For wanting to do a Ouija board for a laugh?

EbbyEbs · 24/09/2022 08:25

Next year DH and I are staying in a castle thought to be the most haunted in Britain. DH says he doesn’t believe in stuff like that, I’m on the fence really but more towards not believing. I think the most likely scenario if ghosts ARE real is that they’re historical residue and not intelligent entities. But even that is a stretch.

So, I’d like to do a ouija board when we’re there for a laugh. The castle is in the middle of nowhere so there isn’t much else to do on an evening other than drink (which I don’t do) and watch Netflix!

DH is point blank refusing saying he isn’t messing about with stuff like that. But he’s a non believer??! So what’s the harm?

If he doesn’t believe in it, am I being unreasonable to ask him to do it?

Heck yes, doing Ouija in a haunted castle would be a laugh. It's a very appropriate activity for the situation.

Of course, a Ouija board doesn't really do anything, and Chillingham isn't really haunted, but I'm guessing that going with the spooky flow is part of why you're going there, OP.

I don’t give a flying rats arse if you think it’s unsubstantiated because you don’t know me and I don’t know you and we are talking on an Internet forum
it happened to me and it happened to my daughter . Just because it did not happen to you does not mean it did not exist and it does not make you superior either. Small minded people like you will do their best to make others feel small for their experiences just because you haven’t seen it for yourself..or have evidence of it.
There are plenty of experiences people have had and evidence for it which cannot be explained if you bothered to take a look ..but I guess you’re so stuck in your ways you wouldn’t even try. Do you honestly think I wanted something like this to happen to me and my daughter? I would rather it didn’t and I would rather be a sceptical as you unfortunately that’s not the case anymore.
Do you question scientists about The Big Bang Theory even though it’s a theory and no recorded evidence it happened? ( It’s a fact that it is still a theory) I have no time for people like you

I believe you. I have had experiences personally which are inexplicable, and on one occasion have felt a sensation of what I can only describe as concentrated evil and pure terror, in full daylight and in a busy place. I couldn't get out quickly enough!

I am a licensed minister in the C of E and have also heard a number of accounts of similar experiences from people that I know are grounded, down-to-earth and thoroughly sensible (and sceptical).

There is much more in this world than we are aware of.

I stayed at chillingham castle, there was enough spooky activity to keep us on our toes without using a ouji board.
The ghost walk was good too...

Chillingham was definitely haunted when I stayed there!

Can you tell me what happened and what room you stayed in?

We stayed in one of the coach houses, can't remember name or number of it but lots of steps walking up, it was on first floor.
One bedroom very creepy, none of us wanted to sleep in there.
Chess board pieces moved randomly on the window sill , my jewellery moved in the night, I'd put it on the bench and it was on a different table in morning. I felt something touch my feet in the night...although that could have been subconscious

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 27/09/2022 22:19

Maybe they employ “ghosts” to make the experience more authentic!

I used to do this with my best mate when we were teens. I can confirm we're both still alive.

We only have your word for it that you aren't dead.

Any random on the internet can claim to be alive. How do we know it's true? Have you been checked by scientists under laboratory conditions?

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 27/09/2022 22:28

I also did it as a teen with friends. The result was disappointing.
I also tried that writing… what do you call it… when you hold a pen and hope a spirit takes over and writes something. You’ll be astonished to learn that that didn’t work either!

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 27/09/2022 22:30

I never successfully foretold anyone’s future with tarot cards either.

Emotionalsupportviper · 27/09/2022 22:33

The Ouija board has an objective reality that exists apart from a person’s perception of it. In other words, it’s real even if you don’t believe in it.

Like Sweden.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 27/09/2022 22:46

Nah, Sweden and ouija boards definitely exist. And a further similarity is that neither is responsible for the unleashing of evil. Then again, Sweden is swinging more to the right now, so

That’s the room I’ve booked! 😬 I’ve read it’s one of the best ones for weird stuff happening.

The last two times we stayed in the Grey Apartment. Not much happened the first time other than a weird loud bang in the bedroom and an ornament turning around by itself on the window ledge (in front of us!)

the second time we stayed nothing happened for 2 nights but the 3rd night there was an awful atmosphere in the room, we both felt uneasy. There were dead flies all over the window ledge in the main bedroom then as I went to bed the wardrobe door opened slowly by itself. DH walked in just as it was happening so he couldn’t accuse me of lying or setting it up! He jammed it shut and the bloody thing kept rattling all night as if someone was trying to open it. DH wanted to leave at 2am 😂 but of course, he doesn’t believe in ghosts … he wanted to leave because the room smelled too much 🙄😂

Oh no I’m never bored at Chillingham! I like to go off exploring the grounds but DH likes to stay in once it gets dark 🙄 I went off exploring parts of the castle on my own last time - sat in the dungeon for 5 minutes at midnight in the pitch black darkness hoping to experience something (as apparently nobody has managed longer than 3 minutes). Nothing happened

I’m actually going to be there overnight at Halloween and I’m quite looking forward to it but I didn’t realise you could poke around after hours!

(btw am at best a sceptic and certainly don’t have any truck with ouija, psychics etc but do love a good ghost story or a dramatic scare)

It depends what room you’re staying in? If you’re in the Grey for instance the only way you can get to it is by going through the castle so you get the key to the castle door - you can only get into part of it though, the rest of it is closed off but you can do what you want in the dungeon and the room adjoining it. You can also sit in the spooky courtyard at any point in the night! I loved sitting out there on my own in the dark. It will be cold though when you go so take a good hoody

But for some reason known only to themselves the non-believers want to push their point of view rather aggressively.

To me, it’s like trying to debate with a flat-earther.

You start of thinking explaining something will get through the fog, but then you just have to give up.

That's it in a nutshell. It is so hard to not get frustrated when you simply cannot get it through to someone that the earth is round(ish), Elvis is dead, lizards don't rule the world, there's no global reset being planned, bill gates isn't microchipping us, the dead don't yeet shit across a room and nor are they trying to talk to you through a stupid board.

Ebbyebs, keep us updated, definitely keep an eye on the chessboard. The far bedroom at bottom of corridor was the one that had an awful feeling. We went over 10 years ago so it might have changed, keep us updated, id love to go back

Sorry thought this post was from someone else who had stayed 😂 I’m trying to catch up with the rest of the thread - I gave up on it after everyone started arguing

but yeah, I’ll report back ☺️ I do hope the chess board is still there as I like a game of chess

I am curious as to why some people fell the need to ry so hard to convert others to their way of thinking?
Do they feel threatened by their viewpoints?

A curious mind is a wonderful thing that will enjoy reading all the scientific links that were posted earlier.

There are many reasons not to encourage people to disregard evidence-based knowledge or to believe that evil spirits can come through a piece of cardboard and harm you. Feeling personally threatened has never been among them for me and I'd be curious as to why someone might want to think that.
