I hate foxes

Honestly I HATE them. I mean I know they look sort of nice but they are just awful. I've taken to trying to shoot them with a super soaker like a crazy woman not that it makes any bloody difference.
They scream all night, that horrible noise that sounds like someone being murdered. They have figured out how to get into our 'fox proof' food waste bins so we often go out to see manky bits of food strewn around. And if we manage to keep ours somewhere they can't get to it then a neighbour will have probably forgotten so it will still be up the pavement. We had to stop using the milkman because they figured out how to knock the milk bottles over so the foil lid would be dislodged and then milk would go everywhere and stink, and they'd probably only lick a little bit of it and just leave the rest in a big smelly puddle, they terrorise my poor cat, they dig my grass and they like to mark their territory with diarrhoea. Leaving little pools of it on our stuff. There's a load which has gone partly on the wall, then run down it and pooled at the bottom this morning. Ugh. Any ideas how I can get the little fuckers to bugger off? We've tried those noise things now and they make no difference.
There is a massive problem in this area. If you remember the news story where a fox went into a house and killed a baby a few years back that wasn't far from here...
Help!

They are real pests. They spray their shit all round our garden too OP. Front garden and back garden.

The noise at night is dreadful. I've counted more than 20 in the road outside our house one evening. Then the mess the next day.

They ruin the garden and bring other peoples stuff and rubbish into the garden too.

They aren't at all scared of people. They are real vermin.

TheHateIsNotGood · 26/09/2022 09:37

Foxes have no natural predators so will uncontrollably breed and take hold in urban areas due to lack of food resources in the countryside. Many farmyards that used to have roaming chickens no longer do as they just get killed by foxes.

Over-breeding and inter-breeeding will probably lead to the spread of illnesses within the fox populations so that could lead to a reduction in numbers but in a bit of a painful and unhygenic way. Or you could pay someone to kill them for you.

Maybe foxhunting was the most humane and natural solution after all.

And I do like foxes and their wild screams in the night.

Suzi888 · 26/09/2022 09:39

I don’t know how they aren’t scared of your dog? I’ve got the softest Labrador in the world but all he has to do is stand on our balcony and stare at them. I was afraid he might do himself a mischief so we have cat proofed. It’s easy.

I don’t understand how you are all having so much of an issue to be honest.

DorritLittle · 26/09/2022 09:40

Weird, I have a fox den at the bottom of my garden and have never experienced any of this. But then I don't have a food waste bin outside or get milk delivered.

My foxes shriek exactly when they are supposed to, according to google. It's actually quite interesting, if you find out why. The fox/child story was dubious, sorry. Also I've had several cats in my garden for years and never once have any been approached. Rabbits and chickens would be, naturally, and foxes are the reason I don't have those. But the den was there before my house was.

I hate them with the fire of 1000 suns.
animal lovers look away now*
The only way to get rid of them is either 1. Get a dog or 2. Get the pest control people out. And by pest control I mean a man with a shotgun who will kill as many of the fuckers as possible.

Jolyon Maugham, is that you?

PennyPinkPineapple · 26/09/2022 09:40

A woman who lived two doors down from my mum and dad took a sick one in, spent £££s on medicine to make it better and then kept it in her garden. They stink.

Suzi888 · 26/09/2022 09:41

“Maybe foxhunting was the most humane and natural solution after all.” It’s fucking barbaric. So no.

🙄🤔🤣A shit spraying fox? I’m having a hard time believing this thread is real tbh. Photos or it didn’t happen.

Eastangular2000 · 26/09/2022 09:43

YABVU as you are a cat owner and they go and shit all over other people gardens!

Qwerkie · 26/09/2022 09:24

urban foxes are so brazen because there are people who think they’re cute so they’ll feed them. Their pleasure at feeding the foxes outweighs anything else - that’s if they even think about the impact of what they’re doing. Which they don’t because they’re “helping” the foxes. Foxes don’t need our help.

Maybe tell that to all the foxes that actually do need our help....

DorritLittle · 26/09/2022 09:47

Foxes need our help when we make them dependent on us by feeding them. The odd treat is fine but not regular feeding. Google it.

Funnily enough. I didn't take photos of the shit on my front door.

Fml1980 · 26/09/2022 09:49

Foxes are a pain, they shit all over the place.
Have digged up holes in my garden, and worst of all killed my daughters rabbit.
But it's not there fault really is it, I mean we have basically built all over there land.

SoupDragon · 26/09/2022 09:49

I watched one chase my cat in through the cat flap and he wasn't a small cat!

closingloop · 26/09/2022 09:57

I hate them too, mangy ginger bastards

WhatIsThisPlease · 26/09/2022 09:57

I hate them. And their nasty beady eyes.

Vermin.

SuperCamp · 26/09/2022 09:58

I hate urban foxes.

They look so unhealthy compared to rural foxes, scrawny, mangy etc.

But they are scavengers so as long as we have disgusting humans who strew food waste and litter everywhere I think we are stuck with them. The fast food and chicken shop culture supports them.

Faciadipasta · 26/09/2022 10:01

@Suzi888 I know it wasn't me you were asking about the shit spraying but here's a photo of an example of sprayed fox shit I've had to clean today. Enjoy.

If it means that much to you, get a sonic cat scarer from the RSPB which works with foxes as well as cats.

Do these really truly work? I've seen such mixed reviews.

I wonder if they would repel squirrels (we have foxes AND a tree full of grey squirrels as well as myriad local cats visiting daily).

Soubriquet · 26/09/2022 10:02

That’s nothing…

I was expecting piles of it and sprayed all over.

My chihuahua does more mess

Faciadipasta · 26/09/2022 10:02

And my cats don't bloody shit in people's gardens! They don't even shit in mine. They use a litter tray!

Oh god no! How utterly awful!

How do you cope!!!

Imissmoominmama · 26/09/2022 10:03

I live rurally and they’re not a problem here. However, I went to stay at my son’s, in London. I took my dog, and was looking after his while he was away. There’s a park behind his flat where I walked them.

They absolutely stank every time we came home. They weren’t rolling in anything, but I suppose they brushed against things the foxes had weed on.

There were also torn apart bin bags in the alleyway.

The foxes weren’t as much of an issue as the skanky people in the park though- dropping their litter everywhere!

Pretty much sums up humans.

AlwaysGinPlease · 26/09/2022 10:03

@WhatIsThisPlease

Delightful. Vermin is subjective.

Suzi888 · 26/09/2022 10:05

@Faciadipasta Is that definitely a fox…. We’ve had foxes in our garden and they didn’t do anything apart from sunbathe.
