To ask you to think twice about eating chicken regularly

...it's just not sustainable for us to consume as much as we do.

Intensive chicken farming is polluting and destroying our rivers and also potentially causing breathing difficulties and lung issues in those who live near farms spraying chicken / other animal manure as fertilizer.

Really worrying too, at a time when govt are ripping up EU regs on environmental laws that will further destroy our rivers and the animals, plants and people that rely on them (along with the shit already pumped into them...).

Honestly what horrifies me more than people eating meat is people wasting it.

My aunt regularly does a roast chicken dinner. Two weeks running I've wandered into her kitchen, reminded her to put the chicken in the fridge and been told "Oh that's leftovers to be binned" and "I don't like the smell of cold chicken and its only £3 anyway".

I took one of them off her because it hadn't been out too long and I hate the waste. Half a chicken there was there, but it's cheaper to buy than breasts so she doesn't care what she chucks.

I agree. getting a couple of meals out of a roast chicken would reduce the amount of chickens bred so this would be a massive plus.

I tend not to buy it but I did try fake chicken pieces from m and s in the stir fry section recently. They were very nice especially with soy sauce

So are Pot noodles, I have to chuck half a bottle of soy sauce in there to make it palatable a bit like your fake chicken 😂😂😂

Newgirls · 04/10/2022 16:02

oh another delightful poster. Chicken is bland. Especially cheap factory chicken. 😂😂😂😂

Zero why did you open this thread? To be goady? To share ideas for eating less meat? To laugh at other people?

But why? I didn’t ask about when.

I see the not chicken stuff as transitional. It certainly seems to be gaining shelf space.

I tend not to buy it but I did try fake chicken pieces from m and s in the stir fry section recently. They were very nice especially with soy sauce. Their veggie sausages are nice too. For lazy days!

This. So I use that stuff for the kids. So if I make them a chicken burger with a chicken quorn burger they can't taste the difference. The same with Richmond sausages (they actually prefer the vegan versions because there is no chance of gristle!). But for the remainder of our meals we don't use substitute meat at all because we have a huge amount of delicious recipes that don't require it.

Fake meat isn't particularly healthy. And it tastes revolting.

Well quite. And if you don't like the idea of eating meat for moral reasons, it still seems ethically dodgy to me to like eating something that tastes and feels like meat.

You are right and I am guilty of this because I don't like cold chicken. Fortunately my husband does and will eat it in sandwiches when we've had a roast dinner, so we don't tend to waste any.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/10/2022 17:47

Well I don't have a problem with chicken leftovers, my 2 labs like chicken.

What fucked up logic is this? Some people who don't want to eat animals for cruelty and environmental reasons, not because they don't like the taste, and like processed crap, will choose to eat chicken nugget/sausages that taste like the meat versions but without the cruelty and environmental impact.

You can't have any sense of logic if you can't grasp this? Maybe you need more veggies!

You sound hangry! Maybe a chicken nugget or a nice rare fillet steak could help with that.

Why?

Where does it say that vegetarians and vegans are only allowed to eat rice/bean combos for their protein, and not meat substitutes.

Why it is ethically dodgy to want a meat free version of a burger or sausage that you can still have in a bap/roll?

Becgoz7 · 22/03/2023 18:13

You are being unreasonable. I will carry on eating plenty of meat and chicken thanks 👍
