Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

Do you allow him on the sofa in his clothes? If so, what is it about your sleeping body that is so susceptible to contamination that it must be protected from anything that has been outside? With even a duvet not considered sufficient barrier?

mum11970 · 23/09/2022 18:02

Yes, without a second thought. I do it every day. I often go up and watch tv if my husband and son are watching sport. I could sit in the kitchen/diner but it’s more comfortable sat on the bed.

@TheMoops hmm I guess I don't tend to go in/out that many times during the day. Like it may be 2 or max 3 times? I would usually just go to the loo as soon as I arrive (cause small bladder!), wash hands, go in room and change. Like it literally takes me 2min? Maybe I would change my habits if I was going in/out lots of times a day but I've never had such a problem.

Do you inflict this regime in your children?

GloriousGlory · 23/09/2022 18:07

*on

Kateandherbush · 23/09/2022 18:09

Get a fucking grip! 🤣🤣🤣

Arwen7 · 23/09/2022 18:21

@GloriousGlory It's not a regime and I do not inflict this upon anyone, if you read my previous message it's a habit I grew up with and so did DP so there is no drama at home, we are all happy about it 😂 As I said each to their own, it's truly appalling how judgemental people can be in here.

BirdinaHedge · 23/09/2022 18:30

He’s right. You’re a bit weird.

Blackalice · 23/09/2022 18:32

You are being very OTT. He is right.

Yes it is, I'm pretty appalled at being called gross because I don't subscribe to this regime!

Arwen7 · 23/09/2022 18:48

@GloriousGlory errr I didn't call you gross.

Abaiia · 23/09/2022 18:51

Oh poor man, he couldn't even talk and had to text you. He was in that bad a way and you still had a go at him. Seems a bit harsh to me, sorry OP. Can't you just change the bed if you're that worried? When he feels better of course.

GloriousGlory · 23/09/2022 18:59

Arwen7 · 23/09/2022 18:48

@GloriousGlory errr I didn't call you gross.

Did I say you did? I thought I agreed with you saying how judgemental people were and the fact that people that don't keep this kind of regime are called gross by others?

amusedbush · 23/09/2022 19:02

I have never in 32 years stopped, even for a second, to consider this. As it is, I don’t lounge around in ‘outside clothes’ because jeans are leg prisons so I change into leggings and a baggy t-shirt as soon as I get home. However, that is purely for my comfort, nothing to do with germs.

I think you were a bit bonkers and it was shitty to moan about it when he was clearly in pain. If it bothered you so much, you could have left him to rest today and then washed the bedding tomorrow.

happyfishcoco · 23/09/2022 19:14

Magnalux · 23/09/2022 11:42

Omg .. do you change before sitting on the sofa too? what do you think will happen? YABVVU

YES, I do.
back home, the first thing is to change clothes, and second wash hands.

JaceLancs · 23/09/2022 19:15

I’m reading this thread whilst lounging on my bed fully dressed

Boomboom22 · 23/09/2022 19:17

He is, clearly. Do you take off your clothes to sit on the sofa or dining chairs too?

Castleheights · 23/09/2022 19:17

Pig farmer … yes change clothes
Go to dentist and sit in car - wtf for … are you light headed?

FingersofFish · 23/09/2022 19:25

Currently sat in bed in my day clothes! Admittedly I haven't been out in these but I'm not licking the bed so it's not all that grim.

Thepeopleversuswork · 23/09/2022 19:25

Asking again because I have not yet had a satisfactory answer: what microbes so people think someone will contract at the dentists then in the fresh air and a car that they won’t in their own living room? I just don’t understand the science behind this.

TheKeatingFive · 23/09/2022 19:28

I just don’t understand the science behind this.

I don't think there is any, in fairness

NEmama · 23/09/2022 19:29

I totally understand you I don't even like to sit on our bed with work clothes on. I have struggled with OCD tendancies previously.

I can also see why some people wouldn't be bothered. Feels dirty to me.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/09/2022 19:35

You do sound seriously OTT about germs, OP.

TBH if that were me and I was very tired and feeling seriously rough, I’d probably get under the duvet with my clothes on.

PaperTyger · 23/09/2022 19:37

Op I'm sure the thread has moved on but usually yes, fine I wouldn't think about it.

However having been to somewhere like the dentist...I would also be uncomfortable with clothes on the bed. .
I'm also a shoes on person.

Loics · 23/09/2022 19:41

I would never, don't you know that those outside germs sneak up on you when you're asleep and unable to defend yourself?!

TheHoover · 23/09/2022 19:41

Sorry OP, you are a clean freak.
Your DH probably thinks you are a nightmare.
Some people are self righteous / proud about their clean-freakery but this is bordering on the extreme so I’d suggest either trying to relax your standards or if you’re not able to seek help.
