Gino D'Acampo's accent

He was born and grew up in Sheffield. Even if he grew up with a solely/mostly Italian speaking family (I don't know if he did?) surely he wouldn't speak with such a strong accent.

I work with a lot of Indian families in my area. English isn't spoken at home however the children are so exposed to the local accent outside of home that they speak predominantly with the local accent.

So, how fake (or not) is his accent?

Yes, I know I shouldn't be giving him any headspace. He happened to be on TV and was hugging an old woman whose body language was screaming "get off me".

Who told you he was born in Sheffield? Keith Lemon???

stillvicarinatutu · 25/09/2022 20:06

He speak with the same accent as my neighbour who is Italian . It's an Italian accent ! He's Italian ! You think he's putting it on ? Really ?

Simonjt · 25/09/2022 20:06

I’m always amazed by how many people think Keith Lemons spoof about Gino is true 🤣

I hate to break it to you, but Craig David doesn’t have a bird callee Kez

blondepinkaudi · 25/09/2022 20:06

I'm half Italian. I don't have an accent but my family were born and bred Italians and they sound just like gino (from the same area)

Jackie246 · 25/09/2022 20:07

He was born and raised in Italy! His middle name is Sheffield which is perhaps where the info has come from, albeit muddled?

ManateeFair · 25/09/2022 20:08

He’s not from Sheffield, ffs

Juicesausagecake · 25/09/2022 20:08

Is the armed robbery story a joke as well?Poor man. Much maligned.

ThreeblackCats · 25/09/2022 20:08

And that’s your biggest worry is it?

Squirrelsquirrel · 25/09/2022 20:09

I don't know who Keith Lemon is. Is he celebrity juice guy?

Either way, I've just googled and now feel very stupid! 🤣 so to answer by own question: NOT fake.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 25/09/2022 20:09

Well, TIL that he’s a convicted burglar. Never knew that.

Defo knew he was born in Italy though.

Russell19 · 25/09/2022 20:09

My husband also says the accent is fake 🤣 it makes me laugh

Arnaquer · 25/09/2022 20:09

What's the thing with Craig David?

TooManyMoronsHere · 25/09/2022 20:10

Not sure where you got your information from. He lived in Italy until he was 18. My Dad came to England at the same age and is a fair few years older than Gino and has just as strong an accent.

Double0FeckingBollocks · 25/09/2022 20:11

This is the reason Media Studies should be compulsory at school. Seriously, people need to learn to sift the the shite from the truth. Don't believe everything you see/read OP.

CousinLucy · 25/09/2022 20:12

Totally fake. I'm married to an Italian lived in Italy for the first 14 years of his life. He speaks with an indeterminate accent. Very minor. Some people guess South African! Usually people's ear can't detect it. He spent ages perfecting his Ws (no w in the Italian alphabet).

But Gino is a cook. So an accent befits his job? Makes him more exotic?

VroomVrooom · 25/09/2022 20:14

I mean, wouldn’t a quick Google have provided you with a much less embarrassing faster answer on this, rather than Mumsnet, OP?

🤣

Squirrelsquirrel · 25/09/2022 20:16

Media studies? 🤣

It was from a friend who is nornally reliable. 😂 I shall have words and never believe a thing she says ever again.

She has met him a few times (well that's what he says... 🤣) and thinks he is awful. He's always seemed a bit sleazy but l've never paid much attention. It just happened he was on TV and made me think.

Paigeycakey · 25/09/2022 20:17

Never mind OP I chuckled. I know what you mean.... I think its his overtop/in your face personality that goes with his accent.
I've never met any Italian that speaks like him.

Although even if you are born in England and your have parents with strong accents children absolutely do pick that up and also speak with a twang.

Squirrelsquirrel · 25/09/2022 20:17

@VroomVrooom this doesn't even register on the "things I've done to embarrass myself" scale tbh.

VroomVrooom · 25/09/2022 20:19

Well, Google would certainly have been a lot quicker.

Bitterbean · 25/09/2022 20:25

@Squirrelsquirrel it's fine to make a mistake. Don't sweat it.

Everydayislikesundays · 25/09/2022 20:27

Does anyone think he’s acting a bit camp nowadays 🤷🏻‍♀️

No unfortunately that was true...
And it was 80s pop star Paul
'Wherever I lay my Hat' Youngs house that he burgled. However he never brings it up because he doesn't want people to think that being a burglar can lead to a celebrity career....
