To not like the atmosphere in Aldi?

Can’t quite put my finger on it but there is something I find a-bit off putting. I went the other day and I really wanted to like it but there was a chaotic atmosphere and the people were so loud. I’m aware I don’t have to shop there but wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

It feels more like a wholesalers than a supermarket, but you get the atmosphere you pay for.

It's a supermarket. If you want calm and quiet you're looking in the wrong place.

No. It's no different from any other supermarket in my experience. When it's busy it's busy. When it's quiet it's quiet.

It's the whole idea of it. Strip away the frills = lower pricing for the customer. If you want a better in shop experience shop elsewhere.

Nope, I can't say I've ever found the atmosphere chaotic or off putting. I like the prices ,and the products are fine.

I agree, I do use Aldi most of the time but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish for a Waitrose budget!

The staff in my local aldi are some of the rudest people I’ve ever come across.

Oh interesting.... I like Aldi, but I think I know what you mean. You feel as if you need to get round the shop, get what you need and get out immediately. I am sure that's deliberate. I don't think I'd find myself browsing in Aldi or lingering there

Well, you don’t go there for a good customer experience, you go for cheap prices. But I know what you mean.

It's a supermarket, not a spa hotel. I don't really care what the 'atmosphere' is like.

Aldi and Lidl are more cluttered than Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda etc because they are saving money on staff, shop fittings etc so they can pass that saving on to the customer with cheaper prices.

I have never noticed the people in any supermarket being louder than anywhere else.

It's the only one that has this imo, Lidl is far better

It's not like that in my local one

I prefer Lidl as there seems to be less packaging and more fruit and veg choice. However I did find it very offputting one day in Lidl when they had a manager exhorting the till operators to compete with each other, using a tannoy so customers were hearing all the bollocks. In my experience they are always good at their jobs, friendly but don't hang about either, so no need to hassle them, counter-productive in my view.

I used to feel like this about Aldi and Lidl but they've really improved over past few years. I find both easy to use, lots of self service tills so I don't end up queuing behind people buying hundreds of item for my three things and staff are nice.

My local Asda however is hell and I absolutely get that feeling about other people who are there. No manners, push into you or hit you with their trolley, entire families of 7+ people shopping together and blocking aisles and tills (even after 8pm). Queues that go on forever. Despite having a blue light card and getting 10% discount, I refuse to go there.

Maybe it's just your local one.

The staff in my local aldi are really friendly, they go out of their way to say hello and to help, and the customers are mostly polite and courteous.

Our Aldi is quite a pleasant store to shop in. It is normally quite quiet and is laid out very well. The manager there is lovely and the staff seem very happy there and have been there for years. I don't go that often due to is location though

My local one is far calmer and pleasant than the Asda in the next town - that's chaotic

I find it store dependent, not across every location. Some are really nice, others feel quite grim.

Ours feels a bit oppressive I don't know why it's definitely not chaotic people can be sombre and look fed up ! Lidl is "cheerier"

I wanted to try Aldi because it's so much cheaper.

I went, became overwhelmed and left. The security guy literally followed me around the shop, past the tills, and out across the car park, walking very close behind me. It honestly was intimidating. It really put me off going back. I had done nothing wrong. This was when it was very hot so I evidently had not taken anything as I had a plain T shirt on and it was very obvious there was nowhere anything could be.
