To say it OK to pee in the shower?

GingerNutMe · 25/09/2022 10:13

So the question is, is it OK to pee whilst in the shower - proviso being you ensure you have washed everything away properly. The topic of conversation came up relating way back to one of the Big Brother series where someone admitted to regularly peeing in the shower.

One logic was 'well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits' ..........

I share a sponge with my partner and I'm happy to lay on the bed with my clothes on but I've never thought about having a wee in the shower

Mabelstearooms · 25/09/2022 11:18

@Cheeselog urine is sterile up until the point it leaves your body. It's hardly going to get contaminated with diseases and the like while travelling from your urethra to the shower floor that would render it unsterile.

Sh4rkAttack · 25/09/2022 11:21

Doesn't everyone piss in the shower?Best place to sort out a menstrual cup too.

No it just makes the shower harder to
Clean just pure in the toilet

How does it make the shower harder to clean?

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 25/09/2022 11:24

I honestly don’t understand why anyone would think this was gross or bad. It’s such a non-event.

What about menstrual blood going onto the shower floor/down the plughole. That’s arguably more disgusting than urine but none of us care about that! 🤷🏼‍♀️

No, it isn’t! It contains bacteria from your bladder even before it leaves your body. For example, jcm.asm.org/content/50/4/1376

Kateandherbush · 25/09/2022 10:28

Surely everyone does this sometimes? It’s just urine and is being flushed away with gallons of shower water..

Sharing 1 face cloth / flannel is pretty grim and unnecessary though.

No, they really don't. It's disgusting.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 25/09/2022 11:28

I pee in the shower all the time. Why would I get out of the shower just to go to for a wee?!

Come on @GingerNutMe are you not joining in? 🤔

Sunshineandflipflops · 25/09/2022 11:30

No. I go to the toilet before I get in the shower…it’s right in the same room. I have my own shower too and still wouldn’t want to pee in it.

ReviewingTheSituation · 25/09/2022 11:31

Every time this (the peeing thing, not the shared flannel, which is grim) is raised on MN, loads of people proclaim it's an abomination etc etc, but I've never seen a compelling reason WHY it is apparently so awful. You wash mud*, dirt and sweat off your skin in the shower (not every time, obvs, but I've just come back from a trail run and will be doing this), you shave your legs and all the hair and skin cells from that go down the drain. You wash your hair, which could be full of product etc. So what on earth is wrong with urine going down the drain?

floppybit · 25/09/2022 11:31

I will happily wee in the shower, it's fine!

No, most families do not use a communal sponge/flannel etc. That's utterly, utterly grim.

One compelling reason is that it can train your bladder to feel like releasing urine when you hear running water. Straight from my urologist.

Thelnebriati · 25/09/2022 11:35

This. Its no different than menstrual blood; and it all goes down the same drain anyway.

Fizbosshoes · 25/09/2022 11:35

A lot of MN can't deal with any sort of bodily functions and their DH/visitors/tradespeople are required to leave the house/town to pass wind or go for a poo, so I can't imagine that weeing in the shower is OK!!

Fwiw I've never wee'd in the shower, neither do I share flannels/sponges or towels with other family members but I don't think I'd be all that fussed if anyone else had weed in the shower (assuming they were actually having a shower and not just using it instead of the toilet!)

Berlinlover · 25/09/2022 11:36

I’m completely astonished that people think it’s acceptable to pee in the shower. I wouldn’t dream of doing that and I live alone.

LT2 · 25/09/2022 11:37

do most families share sponges, flannels?🤨

I don't like the idea of peeing in the shower! Probably not a whole lot wrong with it but I can imagine some urine splashing upwards. There's a specific place designed for urination.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 25/09/2022 11:37

I am very lax about cleanliness compared to most people I know and as a lifelong bedwetter and someone who works with disabled young people who aren’t toilet trained and often have behaviours like smearing etc I am usually very relaxed about pee/ bodily fluids but oddly enough peeing in the shower feels like a no-go to me, I never do it and don’t like the idea of anybody else doing it in a shower I’m using either.

piegone · 25/09/2022 11:37

I have bladder issues which mean I sometimes piss my pants, doing it in the shower is nothing.

canyouextrapol · 25/09/2022 11:38

Wee is usually sterile. It's not full of germs. Couldn't get worked up about it.

TinaWeymouthsBass · 25/09/2022 11:38

A family friend is an eminent urologist in a teaching hospital and he always advises his female patients to pee standing when they can because it completely empties the bladder compared to sitting which apparently doesn't! Anecdotally he said that women who empty their bladder first thing in the shower are less likely to have recurring UTIs.

MarsupiIami · 25/09/2022 11:38

I just wee before going in the shower.

I'm not sure menstrual fluid is "more disgusting" Hmm
