To not like the atmosphere in Aldi?

Can’t quite put my finger on it but there is something I find a-bit off putting. I went the other day and I really wanted to like it but there was a chaotic atmosphere and the people were so loud. I’m aware I don’t have to shop there but wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

Definitely no need to faff about beans because Aldi beans are THE best beans imho.

After a night of insomnia and zero sleep this thread has given me a good laugh this morning , I can’t say which supermarket has a better atmosphere as I don’t go to them DH does the food shop and says our Aldi is fine and he goes on Saturday morning about 10.30

It's just a chain store. All chain stores are unpleasant, pretty much: horrible cold lighting, tacky vinyl and plasticky stands with garish signage plastered about. Constant noise -- music, tannoys, beeping and crashing.

Shops aren't nice.

Went to Aldi yesterday evening not too long before 10pm closing was the only customer in. Was virtually silent. Easily got what I needed and quick in and out.

No you’re totally right. Just as Covid was evolving there was this rude and let’s say rather large woman pondering for ages over bags and bags of chicken. Myself and 3 other ladies were standing patiently behind her, rolling our eyes as we just waited. Eventually she picked her bag and walked off, I opened the freezer as it was my turn, only to be pushed by her as she didn’t want the bag she had for some reason. Rather than apologise for tripping me over her response was “you’re suppose to be 2 metres away from me” well I just saw Red and my response was “well if you weren’t so fat and didn’t stuff your face with a load of chicken I would be, now move!” Her partner was smirking and so did the other customers! I’m not normally rude or nasty like that and don’t often speak to ppl on that level but her arrogance just triggered me. Aldi does seem to attract rude and very pushy people that don’t have any patience or any understanding that others are in there too and haven’t got all day to just mope about! Lol hope that made you giggle :-)

Why would this make anyone giggle? You sound awful.

Also, there is no need to refer to yourself as "myself".

Ours is great 🤷‍♀️
alternatives here are Sainsburys, which is dark and dingy with miserable staff, or Morrisons with too many self check outs.

There are two in my area. One is very dated, dark and grey - feels like a warehouse. Not somewhere you'd browse for a long time. The other is much newer and is very light bright and airy. Totally different atmosphere.

Unlike the likes of Tesco, Morrisons, sainsburys etc they don't want you to hang around hence no cafe, clothing, customer loos etc. this is their ethos and it's why they can keep prices lower.

The newish one near me has customer loos! It is nice, bright, big windows at the front. All the new ones are perhaps they want us to stay just long enough to browse the middle aisle!

My Aldi is excellent never have to wait long for check out and all the staff are really friendly and helpful. They even open a certain check out that a ASD adult prefers and he dances with joy, it’s little touches like this that made me email the HO to say what a brilliant store it is. Our local Lidl is always under staffed although the assistants are still pleasant it puts me off going.

I love how everyone talks about "aldi" and "lidl" as if they are one huge blob, with identical stores and staff across the UK.

For the record, the nearest Lidl to me is a much older store, grubby, dark, cramped and with rude staff. The Aldi by contrast is only 2 years old, bright and clean, aisles twice the width of Lidl and some really chatty and lovely staff.

But i'm not dim enough to think that the Aldi I use for my shopping in suburban Glasgow is exactly the same as the Aldi in Aberdeen, Birmingham or Plymouth.

Definitely
My friend was "oh I hate morrisons" which I was a bit Confused at. Then I went shopping at her local one. Awful layout, dark, messy, looked neglected. My local one is newly refurbished and lovely

Lulutheevilguineapig · 28/09/2022 10:19

Loads of Morrisons are horrible, but I used to live near a lovely one. Was really sad to leave it when I moved away.

toddlingtortoise · 28/09/2022 10:38

Ours is lovely, it's bright, newish, spotless with a great range and lovely staff, much prefer it to any other supermarket apart from Waitrose but not paying double and driving an extra 20 minutes
