They "knew what they voted for".

All this why Brexit bullshit. It's hardly helped or helping matters is it

InTheStars · 28/09/2022 20:34

Are you really that fuck stupid???,,????

Suetwo · 28/09/2022 17:42

Exactly. If you want to see REAL social chaos and economic misery, give Corbyn and his brother a chance to run the country. After five years we'd be in economic meltdown. After ten, the UK would be a hellhole.

Corbyn and his bonkers brother are never going to be given a chance to run the country, so the point is irrelevant. But Truss and Kwarteng have already brought us pretty close to economic meltdown in three WEEKS; the thought of what they'd do in one year, let alone five, makes my blood run cold!

The Brexit topic is an echo chamber with about 5 posters who just post the same stuff over and over again - so when one of them wants to start a more lively argument they have to post on AIBU.

And the Op is one of the most prolific brexit posters ,it's bloody tedious

If they brought something new to the discussion it would help.
And the threads never become lively because anyone that voted brexit knows full well to keep out of the threads.

TheHateIsNotGood · 28/09/2022 20:39

Oh - it's you again Ken. Yes dear, it's all Brexit's fault and the 'lied to' people that voted for it and nothing else in the World has happened since the Referendum in 2016.

Do your Carers/Institution know you're out and about at the mo - shall I call someone for you?

redboxer321 · 28/09/2022 20:41

It's all Truss's fault according to my Brexit and Tory voting dear old dad who has was at his best deluded and now comes out with shit that literally makes you spit your coffee out over your keyboard.
Elizabeth would have given her far more gravitas on the world stage. Liz is fine for friends and family but not for a leader.
It's clearly not in the Tories' interests to stop crazy old people from voting but, fuck me, someone's got to.

Southwestten · 28/09/2022 20:49

That’s true, but then I suppose on AIBU there’s a chance there’ll be some posters who disagree which will give Ken and co from the Brexit topic the opportunity to insult them.

Mamamia7962 · 28/09/2022 20:53

I have relatives living in Germany. They too are facing higher food prices and rising fuel prices, plus they may have fuel rationing this winter.

Fishfingersandwich707 · 28/09/2022 20:55

What does Brexit have to do with it?

Are you kidding? It has everything to do with it! Brexit has opened the door to low tax and low regulation (workers rights, breaches of environmental and food standards) etc.

If you reject the broadly Christian, liberal, democratic values of the EU, what are you going to replace it with? It’s obvious if you reject collective cooperation then individualism is the way things are going to go.

Everyone criticised the “sluggish” EU economy but look at it another way, the EU economy is stable, not volatile like today’s uk shit show where the most vulnerable are exposed to the effects of unstable economics.

There’s no doubt about it, this is an economic gamble of the highest order. And if the UK had adopted the Euro, KK would not have been allowed to play with sterling as he is doing now, as it would have been a breach of the compliance criteria.

Th only this gamble could pay off is if we see growth; which is very unlikely given Covid, the war in Ukraine & raised fuel prices and massive gaps in the workforce!

How do we get out of a period where we spent too much and borrowed too much by borrowing more? This could provoke a run on sterling. It’s totally irresponsible.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 28/09/2022 17:36

No one thought there would be a long period of pain and adjustment? 😂

That is exactly what remainers were warning about!

A number of brexiteers also acknowledged that there would be pain and hardship but people only wanted to hear about the sunlit uplands no matter how unrealistic.

My post very clearly says (and you should know this as you quoted it) "no one thought there would not be a long period of pain and adjustment". You misquoted me by leaving out the critical word NOT.

Good day, sir: argue with yourself, but please leave me out of it.

Blimey is Germany doing well now they have hardly any heating all winter (and I would say they are colder than here).

I live in Germany. This is total tosh concocted by the British media. Our gas supply for heating is guaranteed for the winter at a bill of ca. €140 per month. The country has sufficient gas reserves to get through the entire winter with no russian pipelines in operation - even if it's colder than average. Ignore what you read in certain factions of the UK press

Tryingtokeepgoing · 28/09/2022 21:47

If it’s tosh, it’s not just the British media whipping up a storm…

www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2022-09-26/lights-out-ovens-off-europe-preps-for-winter-energy-crisis

German industry is seriously concerned about energy security this winter, at least in the sectors I work with.

worriedatthistime · 28/09/2022 21:48

Or poor opposition ? You could blame it on many many things that doesn't change anything though does it

Harva · 28/09/2022 21:49

Absolutely and a very slippery slope from then on.

‘We’ made our choices.

Ladybyrd · 28/09/2022 21:52

They were warned that the economy would turn to shit, and it has. It's just a shame we all have to pay for it.

They're also the same people who are complaining that all of the money should be going to them.

verdantverdure · 28/09/2022 21:59

PersonaNonGarter · 28/09/2022 17:03

I don’t think this is the correct analysis. Not least because Bojo (Brexit Guy) just left and Liz Truss voted Remain.

I am told that Conservative members like Truss because she was the only source of "good news" about Brexit because she kept announcing "new" trade deals when everything else about Brexit was bad news.

Foronenightonly01 · 28/09/2022 22:00

I agree that Brexit set this shit show in motion - there was a purge of any remainer ministers that resulted in many of the most experienced & capable being sidelined in favour of many buffoons. Pretty much only the mediocre & dross was left and here we are🤷🏼‍♀️. Just own the f@cking farce🙄.

jcyclops · 28/09/2022 22:09

You can blame whoever you want, but if you want to get rid of the Tories at the next election, it's people who voted for them who you need to vote Labour next time. If you abuse those people, hate them, want to punish them, then why would they vote differently to last time? You should be more forgiving and welcoming to Tories/Brexiteers and they might be open to changing their minds.

Mojoj · 28/09/2022 22:10

Well, I hope you're happy. Britain's a shitshow.

Georgeskitchen · 28/09/2022 22:30

There seems to be an awful lot of mumsnetters that don't seem to comprehend that brexit was a democratic vote. It can't be overturned. Do a little research and look into how many other countries are not happy in the EU.
You may be surprised 😮
Many migrant workers actually went home as covid hit, not because of brexit

verdantverdure · 28/09/2022 22:32

This country does seem to have been in a downward spiral since we started listening to people like Daniel Hannan.

Florenz · 28/09/2022 22:35

How long are people going to keep going on about Brexit for? It's getting to the point of being counterproductive. Not everything bad is because of Brexit. Countries around the world, both in the EU and out are having problems. Covid and the war in Ukraine are far more to blame than Brexit.

TheRubyRedshoes · 28/09/2022 22:37

@PeekabooAtTheZoo

I couldn't agree more

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/09/2022 22:39

Short memory OP let’s add a few more things:
I blame Tony Blair for not capping New EU country immigration so slowly let people mix
i blame the unions for choosing the wrong Milliband bro
i blame Corbyn voters
etc…..
