, then gently steamed in the shared family bathwater?

category12 · 20/11/2022 12:29

Every time she comes back on Twitter, it turns into a binfire really quickly now.

I think she's going to have to give it up. Which would be good for her mental health to be honest.

I don't think it's good for anyone to surround themselves with an echo chamber of creeps who just say "everything you is art!" "you're such an angel" and so forth. That's what she's tried to do, and I think it's worked quite successfully for a long time, but the good will has eroded and she's made herself look really dodgy by being unable to keep her stories straight and lying about even stupid stuff like Viennetta, fgs.

Buteverythingsfine · 20/11/2022 12:47

I think one thing that might have been better is if Jack was just upfront about their changing circumstance. It doesn't seem to me odd that someone would be poor when younger and in difficult circumstances (as a single mum) but then over time, as their work increased, that they became richer, in fact, I would very much hope that would happen. So insisting you are still very very poor was a silly move as easily disproved. It would have been better to say: I know what it was like to be poor as I was for years, thank god I'm not there now, but I want to help those who are.

This is true - my work involves reflection on things that have happened but not currently; a lot of youth work involves people who have lived through addiction or trauma and now support people and improve things.
It's very possible though that as a freelancer and possibly a poor budgeter (I'm the same) she doesn't have a consistent income and does have periods of poverty.
As I said before I feel sorry for her; she seems very thin skinned and I definitely would not survive on Twitter.
