To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

You are preaching to the choir with me! I LOOOOOVE my indoor clothes and have spent a fortune on them. It's all about the fabrics for me. Lovely unisex plaid brushed cotton bottoms, cotton tops, soft sheepskin, and oodles and oodles of cashmere and wool to wrap around me. That's my happy place.

I also love it as a look, which is probably a bit weird. I always think women on TV look better in hoodies and pyjamas and t-shirts, with their hair just artfully messy and the no make-up make-up look than all done up in dresses and heels.

Depends what the tv women are doing I suppose, news reading, walking the red carpet at the Oscars, chasing down criminals in a scandi noir, debating in Parliament ……. all probably call for something a bit less casual than “oodles and oodles of cashmere”.

Deadringer · 23/09/2022 15:09

I only wear comfortable clothes, in the house or out of it.

I think a lot of people don't realise that 'alot' isn't a word.

Yes! It’s everywhere. Also everyday.

drunkinthebackofthecar · 23/09/2022 15:04

I also have to ask the people who don’t own PJ’s - what do you wear if you stay with other people in their houses?

I just take my loungewear and put it on when I leave the bedroom. I can’t sleep wearing clothes, just can’t do it, even if ill, I’ll take an extra blanket but not clothes.

Summerfun54321 · 23/09/2022 14:32

I would fancy my husband a lot less if I constantly saw him in PJs rather than clothes. I’m pretty sure he’d feel the same. There’s something really unattractive about people slobbing around the house in stretch jersey all the time.

Think this depends on the lounge wear, I've got some very nice sets that dp loves ... I'd agree if I was running round in scruffy old oversized clothes all week.. but my pj's and longewear is usually light jogger style bottoms and form fitting stretchy tank tops, with a light long cardigan, so it's perfectly acceptable and put together just very comfy material ... plus I buy new ones regularly.

My oh would have a cheek to judge what I wear given he is constantly in his work clothes.

Or joggers and a t-shirt

Imagine being that obsessed by looks you can't even relax in your own house.

🤣

Sorry, I know it can be annoying when when you come across misspellings/grammar issues... I don't proof read, it's a bad habit.

@Topgub - I do think it's important to make an effort for your DH yes. Even if I was in all day and no contact with the outside world and it's people, I'd still be dressed and have washed hair and some make-up on if he's coming in. I don't like feeling a mess.

Does your DH dress, wash his hair and put make up on for when you arrive home from work?

Topgub · 23/09/2022 15:13

@hoovermanouvre

Shame you feel you'd look a less just as you are

🤷‍♀️

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/09/2022 15:15

I come back from work and change from my work pj's, to my home pj's.

No it's not a shame. No , my husband does not wear pjs 'around the house.'

Jan80 · 23/09/2022 15:17

Yep. I have old jammies that I use to do the cleaning, more luxurious loungewear to read/watch tv/go online and your bog-standard cute pyjamas for going to bed in. Your outdoor clothes last longer, and I get hayfever so it is best to change when you get home, and they don't have to have as many washes if I only get dressed properly when I am going out. I do hate answering the door in my old jammies, because they really do not look the best, and I'm usually hair scrapped back and sweating a bit... It is not a great look! But they only get binned when they fall apart because they are perfect for cleaning in.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 23/09/2022 15:18

YABU for putting "alot". It's not a word.

I would put on makeup but I wear a baggy night gown around the house. tbh it can probably pass as a day dress. Its something like this: www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350242539.aspx

tbh a lot of dresses marketed as day dresses look like this these days!

romdowa · 23/09/2022 15:20

Yanbu. I've to wonder at people who get dressed up day to day for their dp. My dp would think I'd lost my mind if he came home and I was sat on the couch all dolled up with make up and all dressed up 🤣

Oldrockingchair · 23/09/2022 15:03

Big judgment here. People who wear pjs unless it’s bedtime are in my eyes lazy & slovenly. I’m an up, running/dog walking, showered, dressed person by 9am even on weekends. I have people sitting around in bed clothes - urgh. It actually makes me feel a bit sick thinking about it!

Of course we all have our opinions

I am up at 6.30 every morning out with the animals and walking dogs. I then work in a formal setting and wear a uniform which is not comfortable as it has safety features included in it. Also working with animals it is not clean when I get home.

When I get home I take off my uniform and put on my exercise clothes and go for a run.

Then shower and put on pjs bottoms and a hoodie for the rest of the evening.

I may be but I dont think I am lazy and slovenly

ScarlettSunset · 23/09/2022 15:21

I don't understand why people would change. I'm perfectly comfortable in my normal day to day going out clothes. Including my bras - mine fit so well, I'm far more uncomfortable when I take them off!
And I don't have an extra load of clothes to wash either.

Sunbun19 · 23/09/2022 15:22

I'd feel grim wearing pj's all day

Guess we're all different

FriendlyHedgehog · 23/09/2022 15:25

I love being in comfy clothes on days off but HATE the fact that pretty much every time, I'll have to go out and do something (shop last minute, pick a child up from somewhere, go to the post office etc etc) which results in changing half way through the day into "proper clothes". Makes me wish I'd just started the day well-dressed.

theemmadilemma · 23/09/2022 15:26

Half and half. 😂

I wear jeans most days, and wfh, so I don't generally bother getting changed in the evenings Mon to Fri, just stay in my jeans (they aren't uncomfy as such).

But, Sat and Sun if we aren't going anywhere, and especially if I've been doing chores or gardening, then I like a shower and change in to comfy joggers for the evening.

I'm considering PJ's in bed this year, so my Mon-Fri routine might change a little.

Roomytrouser · 23/09/2022 15:28

I only own comfortable jeans. I can’t stand when DC2 puts on n pyjamas at 4pm in the afternoon. It’s such a statement of “I can be bothered to go out and get any fresh air/exercise again today”. I don’t mind jogging bottoms but they’re made to change if they put pyjamas on at that time.

Topgub · 23/09/2022 15:28

@Oldrockingchair

I am lazy. When I can be.

I have a busy, stressful life and an extremely stressful job.

I'm quite sure most days I'd put you to shame in work ethic/not being lazy.

Damn right I spend a lot of my time off 'lazing'

Love it.
