Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

I'm literally lying in bed now in the clothes I've worn at work all day.

I think you need to chill. If you're consistently like that, you'll find you'll be more ill than those who are relaxed. Germs are normal. We don't do well medically when raised in sterile environments.

If I was him, if find you controlling and OTT.

Fairislefandango · 23/09/2022 19:48

Yes, it wouldn't even occur to me not to. The only place I've ever heard about this kind of thing being an issue is germphobes central MN. I do wonder sometimes what people think happened before Zoflora and hot running water. Your immune system is probably shit.

Fairislefandango · 23/09/2022 19:50

I mean... what do you actually think is going to happen if he does this? Are you all going to get cholera or something?

Olsi109 · 23/09/2022 19:55

This sounds a bit mental tbh. Leave your DH to chill on his own bed. Not like he's been working as a mechanic and has filthy clothes 🙄

GeneralSOneill · 23/09/2022 20:18

Yes I do

VladmirsPoutine · 23/09/2022 20:20

No I wouldn't. I always change into 'home clothes' when I get home. I find it gross to sit about on your bed in clothes you've been commuting in, working in etc etc. YANBU.

What filth and disease do you pick up by commuting and working?

EricNorthmanYesPlease · 23/09/2022 20:33

OP im actually with you on this. Deranged as people find it. My bed is my sanctuary

ddl1 · 23/09/2022 20:40

Unless he's been somewhere dirty, I don't see a problem with it. You live in the same house; you share a bed - unless one of you has been somewhere exceptionally unhygienic (which I certainly hope the dentist isn't!), you're far more likely to spread germs by breathing on each other than through clothes!

But it's ON your bed not in it. What is going to happen if you do sit on your bed. The top side of your duvet cover doesn't even touch you when you are in bed.

Are germs going to crawl over the cover and into the bed?

Liz1tummypain · 23/09/2022 21:53

It really doesn't matter.

Moonshine5 · 23/09/2022 21:56

@blueskyeve
I am with you on this.
Who knows who was sitting in the dentist's chair before him? To lay "on" bed - no way I think you are correct.

BubbleTeaBee · 23/09/2022 22:02

This has never occurred to me and I've never encountered this rule in real life. Mumsnet is a parallel universe sometimes.

BubbleTeaBee · 23/09/2022 22:04

Do you all take your clothes off to sit on the sofa?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/09/2022 22:54

I do sometimes wonder how some of these uber-hygienic MNers ever manage to have sex. Do they go over the bloke with Dettol and a Brillo pad first?

TBH the mere mention of ‘hygiene’ or ‘hygienic’ on MN now makes me think OCD - the words have come to have those connotations because of posts like the Op’s, and many similar.

I only leave the house in a hazmat suit which I then burn before returning to the house.

😂😂😂

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 23/09/2022 23:08

YANBU - I’m not a germ phobe or clean freak. I’m just really particular about my bed. Might be able to tolerate clothes on bed if hadn’t really been anywhere or maybe had just driven. But after being out all day or on public transport I would really not like those clothes on my bed.
mid it was clothed in my bed I would have to change the bed.

user1471459761 · 23/09/2022 23:50

You are completely bonkers OP. Seriously, what do you think is actually going to happen??

happyfishcoco · 24/09/2022 00:03

hamsterchump · 23/09/2022 12:22

Inside is full of germs as well, you're full of germs as well, you'd be dead if you weren't.

thanks for the reminder. I am good at science when I was in high school. There are good germs and bad germs, aka pathogens, I mean outside is full of pathogens. my home at least not that much.

Thedogscollar · 24/09/2022 00:05

Unless he crawled through a sewer to get home then laid on the bed then yes YABVVVVVVU.

The more I read on here the more I realise how normal my life is compared to the MN way of life.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 24/09/2022 00:07

Wtf this is crazy! I've not heard of getting changed to lie on a bed before. Wow

Kite22 · 24/09/2022 00:15

Yes I would.
YABU
He is right.
You are being a bit weird.

user478965227857 · 24/09/2022 00:42

How many times a day do you get changed?

The same amount as an average person.

@TheMoops

Changing from outdoor clothes to indoor clothes/not wearing shoes indoors /not sitting on a bed in outdoor clothes is the norm for some of my black friends. Their parents were the same and it's simply part of how they were raised. Certainly not new thing to me.

Under the circs I would have not said anything about it to your DH - he was in pain etc.

To those talking about OCD pls think before you type eg "Are you OCD? "?? 🙄

This 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

onlythreenow · 24/09/2022 05:52

You are being ridiculous! I often lie on the bed, and sometimes in the bed, wearing the clothes I've been in all day - and 63 years later I'm still here, hale and hearty.
