To ask you to think twice about eating chicken regularly

...it's just not sustainable for us to consume as much as we do.

Intensive chicken farming is polluting and destroying our rivers and also potentially causing breathing difficulties and lung issues in those who live near farms spraying chicken / other animal manure as fertilizer.

Really worrying too, at a time when govt are ripping up EU regs on environmental laws that will further destroy our rivers and the animals, plants and people that rely on them (along with the shit already pumped into them...).

It? That's quite rude. Not everybody has the same opinion on things. A very childish way to respond to disagreement and conflict. Isn't it.

@ZeroFuchsGiven @Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious

do you really not care about the awful suffering they have to go through so that you can needlessly eat chicken three times a week plus every week?!

sooo many other foods you could be eating (which don’t mean you have to eat fake meat), if you could reduce your chicken consumption to once a week that would help loads

I dont want to, no.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 29/09/2022 12:33

And I am not NEEDLESSLY eating chicken, I am feeding my family!

I bet they all love their dogs though

well there's a whole other debate to be had about whether having pets is ethical.

There really is

it can’t be right that we breed the same species (cockapoos…) repeatedly and then keep them apart from their own breed. To suit human desire again. They are lovely though and understand the human benefits. Maybe people need to spend more time with other humans rather than dogs. A whole philosophical issue.

let along dog food industry

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 12:47

I'm somewhat meh about inflicting life style choices on children. They can decide as educated adults

Newgirls · 29/09/2022 12:48

Tabbouleh · 29/09/2022 09:53

It's difficult to change childhood eating habits. I am veggie mostly because I was raised veggie, so I eat vegetables, lentils and eggs rather than fake meat. I have tried meat but dislike the texture and taste. I can imagine that it is the same for people raised eating meat and trying to switch to lentils.

Yes very true. We eat and buy what we are conditioned to - plus advertising. Teens tend to become veggie when they feel old enough to follow their own preferences. I find younger kids don’t tend to think of the food on their plate as once being a living creature.

you can feed your family other stuff, no one needs to have meat in every single dinner

but well i mean at least you’re honest Hun 🤷‍♀️

DuckBilledFattypus · 29/09/2022 12:53

People can feed their families what they want. It's up to them to decide.

Just a reminder that we are now entering the prime of British lamb season.

British lamb will mostly be grass fed and raised almost entirely outdoors for its entire life.

if you want high quality, sustainable, low mileage protein then choose British lamb.

Shepherds pie for lunch anyone?

Agree with this.

I haven’t eaten chicken in awhile as I prefer to choose high welfare organic and that is way too much money for me now.

I'd love more tips on eating more vegan meals but not ultra processed fake meat.

But I'm scared to ask because threads like these are literally terrifying!

Rummikub · 29/09/2022 13:12

@CollieWobble22 I think look at cultures where vegetarian/ vegan is common.

Eg Indian vegetarian food doesn’t include eggs. And it’s easy to swap ghee for oil or not add yoghurt. Vegan yoghurt tastes the same.

Says the one who seems to be enjoying trying to upset others with silly answers.

I have no issue with someone having a different opinion to me. I don’t eat animal products and my partner of 20 years does. He doesn’t act like a silly child about it though.

Nearly all Indian meals. Lots of Asian cuisine: Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Thai minus fish sauce.... Mediterrean, Mexican also have meals that can be adapted to be vegan perhaps ( though I am not vegan).

There’s a vegan board on mumsnet with people that would be happy to help with meal ideas or recommend good recipe books. It’s very civilised over there. 😉

Rummikub · 29/09/2022 13:22

i use tinned green lentils as a substitute for meat in things like shepherds pie, spag bol, chilli.

Eylis · 29/09/2022 13:25

No thanks.

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 13:26

I live in Wales our Welsh lamb is so expensive £26 per kilo. It annoys me that protestors outside supermarket here meant they won't sell New Zealand lamb anymore. Which as well as being cheaper tastes better. Especially early lamb which have lived mostly on nuts rather than grass etc. Chicken used to be an expensive treat when I was a child now it's Welsh lamb and Welsh beef

I think people with attitudes towards animals like Fatty are best ignored. Most meat eaters I know do say they care about animals and don’t like to think that they suffer. I don’t come across many people that say they don’t care about the animals at all. I think that sort of attitude is a bit psychopathic or probably more likely just attention seeking.

Welfare standards for farm animals in the UK are pretty good. And as I see farm animals as food, then I don't see the problem here. Plenty of meat eaters in the UK who clearly see it the same way. It hardly makes me psychopathic or attention seeking to have take that postion. There's some very rude posters on here today. Veganism seems to bring out the worst in some people.
