Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

You are NOT unreasonable at all OP. I don’t do that and my partner now does the same. It’s disgusting to. Unless we haven’t sat down anywhere, then all outside clothes are to be removed before sitting anywhere in the house. Anyone who does is a bit gross to be honest… probably the same people who rarely wash their hands 😬each to their own though!

What do you think happens to those people when they do?

America12 · 23/09/2022 14:59

I'm lying on my ned as we speak in jeans I've had on outside 😳

gogohmm · 23/09/2022 14:59

He is. I often lie on my bed in my day clothes

America12 · 23/09/2022 15:00

*bed

Divebar2021 · 23/09/2022 15:00

Oh I love it when the “disgusting” and the “grims” are unleashed. I always wonder how those posters have sex cause that can be a messy old business.

Marikali · 23/09/2022 15:01

heh, I was just lying on my bed in clothes that I had been up to the allotment in! 😬 filth!

Testina · 23/09/2022 15:02

You are off your rocker.

iekanda · 23/09/2022 15:03

Depends what you’ve been doing in the clothes. If got in the car and went to Tesco, I wouldn’t be too stressed. But the dentist is actually not always that clean. Bloke in front of me had filthy manual work clothes on, chair was scattered in bits of well who knows what. Wouldn’t want that on my clothes and then the bed.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 23/09/2022 15:04

Of course I would!
It's my home, not a sterile hospital

Changechangychange · 23/09/2022 15:05

Is this a joke post? You remove all of your clothes before sitting down anywhere? Do you make guests strip off before sitting at your dining table/on the sofa too? Your children? Their school friends have to get naked before they can come round for tea?

If this is real you genuinely have a mental illness and should seek help for it.

ExtraOnions · 23/09/2022 15:07

I wrap myself, and my soft furnishings, in Cling Film before sitting or lying down

bombemma · 23/09/2022 15:08

Oh my goodness!

Im totally the same and always have been and never found anyone else like minded. My DP has got used to it. But at a recent meal with friends he was taking the piss and no one could believe I had this rule. I honestly thought everyone would want a clean bed.

I want to feel clean when getting into bed.

Just being out and about mixing with people that don't wash their hands after having a shit, changing nappies, sneezing. All those bugs and germs, I couldn't relax knowing that was on my sheets.

I know I have germs and bugs on my skin, after having sec etc but they are my germs.

I actually just threw all of my soft furnishings out, to avoid getting any germs on them.

Er.... Ok

girlmom21 · 23/09/2022 15:12

For the people who get changed before sitting on the sofa, what happens when you have visitors or when you visit others?

HangingOver · 23/09/2022 15:18

I feel ill today so currently in bed in clothes with a cat Grin disgusting!!

kateandme · 23/09/2022 15:20

I’d change maybe for comfort if I new I wanted to snuggle.some clothes are so stiff I cringe at the thought of slobbing in them lol.I’m weird about seams though.it’s a thing.
but generally no it’s fine.
and when you have teeth problems I feel proud of anyone that manages to crawl to the bedroom never mind get onto the bed.and wisdom tooth extraction are the worst you can have.
some people bed is very much their safe haven I can’t begrudge them getting onto it with clothes.and depending on their day even getting inside.
especially as nowadays too a lot of people wear loungewear esq outfits.

What do you do when you visit other people's homes? Do you afford them the same standards or is just in your own home?

Actually, you must be joking.

So, you come home, strip off and put clean indoor clothes on, then maybe use the toilet. Do you then change after than due to faecal aerosol? Or is it just other people's germs you are afraid of?
Do you have children, and if so do they have friends over who have to put their "for PetalLeaves' house" clothes on?

Pyewhacket · 23/09/2022 15:32

You sound like hard work. Leave him alone. Poor guy.

ArabellaScott · 23/09/2022 15:33

I went to a party once where all the furniture was covered in plastic covers to keep it clean.

But have you installed a hook in the ceiling so you can hang yourself up, not touching anything? Post autoclave of course.
