To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

I'm confused by this notion of jeans oy being uncomfortable if they are too small.

That's just not the case.

There's a reason they don't make sports wear, lounge wear pjs etc out of denim .

Mascia · 23/09/2022 17:44

Most of my jeans are perfectly comfortable, so I happily wear them at home.
Same goes for bras, I never understood the urge to take the bra off as soon as one gets home - they don’t bother me at all, in fact I feel uncomfortable without one.
I realised during the first lockdown that I don’t have any lounge/ home wear as such - but my everyday clothes are pretty comfortable 😀

@ofwarren

that must be really restrictive in terms of outfit choices, if you’ll only wear something that’s as comfy as pj’s

Not at all
I'm autistic though and there is not a chance I'm wearing uncomfortable restrictive material.
I'm always able to find something to wear if I need to go to a wedding or a funeral.

Some people have no need to dress up or wear formal clothes.

OlympicProcrastinator · 23/09/2022 18:16

My comfies aren’t pyjama’s so not a problem answering the door in them in the day but they are just more comfortable than my comfy jeans and jumpers. I also find it nice to have a shower when I get in from work and put on clean tracksuit bottoms and hoodie for indoor wear.

I’m another one that showers kids when they get in from school and put them in comfy indoor clothes rather than leave them in uniform.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/09/2022 18:19

😲that's a lot of money.

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 19:09

I think people who think jeans are uncomfortable are possibly just buying the wrong jeans? It's worth paying a bit more if at all possible to get very soft ones that suit your shape. Don't get jeans in that very thick scratchy denim. I can see how they'd uncomfortable. Or if you really don't like jeans, just wear a dress - far more comfortable than pyjamas.

Topgub · 23/09/2022 19:10

@hoovermanouvre

Or people can just wear the clothes they want especially in their own house?!

Last time I wore a dress was 20 yrs ago.

aramox1 · 23/09/2022 19:15

I don't wear uncomfortable clothes. And I find it depressing seeing the rest of the family in ugly trackies or sloppy pjs. Bras off, yes.

Mangogogogo · 23/09/2022 19:29

We don’t get chnaged til night time but I don’t think you’re weird?! I’m in and out too so would be pointless for me and I feel like it gets me ready for bed.

i have no opinion on bras because I have teeny tits so just wear a crop top or nothing. I imagine an underwired one hoisting up some boobies would be satisfying to remove though!

Bonjovispjs · 23/09/2022 19:52

Totally worth you OP, I'm always in PJs when I'm home, it's all about comfort and also, I don't have a washing machine, I have to go to the launderette so why dirty more clothes if I'm not going anywhere? 🤷🏻‍♀️

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 19:56

"Or people can just wear the clothes they want especially in their own house?!"

Well yes of course. But I have to say, I've never gone round to anyone's house on any day and they are in pyjamas. I don't know any woman who would be mooching in pyjamas when her husband gets in, as if she's in convalescence. Nor have I ever seen people on the streets or on supermarkets in pyjamas, as is claimed 'normal' on here. So god knows where you all live.

Herja · 23/09/2022 19:59

Oddly, I wear outside clothes when the kids are here, but lounge wear the whole day when they're not. I am not at all sure why - might be the simple factor of great laziness and already wearing clothes to do the school run. Only wear comfy clothing though - I am definitely someone who considers tracksuit bottoms and leggings as outside clothing. In fact, the smarter I am, the worse my mental health is (I worry about people noticing and judging then...); it's a sign people who know me well look out for. I change while they get ready for bed when the DC are here though, so 60% of the time, I am 'dressed' until about 8pm or there abouts. The rest I wear lounge wear, or my special day time pyjamas (fabrics or fit I would find uncomfortable to sleep in, like wool or satin etc.). I genuinely think it looks nicer than most 'proper' clothes too. I am definitely a slob by all MN standards though, and unashamedly too.

What friends do all you lot have, who you have to be dressed for?! Those sound like shit friends. Or just misnamed aquaintainces, perhaps. If I feel obliged to wear a bra, or be dressed, then you are absoutely not a friend! My friends will happily turn up in pyjamas and lounge wear to mine though - some even bring it to change in to for the evening.

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 20:00

Who even wears pyjamas in bed? Don't most adults just wear nothing? We do have duvets.

aintnothinbutagstring · 23/09/2022 20:01

No - I only wear PJs at bedtime. I have comfy jeans - am wearing them right now, they are quite stretchy and don't dig in anywhere but probably not the most stylish tbh. I prefer to wear a bra most of the time too so it only comes off at night. I guess I feel more motivated to do stuff when I'm more or less properly dressed. If I've been out to work then of course I'll change out of workwear but I might chuck on some leggings and a loose top.

I'ma guess I live somewhere much grottier than you... 😆.

Fun though. And probably less uptight. In any case, the local fights where people are in pyjamas/dressing gowns add a touch of comedy missing in a general street scrap. I bet you don't even have street fighting where you live either though, hoover.

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 20:11

Who is fighting in pyjamas? Is this Britain?

Perhaps most of us are not so young and daring as you.
And given the huge space taken up by nightwear in clothing stores the rest of us are a vanilla bunch too.

Topgub · 23/09/2022 20:17

@hoovermanouvre

You seem obsessed with people's hisbands getting in

Do you not work?

Why are you waiting about all day for your husband to get in?

Wibbly1008 · 23/09/2022 20:20

I’ve had work meetings on zoom where I wear a shirt with pyjama bottoms and slippers as no one can see . Happy days wfh!

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 20:25

I'm not daring, speakout. I'm in my 40s and quite boring.
To Topgub -no of course I'm not waiting all day. That's almost impossible. But if I'd been at work all day and I got in and he was not even dressed, it would feel a bit rude as in 'can't be bothered to make an effort for you. I'm a lazy dosser."

Hairbear2 · 23/09/2022 20:27

I will cook in my work clothes before they make the wash bin, when I’m it going out again my pjs are on.

Topgub · 23/09/2022 20:28

@hoovermanouvre

My dh doesn't own pjs. So he would be dressed.

I wouldnt care either way.

And I wouldnt care if he cared I wasn't dressed and thought I was a lazy dosser.
