To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

I have never worn PJs all day, I WFH, have own business. I like to look smart even when I am relaxing, not necessarily formal clothing, not quite lounge clothing either. I wear something comfortable and nice for the whole day and evening. I don't actually own PJs. I wear exercise clothing to work out daily, then shower and change. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing them all day.

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 15:55

"It's 1950s to suggest anyone shouldn't wear something because of what their husband will think."

If you go to the shops or to see friends, presumably you get dressed, otherwise they would think you were lazy and a scruffy, so what is the difference?

SouperNoodle · 23/09/2022 15:55

YANBU
jeans come off as soon as I walk through the door and PJs on

Dogtooth · 23/09/2022 15:55

I'd feel slobby and disgusting if I sat around in nightwear the whole time, not to mention cold. Don't know how people can feel self respect when they basically need to be dressed in babygros the whole time.

But each to her own.

FrecklesMalone · 23/09/2022 15:49

I am in and out all day and eve. Very rarely come home and then don't go out.

That makes sense, I usually change clothes when I have no other plans for the evening, I like to do all my "out and about stuff" all at the same time but every one is different 😊

People that wear old pyjamas all day - do your husbands never tell you they are tired of seeing you mooching about like a scruffy and to make a bit of effort?

Not if he wants his balls to remain attached.

Seriously though, enjoying spending time in PJs or whatever comfie clothes you like doesn't make you slobby, or lazy, or dirty! Most people are saying they CHANGE into them once the day is done, or if they have a lazy day, not that they live in them 24/7. God forbid my husband sees me in the evening in a set of PJs after a long day. I'm not here as his trophy wife.

Calandor · 23/09/2022 15:59

I'm the same as you OP except I wear 'loungewear' (gym gear or joggers) so I can pretend they're not pyjamas in disguise

Topgub · 23/09/2022 15:59

@Dogtooth

Is your self respect completely dependent on your clothing?!

Might want to work on that.

Nowheretoogo · 23/09/2022 15:59

exactly the same in our household op!

FictionalCharacter · 23/09/2022 16:00

You think that people who don't like / do the same things as you are weird?

millymog11 · 23/09/2022 16:01

Not read the whole thread.
Don't object to changing into pyjamas as soon as you get in the house from work/going out.
The only problem with this is, do you do a further change into a different set of PJs before you go to sleep? If not, and you skip that because you are "already" in PJs then what other rituals do you do to switch your brain from day to sleep?

Who's wearing babygros?

Do you not know what lounge wear is? It is basically joggers and a top. Some people can look pretty OK in this.

Nowheretoogo · 23/09/2022 16:02

Not pj’s though but lounge wear.

Blackmetalmama · 23/09/2022 16:02

Why on earth do people care if the Hermes delivery driver sees you in some PJs. Heaven forbid- imagine the horror 😆

SquirrelFan · 23/09/2022 16:02

PJs and nighties are for bed, and if you're ill.
Shoes off house (I hate cleaning the floor, so this lengthens the time between washes).
Keep day clothes on (professional dress on weekdays, jeans or skirts at the weekend) unless as pps have noted, it's an especially dressy day at work.
Don't clean or do many chores during the week, just cook dinner, and an apron is usually sufficient to keep my work things clean.

JOFFCV · 23/09/2022 16:04

Do people still wear nighties?

Xmasbaby11 · 23/09/2022 16:07

My everyday clothes are comfy enough so I don't need to change into loungewear, unless I was having a particularly smart day at work, which is rare. I guess as well I pop out often (eg shop, school run, kids' activities) so wouldn't want to keep changing during the day. Also we often have people over - friends or family. So I would always look presentable until I shower at about 9pm and put my pjs on. I don't think pjs are daytime wear - same for me and the kids! We might lounge a bit in the morning at the weekend but basically we're dressed when we're up.

My MIL does, with maribou slippers. I wonder where they lie on the slobby-to-fancy continuum? 🤔

BunsyGirl · 23/09/2022 16:08

I WFH so wear joggers and a sweatshirt in the cooler months and a loose dress when it’s warm. DH changes into shorts/joggers as soon as he returns home. My DCs pull off their uniform as soon as they get back from school. The younger one usually just wears his pants. The older one changes into sportswear.

😂No idea.

squashyhat · 23/09/2022 16:13

IANBU to say the word 'comfy' should be banished from the English language.

Doingprettywellthanks · 23/09/2022 16:18

When you don’t go out for the day….

how often does that happen? Aside from when ill, I can’t remember last time I ever had a day where I didn’t go out once. Whether work or pick up children or shop or errands or meeting friend or if nothing like aforementioned needed… just a walk for fresh air!

QuizzlyBears · 23/09/2022 16:19

I wear suits for work and so when I come home I change into jeans/t shirt or yoga pants/t shirt depending on what I’m doing, will get dressed again to go back out - not a suit if not working but something less casual than yoga pants. I sleep in underwear and have robes for the morning. Pyjamas are for sick days! I’d feel slobby wearing them generally and - as 1950s as it might sound! - I do like making an effort for my partner in terms of being clean/put together/hair etc.

Dogtooth · 23/09/2022 16:19

@Topgub my self respect isn't depedent on clothing - I guess I see PJ's as signalling that my brain can relax and wind down for sleep. If you do that all day then you're floating through life mindlessly. I want to be alert during the day and a certain type of clothing goes along with that for me.

@JOFFCV lounge clothes and PJ's are basically without fastenings and tight bits, like baby clothes, they're designed to be comfortable when lying down a lot.

Mindmyown · 23/09/2022 16:20

TwinkleChristmas · 23/09/2022 15:29

I don’t wear pjs indoors 24/7 as I’m not a slob.

Nobody said 24/7 though ... and how am I, or anyone for that matter, a slob for changing into something comfy to relax for the evening? I think that's rather insulting, I keep a clean house and like to do laundry everyday otherwise it piles up (family of 5) so whatever clothes I was wearing just go in the wash the same evening. If I'm at home all day I'll wear comfy clothes to do chores or messy play with the kids, so I don't worry about spoiling my regular clothes.
I wash kids uniforms most evenings, they have two sets each so I keep them in rotation ... my kids love there comfy pj's so they change into them when they get home ... if they head out to play on there swings they put on joggers and usually there wellies as my garden get really muddy after rain, their nice clothes are then safe & don't get ruined.
And as I said in a previous reply some loungewear sets are lovely and not at all "slobbish" looking.... I'm all for people disagreeing with me and saying I'm the weird one because like I said I grew up in a home where it wasn't seen as acceptable, I won't get offended... it's just meant as a fun, non political post.

However, I don't think there's any need to be insulting to people, you have no idea if some one who is struggling to get dressed each day due to mental illness/depression is reading. Plenty of new mums feel awful about wearing loungewear/pj's all day and feel like failures. Please be mindful, if you think I'm weird then say so, but please leave insults like "slob" out of it.
