To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

I wfh and often wear pj bottoms, I put clean ones on and then a normal top but I wear them like comfy joggers. I love getting into comfy clothes when I get in, my kids and husband change as soon as they get in but they put normal casual clothes on not pjs. It's just me in the pjs!

JOFFCV · 23/09/2022 16:24

People who say they wear comfy clothes every day, don't you ever get dressed up?

I wear blazers, shirts, skirts etc that wouldn't be that comfy (sorry @squashyhat ) for watching a movie in.

I mean if you wear stretchy clothes 224/7 then there is no need to change.

My clothes fit me as well before I get accused of squeezing myself into an 8 whilst I'm clearly a 14.

JOFFCV · 23/09/2022 16:24

24/7 even

speakout · 23/09/2022 16:25

I hear you OP.
But lounge/yoga wear rather than pjs.
That way I can pop out again if necessary.
I put pjs on for bed.

I need my comfies around the house, plus it means my smarter clothes last longer.

Think this depends on the lounge wear, I've got some very nice sets that dp loves ... I'd agree if I was running round in scruffy old oversized clothes all week.. but my pj's and longewear is usually light jogger style bottoms and form fitting stretchy tank tops, with a light long cardigan, so it's perfectly acceptable and put together just very comfy material ... plus I buy new ones regularly.

Bit different from impression conveyed in your op then yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

@Topgub my self respect isn't depedent on clothing - I guess I see PJ's as signalling that my brain can relax and wind down for sleep. If you do that all day then you're floating through life mindlessly. I want to be alert during the day and a certain type of clothing goes along with that for me.

@JOFFCV lounge clothes and PJ's are basically without fastenings and tight bits, like baby clothes, they're designed to be comfortable when lying down a lot.

I used to adult study in my lounge wear and passed all my courses so that makes no sense.

slowquickstep · 23/09/2022 16:29

Everyone i know thinks i am strange. If i go into town shopping or for an appointment i wear my "day" going out clothes, i come home and change into my "home" clothes ( leggings, t shirt, hoodie) 6 P.M i change into my pyjamas, come bedtime i change into a nightie.

JOFFCV · 23/09/2022 16:29

I didn't have to sit in full office wear whilst I home study just to motivate myself.

TimeOfRiley · 23/09/2022 16:29

I think there is a lot of judgement on this thread! I'm not new to mumsnet so it's not surprising. I wear pjs a lot at home, or soft loungewear. I have autism and it's a sensory thing with clothing - and this can be the case with a lot of people on the spectrum. I don't feel comfortable with a lot of materials/seams/zips... I like soft loose clothing to relax in. I'm a manager so I have to dress formally at work although do wear certain materials a lot more than others. I don't wear jeans at all really. I like hearing all the different opinions, but I don't know why we have to say judgemental things about other people's choices. Like the comments about wearing pjs all day being disgusting? or the Babygro comment? What's all that about anyway?

Twillow · 23/09/2022 16:29

YABU. I don't want to slouch around my home like some saggy, scruffy invalid. The clothes I wear in normal life are 'comfortable', even my jeans are comfortable. I also like to be able to pop out again, or open the door to visitors, without getting re-dressed.

That makes sense, I usually change clothes when I have no other plans for the evening, I like to do all my "out and about stuff" all at the same time but every one is different 😊

Often not possible with kids though? Clubs, matches etc

Bordesleyhills · 23/09/2022 16:35

Pjs are for bed and if I’m ill but then I have to go out - horses and dogs and I would get odd looks in my pjs although if lots of snow or frost I have popped layers over and done horses but that’s on my property

i have a horrible issue with seams!

MoonahSton · 23/09/2022 16:39

I sometimes feel like the only person on the planet who loathes pjs. They're not comfortable at all - they ride up and twist about. When I've tried them in the past, I'm always fidgeting about rearranging the damn things. They're also thin so I get cold.
I much prefer wearing clothes. I'm working from home today and am happily in jeans and a tshirt and slippers. Perfect!
If I'm in the office, I'll change out of my work clothes when I get home but into the sort of thing I'm wearing at the moment. I don't have specific clothes for slobbing about at home in, bar one top that I got bleach on so I wear that when I'm cleaning.

I just read over my original post & I didn't see any inconsistencies but then I realised that everyone has a different "vision" in their head of what "comfy" clothes (pj's or lounge wear) look like, don't they? ... thats actually so interesting. I honestly believe the best thing to come out of lockdown was stylish loungewear.

What do you class as "dressed up"?
If I went to a wedding for example, I would still wear something that I didn't need to remove as soon as I got home because it was uncomfortable. The only thing I'd probably remove are the extra bits like jewellery I'd possibly wear which i wouldn't wear normally.

Something that fits and not stretchy. The sort of dress I would wear for a posh wedding would have to come off when I got home.

Also if an outfit costs a lot of money I wouldn't just sit on the sofa at home in.

I have got two dogs though so the thought of them touching my expensive clothes would worry me.

It's a good thing so that you don't have to if you don't want to 🤷‍♀️ lol, I never said people should change into different clothes at home, I just asked if you did or if you think I'm weird for doing so. It's really a very harmless thread topic, meant as a cheeky wee peek behind other people's front door at something quite insignificant.

Plus could you please refrain from insulting other people. Feeling comfier in one's own home wearing pj's/lounge wear does not make anyone a "saggy, scruffy invalid" that's a truly disgusting view.

Like pp, I wear smart clothes to work, so change when I get home. I change into sweatshirt and jeans or joggers, but my jeans are comfortable. The only time I would wear pyjamas and dressing gown around the house would be if I was ill.
I know nowadays people wear pyjamas a lot more but that's their choice. That's not my choice, but they're not weird!

Handsnotwands · 23/09/2022 13:56

i don't actually own any pj's

Nor me and no one would welcome my 69 year old body wandering about starkers so I get dressed.

NormalNans · 23/09/2022 16:51

I wear leggings etc when I’m at home through the day but wouldn’t get changed when I get in from work if I was dressed more smartly. The only time I go straight up to change is if I’ve been out somewhere and thate more because I want to take make up off. I’m wondering how tight people’s jeans are if they’re not comfy to slob about in.

Well said, once again another thread that turns in to a horrible read, I’ve only been on MN a couple of years and the majority of threads now go like this one, a frustrating miserable read.
