Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

You're being really OTT there, sorry.

He was feeling rough, bless him. Plus, germs get onto your bed via your hair, which comes with you everywhere you go.

Maybe have a think about whether you have issues with anxiety around cleanliness?

You hope! 😁

I'm not bothered about the wiping down. I'm more bothered about the right moment to look away when she comes at me with that needle.

Thegroaninggurner · 23/09/2022 12:27

God help you if you had some real problems!!! Your poor fella!

OhGingleBells · 23/09/2022 12:21

You are right!! I don’t sit or lay on my bed (or let anyone else!) unless wearing nightclothes! Or if wrapped in a clean towel/bathrobe 😉

I’d forgive him (and wash the bedlinen asap) this time - but it’s gross.

Absolutely off the wall, barmy, madder than a box of frogs, off yer tits mental.

Honestly what complete and utter unnecessary ridiculousness. You don't SIT on your bed unless you have nightclothes on or a robe? Do you sit on your sofa? or is there a certain dress code for that too?

Bizarre.

blueskyeve · 23/09/2022 11:43

Honestly...most of the time I do.

You should go and talk to someone about this. It is not normal.

FirewomanSam · 23/09/2022 12:28

The cat lays on our bed without getting changed too!

Ha, I was just thinking, some of these posters would lose their minds if they knew what my dog gets up to before being allowed to sleep in our bed with us 😳

AloysiusBear · 23/09/2022 12:28

outside is full of germs

Everywhere is. The world is not sterile and if it was we couldn't survive in it.

TheKeatingFive · 23/09/2022 12:28

What's "disgusting" about worn clothes?

THINK OF THE SALIVA AND THE BLOOD AND OTHER PEOPLE''S URINE

Channelling the spirit of MN here 🤣

Mischance · 23/09/2022 12:28

Lord above! - get a life!

If he had been cleaning sewers all day, then I could understand your concern.

That poor man - fancy living with that sort of carping. Poor poor man.

Shitfather · 23/09/2022 12:28

What else is your poor DH subjected to? Utterly inhumane and unkind behavior. Perhaps you should seek some help with your behavior and reflect on how you treat him. Well done for posting l, though. Sounds like this is the first time you’ve had a reality check.

YouSirNeighMmmm · 23/09/2022 12:28

I am going to speculate that you are the sort of person who would never eat food that has fallen on the floor, and that you are constantly struggling with minor illnesses.

Somethingneedstochange · 23/09/2022 12:29

😂😂😂

FrustatedAgain · 23/09/2022 12:29

The poor man would have been in agony and this concerned you?!

Do you wash your hands before you touch your sterile bed, and your hair? Who knows what you've been touching!!

PuddlesOnFire · 23/09/2022 12:29

Arwen7 · 23/09/2022 12:19

OP I totally understand where you coming from.
We never get in bed in the same clothes that we have been wearing outside and both me and my DP feel the same, think it would be gross. Dental practices may be clean however still somewhere where they work with people's saliva and blood on the daily.
However, if he was feeling unwell and didn't have the energy to change into pj's I would understand but would not like it under normal circumstances 🤮

The OP was talking about her in pain husband lying on top of the bed, not inside it.

By the way, you anti germ people should never read up about the amount of bacteria that are on you.

Ps if you do read up about them, don't try and kill them, you need them to stay alive.

Wilkolampshade · 23/09/2022 11:27

Good grief, really?
Of course he's right.
I honestly think MN is some kind of parallel universe sometimes.
Hope your DH has recovered.

Indeed! Do people really have the time and brain space to worry about things like this.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 23/09/2022 12:29

Some people are crazy about cleanliness in their beds (you included by the sounds of it). If I was actually dirty or muddy, then no, I wouldn't get in my bed. Otherwise, fully clothed under the covers is no problem. I have no idea how people get so stressed about something so insignificant.

Mopitgood · 23/09/2022 12:29

Well I would as my clothes are clean but if my DH came home all sweaty after exercise or something and lay on the bed I wouldn't be impressed.

TheHoundsOfHell · 23/09/2022 12:30

I would think nothing of this as long as it's not in the bed, and I'm someone who is particular about hygiene - no shoes in the house, wash hands as soon as you come in, use a bidet and wash hands after using the toilet etc etc

Deguster · 23/09/2022 12:30

No, I don't do or allow outdoor clothes on or in beds. I know it's not logical, but it does make me heave.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 23/09/2022 12:31

Genuine question - why? What is it you're worried about?

BorisJohnsonsHair · 23/09/2022 12:31

FFS. No wonder we're becoming a nation of allergy sufferers if this is how people behave.

Fair enough if he'd been working down a coal mine, or something equally dirty, but honestly.

I despair of the Zoflora-quaffing anti-bac brigade.

lickenchugget · 23/09/2022 12:31

he is right

WhoWasThatMaskedWoman · 23/09/2022 12:31

Even if you were correct in general (you're not), he's just had a sodding wisdom tooth out. Now is not the time to be demanding he changes his clothes before lying down.

It's like giving someone grief for not taking their shoes off at the door if they're suffering from diarrhoea and sprinting to the loo.

howaboutchocolate · 23/09/2022 12:32

To the posters who have a problem with outside clothes on beds - do you also insist that people change into clean clothes before you hug them? I mean god knows what they've been doing in their clothes all day. Or do you just not hug people because of the germs?

averageavocado · 23/09/2022 12:32

does he work in a sewer or abattoir or similar??
