Well, I knew that already, but every day she shocks me with the heights her deluded self-confidence goes to

Liz Truss had to be convinced to issue statement amid market turmoil after mini-budget

@Livelovebehappy
The problem is there’s no alternative prospective leader we have confidence in, in any of the parties. Labour or Tory, all clowns. They’re all a shower of shit with not a clue between them. People turn to the Tories because the alternative is unthinkable. There needs to be another party out there which can offer us what we want. But there’s no-one

You don't know what you want, so vote the way the 'papers tell you too - lab haven't been in for 12 years, so how do you conclude they are all clowns? you are just spouting what the Tories tell you to spout.

Luckily though, you re in the minority and more folk are seeing Labour as a more positive alternative.

@RafaistheKingofClay Jacob Rees-Mogg?

I didn't agree with Angela Raynor calling the conservatives names , was ill thought out and very embarrassing. Not her finest moment at all and lost her respect.
However, she apologized for it and hopefully will learn, as we all do by our mistakes.
Boris Johnson, historically , has written things which are seen as very dubious too, politicians do like to shoot them selves in both feet. As the recently suspended labour MP is finding out as well with her comments over the chancellor.
However, I agree that Ms Truss's polices are going to be tough and just wished we had people in power who would work for the people and not against them all the time.
I briefly saw today on the news that the IMF is wading in now too.
I don't feel that Ms truss is an idiot , but she is clearly only working for the minority and seems to be going for broke.

Just watched Starmer comment about that.

"Was she racist"

"Yes - and that's why I'm glad the Labour Party dealt with it swiftly"

Honest and succinct.

Imagine Johnson being asked that same question.

Other question

"Should backbenchers be on picket lines"

"No - they should be working with the sides to get a solution. That's the role of politicians"

Honest and succinct.

That for me is turning my mind towards believing Starmer could be a good pm.

Are they idiots or just liars lying about what they're really trying to achieve?

We are now governed by the far right of the Tory party, the ERG and their shady think tank cronies. Apparently the blueprint for their ideology is in their book Britannia Unchained, where they say that Britain needs to adopt a far reaching form of free market economics with fewer employment laws and workers rights. Brexit has opened the door for this as we are no longer bound by EU laws. So all this 'taking back control' was more about removing environmental protections, consumer protections and workers rights so they can create this market free of what they see as constraints on business.

@Kennykenkencat Its like Labour taking over.

How is a right wing, elected by Conservative party members, PM, screwing the economy sideways, anything like Labour taking over ?

MagpiePi · 28/09/2022 07:51

I initially thought they were idiots and making stupid mistakes.

That they would do a crap job for a few fee months but try and keep the electorate sweet for the last 12 month before the next election.

Now after this last budget, I think they've given up. They have realised they wont win the next election and just want to make as much money out of the tax payer as they can while they are in power.

They are a bunch of crooks and literally channeling as much money from the taxpayer as they can, in the limited months they have left in power, in front of our very eyes.

This is exactly what I think.

Also, Labour will inherit such a shit show that they will have little chance of repairing the damage, thus allowing the tories to sit in opposition and bray about how badly they are doing.

And then some buffoon like Boris will become party leader, because they'll tell another load of lies in the run up to an election, win and then carry on making money awhile bleating about how Labour have fucked it all up for them.

It really make me want to weep

GoTeamRocket · 28/09/2022 07:54

I think it will take a long time for people to forgive the Conservatives.

I am not a fan of general elections, but we need one. The people did not vote for Truss economics.

Diverseopinions · 28/09/2022 07:57

The MPs, and especially the former cabinet members, who put their name to support Liz Truss, must speak up about what they think the strategy is and why it is ok. Or, put pressure on her to amend it. Sajid Javid supported her, and he had a major banking job at a young age in his career. He is surely financially astute. He knows what he is talking about. Can he explain to the rest of us her policy, which was publicised in the run up, and say why it captured his interest? Can't he steer her, now? It's supposed to be collegiate governance.

I can't think why he isn't PM, or Sunak. I blame the party members and despair of the system, by which they can decide.

Well comparing like for like, there's a party that is deliberately thrashing the economy, lining their rich banker mates pockets with plans to do more damage and then there are others who although seem boring are not hell bent on wrecking the country and seeing us all on the breadline. I'm not sure 🤔

Fireflygal · 28/09/2022 08:01

@Kennykenkencat, Can I ask where you are getting your Information from, that has formed your thoughts? What do you listen to or read? Genuinely interested

Whatafustercluck · 28/09/2022 08:07

I was talking to dh about all this last night. His prediction is that because the Tories have so massively funked everything up, it will take Starmer the first 5 years in office just attempting to return the status quo. He'll then be criticised by left and right for not putting things right quickly enough, not doing enough. The Tories will trot out the old trope about Labour leaving that note saying "there's no money left", the electorate will all suffer from collective amnesia about the Tory years and return them to power because the tabloids post a photo of Starmer eating a bacon sandwich.

I'd love to say I disagreed and have more faith in the electorate. But, well, they elected Boris Johnson. And voted for Brexit.

Mind you, Boris was just incompetent. Trussolini is crazy and dangerous. I can honestly say the UK is in the biggest mess of my lifetime. And people can't even protest because they took that away too.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 28/09/2022 08:08

I think it will take a long time for people to forgive the Conservatives.

I think about this quite a bit. I grew up in the 90s and through that whole time there were parts of the country and society that held such hatred for the Tory party.

I used to think it odd and perhaps a bit unfair: afterall, by the time I was old enough to be aware of it, the people who had done most of the things they were angry about had left politics. Towards the end of the decade they weren't even in power. I could 'get' why people didn't just listen to each party's manifesto and pick the one that suited them the best. Choosing fresh each time based on the current promises etc.

I never got it.

I am now a lot older and have seen the last 12 years firsthand. I get it now. Rightly or wrongly, it'll take a number of loooong years before I get forget what I've seen this crowd of fuckers do and I feel like forgiveness may be beyond me.

yeah, it'll take until the 1st Daily Express and/or Daily Mail headline that the new Labour government isn't working, {which will be about a week after the next GE}

romatheroamer · 28/09/2022 08:23

As opposed to Angela Rayner talking to world leaders (why is that the main test any way, we're talking about running this country) you've got NotCleverly as Foreign Secretary. What a relief....Er?....

InsertPunHere · 28/09/2022 08:30

I think the Truss government is basically asset-stripping the country. Grabbing what they can before the whole country collapses.

VampiresWife · 28/09/2022 08:31

Personally I think it's like that episode of Father Ted where Ireland wins Eurovision again and they can't afford to host it for another year, so they get Ted and Dougal to represent them with a shit song. The Tories are bored of being in power and Liz Truss is My Lovely Horse.

VampiresWife · 28/09/2022 08:33

Also, the Tory/Boris fangirls on here have been very quiet of late haven't they? I wonder why? Possibly because they can no longer trot out their 'but imagine how much worse it would be with Labour in charge' line.

It's terrifying. I'm starting to think she was put in by the Tory membership exactly to do that, for the benefit of them and their rich friends. I'm not sure she even realises it.

I have to say Starmer has done very well the last couple of days. I've just listened to him on R4 and he talks a lot of sense and he is actually out there now.

I'm ethically slightly left of centre, but by no means a committed Labour voter. He has my attention now, whereas previously I was slightly disappointed that Labour weren't making more headway and that his profile was too low.

I ve joked in the past that the Tory party is infiltrated by the Russians.

Now i'm not sure its a joke.

They seem to be in the thrall of the extreme right tax payers alliance, who seem to have moved into no10.

Figgygal · 28/09/2022 08:39

People are going to lose their homes
Our mortgage repayments going up 40% and that's with us paying to end our fixed 6 months early god knows what it would be in 6months time. Going to be a shit few years but won't lose the house unlike some people

XingMing · 28/09/2022 08:45

I am a One Nation Tory (socially liberal/economically pragmatic) but in view of Starmer's speech to the Labour Conference yesterday, and his response to Haq, I am prepared to reassign my vote.

It would be better if the sensible middle ground Tories walked away from the UKIPpers to create a breakaway group.
