To think Starmer is starting to show some original ideas?

He pledges to set up a publicly-owned green energy company within a year if he is elected, with 100% clean power by 2030

Sounds enterprising and different to the bog standard ‘we’re going to nationalise everything’. There’s agency with it being green energy and good for the environment. Sounds more like responsible nationalisation…

“He says the war in Ukraine was the spark that caused rising energy costs, but that the country was not in a position to deal with it.”

And that’s insightful. Sounds like he’s thought something through.

Being reported Live from Labour conference: www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-63042145

P.S. I’m a centric voter who swings and sways depending on what’s going on at the time and what’s on offer etc.
Right now, I do not like Truss’ government because she seems irresponsible (dodging the OBR report for the mini budget with semantics) and she just doesn’t care…
Labour as the obvious opposition but there are other options. This is the first time in a while I’ve seen Starmer present a fresh new idea…

Lol!
No they won't, the fundamentals of UK borrowing aren't going to change and neither are bond yields, Govt borrowing costs and the small fact no one yesterday wanted to buy Govt debt - too risky, bonds halved in value.

So the BoE had to step in to buy bonds, unprecedented, not even done in 2008, its as if Putin himself is our Chancellor.

This will effect mortgages house prices and perhaps most importantly rent prices for perhaps years to come.

Now we have Govt spending cuts, effecting (as per usual) the very women and children you claim you wish to protect.

Don't be a drama queen.

We knew the interest rates were going to be increased for months and months now, this is not a surprise to anyone but you it seems.

You can not claim the spending cuts will affect women and children - it is down to the councils to make decisions on where there can be savings.

We can not carry on as we are. Full stop. We need growth to head off a deep world wide recession. I agree with many of the Truss decisions, and I think they will work.

We need to hold our nerve.

In fact I would expect a revised statement from the IMF once you explain precisely how these policies will lead to economic growth... Oh, you can't explain it? It is just blind faith? That's disappointing.

lannistunut · 29/09/2022 08:17

Kissingfrogs25 · 28/09/2022 21:57

I disagree - markets will settle. This will be a non story next week.

You sound really knowledgeable, the detailed economic analysis in your posts is really enlightening Grin

No but its impossible to discuss with posters whose sole intention isn't to debate the issues but to blame Labour for 12 years of the removal of womens rights, from police misogyny to TW in womens prisons to closure of DV refuge's..

But instead of asking why the Tory party have done this, you mouth "say goodbye to childrens safe guarding..... its been a fuckin stella success under the tories hasn't it? How many children tortured to death?

Its also a thread about Labours new ideas, so perhaps if you feel so strongly about it, start a thread on Labours TW 's issues, instead of hijacking this one.

But we want one of Labours new ideas to be about women’s rights, safeguarding women and children, accurate sex based data collection. Repeal of the damage done to women.
This has happened under a Tory government, but we all sleep walked into the situation where mens feelings are more important than women rights and safety.
What are Labours policies to stop and reverse the damage done by the GRC and gender affirming care, the sacking of people with gender critical views, or even liking a tweet.
police have been arresting women for putting a sticker on a lamppost, male bodied sex offenders have been housed in women’s prisons, Children have been put on puberty blockers which has life long effects on fertility. And this in the UK. But the labour part dismisses these concerns.
You can’t post on a women’s forum and then complain that you don’t like the issues that women raise. You have to start listening and then acting on the concerns raised, to use a well worn phrase, “Educate Yourself “.

ivykaty44 · 29/09/2022 11:35

at least if we had a labour government we could protest about woman’s rights. Under Torys it’s looking less likely we can object to anything

MarshaBradyo · 29/09/2022 11:38

Great knowingly elect a party where women are impacted enough to protest

Depressing

lannistunut · 29/09/2022 11:44

It is pretty desperate how any discussion of any political or economic issue becomes about self-ID, which is a Tory policy anyway. The situation we have around women's rights is clearly Tory doing, as they are the government and have chosen what is currently happening in prisons, schools, healthcare etc.

Fishandchipsupper · 29/09/2022 14:35

Funny that isn’t it.

You’d almost think it was a top priority for women, the way every thread goes this way.

It may be a priority for those women who drag it into every thread and take the thread over. Some of us feel other matters are more of a priority for us and would like to discuss then.

opposed to knowingly electing a party that woman & men are banned from protesting

Like i said, start a thread titled "What are labours new ideas on protecting women's rights wrecked after 12 years of Tory rule?"

Instead of making this thread all about the ONE idea you want us all to discuss.

But you wont do that will you? because what you want to do is wreck any positivity toward Labour, its not as if you have mentioned anything else is it.

I will hang fire on Labour and TWAW until i read their manifesto.

What i am delighted about is they are looking to speed up rape investigations/ prosecutions.. pity you can't be at least a little happy about that :(

NewbietoSE3 · 29/09/2022 17:40

New poll just out puts Labour 33 points ahead which is pretty historic. I guess the mini-budget is not "yesterdays news" after all!

Kissingfrogs25 · 29/09/2022 18:44

It’s going to be a shame when Labour lose again - as they undoubtedly will, even in these conditions

That can't last, but I will enjoy it while it does, that is fucking mental.

I would just love to be a fly on the wall in No.10 today Grin Grin Grin

Truss is worse at media interviews than the Maybot! I love it.

Nadine Dorries has been proven right Shock

HRTQueen · 29/09/2022 19:14

My understanding was that many Tory party members supported Truss as the idea was that she could be manipulated from behind the scenes

well it doesn’t look like that is the case

I do believe Labour will win the next election but it must not be taken for granted. I wouldn’t be surprised if Truss is challenged and gone next year the Tories won’t waste time as they know there is a real risk of not just not being in power but losing a large number of seats

Truss interviews today were shockingly poor I couldn’t even be amused

Yes, the last few days have been quite a drama. The behaviour of this PM and Chancellor is unprecedented.

I think this opening from Radio Leeds is great 'Where've you bin?' twitter.com/dinosofos/status/1575381418464739328

A sincere question @Kissingfrogs25 - what makes you think people won't care one jot in 18 months if their mortgage repayments are crippling / not possible to meet?

jetadore · 29/09/2022 21:17

Christ, no. But I suppose after all shit sandwiches we’ve been eating, a wet lettuce would probably taste like caviar.

If the rights of men were being threatened it would be a number one issue. And you can’t complain if the thread doesn’t go the way you wanted. I’d love to vote Labour but not at the moment

Don't worry we won't pander you crack on digging your holes if it makes you happy. Back on planet earth Labour have just had a 33% lead.
