To say it OK to pee in the shower?

So the question is, is it OK to pee whilst in the shower - proviso being you ensure you have washed everything away properly. The topic of conversation came up relating way back to one of the Big Brother series where someone admitted to regularly peeing in the shower.

One logic was 'well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits' ..........

Not one post acknowledging the risk from bacteria from urine multiplying in a shower drain which does not connect to a closed soil pipe from a toilet. Pee is not sterile as some posters seem to think - it contains bacteria and peeing in the shower can cause problems if you have an open cut or sore. If you have a yeast infection, peeing in the shower can potentially cause MRSA - and if you live in an older property with open drains there’s a potential problem there too.

I was toilet trained as a toddler. I use the toilet for doing a wee, not the shower. I’m pretty lax with cleanliness and hygiene but peeing in the shower just seems really lazy and unnecessary to me.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 25/09/2022 12:15

Widdle away, just don't share a flannel.

lemmein · 25/09/2022 12:18

I don't believe anyone who says they've never peed in the shower.

Also never seen a row of colour coded sponges/flannels in peoples bathrooms either so I'm calling bullshit on that too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sparklingbrook · 25/09/2022 10:29

No it’s not ok. We are a flannel and sponge free house, no chance of sharing them either. Bleurgh.

(Only exception was a week or so post childbirth when it was less painful to pee in the shower but I hated doing it)

How do you wash without a flannel or something? I have loads, they get used once and then washed. Nothing gross about that.

And yes, I do occasionally pee in the shower! It's all going in the same drain and it saves water. Shower had never smelled and is perfectly clean!

Nolongera · 25/09/2022 12:21

Everyone wees in the shower, just like everyone wees in the swimming pool, but no-one will admit it

Panjandrum123 · 25/09/2022 12:22

Gross. I don’t understand all the people who think this fine. I didn’t know the things posted by @Rosscameasdoody but makes sense.
@RustyShackleford3 I get the water conservation angle but still it’s grim. What’s wrong with peeing in the loo and only flushing when someone needs to poo? Tho a dunny with sawdust would probably be better.

loislovesstewie · 25/09/2022 12:24

Uh. Yes in our house we do have different colours. I use a thing like a net curtain scrunched up in the shower. My oldest uses a sponge that is blue and the youngest uses a large, round yellow one. When I wash my face I use face wash on my hands and don't need a cloth. My kids have flannels in their own colours as above.

It's weird to find peeing in the shower 'grim' but have no problem with fermenting piss lingering in your loo Hmm

Hastilymadeupname · 25/09/2022 12:24

I used to think it was gross…however, it’s actually encouraged by environmental campaigners.

flushing toilets takes up a huge amount of water ( which costs a fortune in cash and energy to make it clean ).

it’s better for the planet to pee in the shower.

Several people peeing in the dunny and leaving it to sit fucking STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN. Please remember that "room temperature" is about 35°c all year round, where I live. Peeing in the shower is a none event. It all just washes down the drain. Can't see the issue at all.

QuestionableMouse · 25/09/2022 12:26

I usually have more in here but I've got a wash on! 😂

DWMoosmum · 25/09/2022 12:28

You certainly don't want to know about 'waffle stomping' then! And no, I don't!

DonnaBanana · 25/09/2022 12:29

I don’t have a hygienic problem with it but I’ve tried before and it just feels weird and very unnatural like you’re forcing yourself to wee yourself. Using a toilet is such an ingrained habit it feels wrong otherwise so no.

Noteverybodylives · 25/09/2022 12:31

When you wash your bits, it helps flush out your tubes.

No it definitely doesn’t!

Whoever told you this is either a liar or was joking with you.

It’s quite dangerous to have sex in the water as if any water gets in your tubes you can get infections etc.

I have hands. 🤷‍♀️

Wonder why the OP hasn't come back? 🤔

Wtf?!

MN is batshit sometimes

Noteverybodylives · 25/09/2022 12:34

No one should pee in the shower for the simple fact that your brain associates water with peeing.

If you allow yourself to pee in the shower you’ll soon be at risk of peeing yourself when washing your hands or walking anywhere with running water.

And you may become like Ainsley Harriet who says he always wees in the bath 😂😂

It’s much better to stop yourself peeing in the shower so you can mentally train yourself not to need a wee near running water.

I wee in the shower, I think it's fine. I have my own washing puff thingy and the kids have their own sponges, DH uses a flannel if he can be bothered. Not that I really see why that's relevant either? I'm not peeing ON the sponge...

But weeing in a swimming pool is rank. Even my two year old asks to be taken to the toilet if she needs it while we are swimming.

Alondra · 25/09/2022 12:35

I've always peed in the shower if I need to, and I think is the same for DH and kids. There is no much difference with peeing in a toilet, there is water running and a drain.

We've never shared sponges or shower scrunchies. We each have our own.

Noteverybodylives · 25/09/2022 12:35

@RustyShackleford3 I’m not sure if your talking about me or the PP.

I’ll assume it’s the PP as common sense or a quick Google will tell you otherwise.

Mouk · 25/09/2022 12:37

Peeing in the shower is fine.

Sharing a flannel etc, is not.

YABU for calling genitals "winky bits"!!

gretr · 25/09/2022 12:38

You’re washing your body, so there will be dead skin, traces of faecal matter, possibly blood if you cut yourself shaving. Urine, which will be followed by soap and water running down after, is the least of worries if you’re that squeamish.
