There were signs everywhere telling you to keep your dog on a lead. Me and my daughters (3 and 1 year old) were trying to enjoy exploring the dens when your dog came pelting towards us and jumped in our faces. They were terrified, and we were cornered by him and all I could do was grab them close to me. My husband then had to get him away from us, as you didn't seem too bothered about controlling him. No apology, nothing except having a go at my husband for shouting at your dog. If you can't control your animal, don't have one, and definitely don't let them off the lead. I'm sick of having to fend off dogs from my kids who are scared of them and never want to have them in their face, 'friendly' or otherwise. Rant over!

Not batshit at all 🙄

It wasn't a serious suggestion..

And whats with the overuse on "batshit" round here? No one uses it IRL.

@ThighMistress not me, the dog came into the den, didn't go past us! Plus it wasn't me shouting and screaming, DH was the one who told her to get her dog on the lead!

What an odd post.

Seriously? We have posters offended by a relative wanting to hold their baby, or posters who can't open the door to an unannounced guest plus many other completely random things & you find this odd?

So are dogs allowed to be off lead in the area you were in?

Yes because her first post is directed at the actual women like she’s going to see it.

Plenty of other people have said the same too.

@bellac11 should have been on leads. Signs all over stating this.

All the picky mumsnetters are out today.

It doesnt matter where Holly Hill is. It doesnt matter if that lady reads it or not because there are plenty of other irresponsible dog owners who will. It's irrelevant if you're scared of dogs. It's against the spirit of the site, in my opinion, to pick apart posts and assume they are grossly exaggerating, especially when dogs jump up onto people every day.

Out of control dogs, around children, in an area that explicitly says dogs should be on leads, where you were minding your own business is not ok. If someone cant stop their dog jumping up at others then it should be ok a lead.

My aunt was recently knocked over by a 'friendly' dog at the park while she was just walking along the path. She could easily have broken something. The owner didnt give a shit

Even if she had broken something the dog owners would have some excuse about her not behaving in the right way around their precious animal and they are above any kind of signs or laws because they are so much more precious than any other living human beings. Some dog owners really are just selfish cunts.

A dog ran up to my friends toddler & swiped the sandwich out of his hand in the non dog area of a local park. I won't tell you how I reacted...

🤣🤣🤣

OP, your children are scared of dogs because of your over-reaction every time you see one.

I am on your side Butterfly. Nothing wrong with posting on here, at all. And it most definitely should NOT have happened.
Dogs can do damage so easily, without even intending to, and your little ones are very small x
Too many on here wanting to get their superiority rocks off!

YABU posting here but I agree with what you have said, there are too many “oh he’s fine” brigade. Maybe he is, but I don’t want him jumping over me or my daughter, so put the dog on a lead.

I’d have been angry about that too and would probably hung it on a nearby branch by the collar out of the owner’s reach.

This. So tired of stinky dogs (yes, your dog does smell and so does the house you keep it in) and their gormless owners.

Well having looked the place up finally and worked out its not a city in Florida, a pub or a school that you're talking about it does say that dogs MUST be on leads around the lakes but elsewhere 'under control'

That doesnt mean leads but of course if under control you might expect them not to come running toward someone else. Having said that, you do sound like you're overreacting and spreading that fear to your daughters. I hope not.

OP, your children are scared of dogs because of your over-reaction every time you see one.

They're scared because of inconsiderate twats who won't control their dogs. If they controlled their dogs the OP wouldn't need to react. I'm a dog owner and I'd certainly react if a big dog came bounding up to me , jumped up and had to be hauled off.
