Well, I knew that already, but every day she shocks me with the heights her deluded self-confidence goes to

Liz Truss had to be convinced to issue statement amid market turmoil after mini-budget

The problem is there’s no alternative prospective leader we have confidence in, in any of the parties. Labour or Tory, all clowns. They’re all a shower of shit with not a clue between them. People turn to the Tories because the alternative is unthinkable. There needs to be another party out there which can offer us what we want. But there’s no-one.

Why do you think Labour aren't better than the current shitshow?

My cat isn't great at very much, apart from eating and staring at things. She can't add up or understand that I need to work to buy her food. She's stupid and governed by her stomach. She'd beat Liz Truss hands down as PM.
The Conservatives might just as well have stolen a cardboard cut out of anyone at all from HMV and voted them in as PM. I thought Boris was as bad as it got, but she's 1000000000 times worse with her yr9 dodgy understanding of anything. And she's so bloody inarticulate my cat and Dave the postman would put her and Kwarteng to shame.

We live in an actual dictatorship

Scary that the media enable this shit

Thankfully the government are so unashamedly awful that it's getting to the point that conditions are so bad that it can't continue

I've literally got to the point that I'm happy every time something more awful happens, no matter how painful it is, just so we reach our rock bottom as soon as possible

Understand this. I wanted Rishi Sunak for the good of the country as there was a vague hope he might hold things together, but after that Budget, I just see every subsequent misstep and disaster as a move closer to regime change before we are totally sunk.

Now let the dice fly high.

The ridiculous thing is that this is actual true

And nobody can claim it isn't!

If your cat had become prime minister we would be in a better positioned than we are now

Jesus wept

Of course there is. Try watching Starmer’s speech today.

Diverseopinions · 27/09/2022 23:57

Dominic Cummings said some very uncharitable things about Liz Truss, a few months ago. I hope he is wrong, and that her judgement isn't terribly skewed.

Was she just going for a populist, Thatcherite theme of what she thinks is very free market and true Conservatism?

Maybe had there been a longer drawing out of the leadership selection, Sunak might have drawn level. The margin didn't end up being as great as most predicted - for the voting. Sunak does have a sound grip of economics. I hope LT is prepared to listen to advice.

2 week RM strikes confirmed, the winter of discontent is building momentum

I really wish they'd all coordinate and go for a general strike. The situation is already dire, can't make things much worse.

Walkden · 28/09/2022 00:00

"The problem is there’s no alternative prospective leader we have confidence in, in any of the parties"

This is such a load of crap, and apologist rubbish for Tory incompetence and sleaze. I can't believe that starmer, despite being accused of being dull and uninspiring, would act with such flagrant disregard for the principles of governance, dismiss senior civil servants to try establish and authority, ignore expert advisers with predictable results.

FFS we have established institutions saying we are now viewed as an emerging country in many ways, not trusted to make sound economic decisions or adhere to our word and international law and publicly castigated by the IMF.

Right now it feels like the country is going down the pan. I would settle for anyone with a sense of public duty rather than self interest and of basic competence.

Livelovebehappy · 28/09/2022 00:06

Seriously, hand on heart, could anyone vote in a party with someone like Angela Rayner holding such a prominent position? To be fair, Starmer isn’t bad, and has potential, but he is surrounded by incompetent idiots like Rayner. Could you actually see her talking to World leaders? I cringe at the thought.

After only her first 3 weeks as PM, it's blindingly feckin obvious he wasn't wrong!! Confused

SheilaWilde · 28/09/2022 00:07

GreenLunchBox her name's Marmalade Wilde.

It's so awful it's funny. 'Yes Minister' and 'The Thick of it' couldn't have dreamed up this shit show because it would just seem so implausible. Yet here we are.

I'll put Marmalade forward and see how we get on - she literally couldn't do worse. My dog can be Home Secretary and Dave the postman as chancellor. I'll help them work out everything on the back of a fag packet just to keep it all in line with how the real PM and cronies do it. What a time to be alive! Fucking hell.

Genuine question: what is wrong with Angela Rayner, why is she incompetent?

Seriously? Do you not realise that 3 weeks in Trussia means definitively that you no longer have a leg to stand on if you want to deride Labour MPs?

Catch yerself on ffs Hmm

StellaGibson2022 · 28/09/2022 00:12

Liz Truss just doesn’t seem with it to - although clearly awake she appears as if she’s had some sort of sedative.

Its all a shit show and for me it all really started when Ed Balls lost his seat (I think 2015) - this utter shite unbelievable political saga shit show that has become like… I’m tired of it and just want us to go back to pre 2010 when life seemed much more simple.

I even look back to the austerity years and think they were okay - it’s that shit

Boris is bookies favourite to be the next PM!

Oh Goodie. The Tories can rebrand (AGAIN), even though they're having to do it so often now that they've run out of brands and have to recycle the old ones. Trussonomics will be yesterday's news and it will turn out no other Tory MPs actually believed in it anyway, and we'll get a return to the good old "sensible" Boris who handled the pandemic so well.

And people will believe them, and vote for them again.

Much less than that in really. For half that time the nation was in mourning for the late Queen. It’s taken one mini Budget causing the pound to tank to prove that Cummings was right about Truss. (Yes, it was Kwarteng who announced the Budget but she said it was what she intended to do.)

There’s also been radio silence from her, hardly the right response under the circumstances.

Bunnycat101 · 28/09/2022 00:25

It is really worrying. We’re a household that benefits a lot from the mini budget but felt deeply uneasy the day it was announced as others in my circle did. If the people who benefit from the ‘give away’ feel like they shouldn’t be there is something wrong and that sentiment has been reflected in the market response. People can see public services crumbling. It is abhorrent that lower paid public sector workers will not get pay rises to avoid inflation when the budget has been written to benefit the better off. Just as the energy costs hit, people will be worried about their mortgages, businessss will have to pay more to import, service costs for things like childcare will have to go up. The whole thing is electoral suicide.

If there’s one thing Tory mps are good at, it’s self preservation. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some sort of back bench revolt. Many mps will be feeling vulnerable both to labour but also to the Lib Dems in traditional blue areas.

As opposed to the current government which is incompetence personified as opposed to perhaps snobbery over an accent.

Honestly, if countbinface was in charge it's hard to believe he'd fuck up the country in 8 days

DomPom47 · 28/09/2022 00:29
