Well, I knew that already, but every day she shocks me with the heights her deluded self-confidence goes to

Liz Truss had to be convinced to issue statement amid market turmoil after mini-budget

What I dont understand is that Thatcher was super-unpopular

Not with the tiny number of people who actually had a say in choosing the pm. They couldn't get enough of her.

Have you ever had a job where someone who is a complete fucking idiot gets to be your boss in spite of being as thick as mince and an incompetent yet malevolent bastard? That’s Liz Truss in a nutshell.

No, thank god, but I can imagine that. Would explain a lot about why we are where we are

Every day I drive to work and think "most of these people on the road have voted in this government and like it and I really don't understand it"

I spend my days interacting with people and in my head thinking they probably voted for this

I'd love to live in a world again where I never thought about politics

It's ridiculous isn't it? The Tory party membership is a tiny proportion of the population and they've saddled us with yet another hopeless PM. Total madness at this point. How she can possibly consider herself to have a mandate to pull this crazy shit is beyond me. I know we are an apathetic country generally but how long before real protests start?

Apart from the strike action currently happening across many sectors?

Well that’s been all over the media before she even took over, and why he left with hasta la vista baby,

I just googled what hasta la vista means. I thought it meant goodbye 🙄😭

"What I dont understand is that Thatcher was super-unpopular"

Distance lends enchantment and despite the collapse of the Red Wall, I doubt too many people who were (eg) miners in 1984 are Tory party members today.

I loathed her with every fibre of my being but I doubt even she would have presided over such a shit show, at a time of national crisis, in the literal first days of PMship.

Clutching at straws here but perhaps if enough people sign this petition it might at least wake up the backbenchers a bit as to how unpopular this government is?

The only thing I can really think is, The Conservatives know they aren't winning the next GE, so they are going to spend the next two years making their friends and themselves rich, borrow billions, bankrupt us and then hand it all over to labour and say "there you go, you sort it, I'm off on my private yacht round the med"

Of course. I still can't believe they got in again last time... but brexit.....

I signed but it says the government has already replied to say 'fuck off'

Every day I drive to work and think "most of these people on the road have voted in this government and like it and I really don't understand it"

Except they didn’t.

About 32 million votes were cast in this election. The turnout was 67.3% of registered voters, which represents a 1.5% drop on the 2017 general election.

The Conservatives won the most seats - 365 - and also the biggest share of votes, 45%, or about 13.9 million.

This government got 45% out of 67% of registered voters. Not convincing, is it?

It's his Churchill schtick again, but frankly nothing that happens would surprise me at the moment.

UK markets have lost $500 billion since Liz Truss took over

Signed the petition, will share it on other platforms. At 100,000 they have to admit in parliament that a lot of people want them out. Labour have agreed today at conference to debate changing to a PR method of voting which would be better than the undemocracy that we currently have. Doesn't mean they'll pass it as a motion but it's a start (not that I'm a Labour voter).

This is why labour needs to commit to proportion representation or they will be out after five years when the right wing press blame them for the shitshow of the last 12 years they inherited

For fuck's sake they're still being invoked now 🙄🤔

Looked at the petition, and the government response - The Prime Minister has pledged to ensure opportunity and prosperity for all people and future generations.

MintJulia · 27/09/2022 23:35

You are not wrong.

Truss and Kwarteng between them aren't fit to look after the petty cash. They need to U-turn and Kwarteng needs to fall on his sword within a week or they'll be in opposition, and we'll be in recession for a decade.

Bloody idiots.

We live in an actual dictatorship

Scary that the media enable this shit

Thankfully the government are so unashamedly awful that it's getting to the point that conditions are so bad that it can't continue

I've literally got to the point that I'm happy every time something more awful happens, no matter how painful it is, just so we reach our rock bottom as soon as possible

She is an absolute idiot and a disgrace to women!! She can’t even read off a script!
as for morals - she has none! A sewer rat probably has more. How she can sanction the removal of the higher rate income tax I really don’t know!!!! I’m fuming 😡

Livelovebehappy · 27/09/2022 23:44

The problem is there’s no alternative prospective leader we have confidence in, in any of the parties. Labour or Tory, all clowns. They’re all a shower of shit with not a clue between them. People turn to the Tories because the alternative is unthinkable. There needs to be another party out there which can offer us what we want. But there’s no-one.

So you want them to U-turn so the Tories stay in power? 🤮

This is all so ludicrous I’m beginning to think it’s a pre-planned plot to get Boris back.

How could they be so incompetent in the opening month of their new government? LT went through what must be the longest leadership election in history, so she had plenty of time to think about this. But I do know people who have brains the size of a planet who don’t know the right way to sit on a lavatory sadly. Especially those who are welded to theory rather than practice.

And why is no one pointing out that if we had joined the Euro it would not be possible to be so reckless with the economy as it would have breached the compliance criteria?
