Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

OP literally acknowledged she was wrong 7 minutes after the first post. 3 hours later people are still giving her abuse. What is wrong with people?!

YABU. Wisdom tooth extraction is hard work, he was probably in pain and wanted a quick rest and yes the dental chair would be so clean so not a problem. Chill out.

queenMab99 · 23/09/2022 14:14

I lie down on the bed with outer clothes on, sometimes I even leave my shoes on, as I am very arthritic and getting shoes on and off is a long painful job. But then my dog sleeps on my bed, so I am a dirty tramp anyway. It has never made me ill, unless arthritis can be caused by dirt?

What's scary is that I can't tell if you're serious.

I would love this, however I would neither suggest nor expect it from guests. I can control my own behaviour and preferences, but I don't try to control others in this way... unless my husband was to come home from a dentist appointment and then lie on our bed. Then I would tell him it was nasty and ask him get his clothes off before lying on the bed.

Lesserspotteddogfish · 23/09/2022 14:18

Yes, it really wouldn’t occur to me that there was anything wrong with that.

They only read the first post

Actually I’m with Op. wouldn’t Bec have commented to Oh in the circumstances, but never sit / lie on the end in outdoor clothes, just like wouldn’t wear outdoor shoes inside. If I’ve been sitting on a wall, a bus seat etc, Lord only knows how filthy the clothes are as a result!

MotherOfPuffling · 23/09/2022 14:22

Bed not end ffs autocorrect

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/09/2022 14:23

Hilarious, it wouldn’t bother me at all and I can guarantee one of us will do it every single day. Glad you’ve realised that your view is not the norm.

JudgeJ · 23/09/2022 14:23

PollyAmour · 23/09/2022 11:26

He is.

You are unsympathetic and a bit silly. It's not like he's actually in the bed with his clothes on.

There have been a few threads recently where the woman in a relationship is being so controlling and abusive. If I'd had serious tooth work done I wouldn't take kindly to being told to get undressed before collapsing into bed, I would just be able to mange shoes off! Presumably he didn't go to the dentists in dirty gardening clothes.

Blackmetalmama · 23/09/2022 14:24

@BusyBeaMe agree!! Those decorative hotel cushions go straight into the top of the hotel wardrobe never to be touched again during the stay!

KhaleesiOfChaos · 23/09/2022 14:24

You're so in the wrong here OP. You can easily wash the bedcovers. Do you remove your 'outside' clothes to sit on the sofa?!

It must be exhausting being you. He was hardly rolling around on the ground in dog shit, was he?

Surroundedbyfools · 23/09/2022 14:26

without meaning to sound horrible , are you okay ? I used to behave like you are now and would freak at things like this but I was actually mentally unwell with depression anxiety and ocd at the time.

Delectable · 23/09/2022 14:28

I'm similar and when the subject has come up everyone is of the same disposition except for 😄my husband; although he doesn't do it but in theory he won't see anything wrong with it. Another example is hanging coats in his wardrobe in the bedroom. We've now put them in a wardrobe in the hall way. Some people wear outdoor shoes into any of their rooms but the hall way is where we generally stop with outdoor shoes and having just spent an eye watering £300 cleaning the rug in the living room I make sure outside shoes don't go on it.

So generally speaking you're not unreasonable but as he was in pain don't be too hard on him. Give him a hug and something nice to eat/drink to make up for any brashness. 😘

Jules912 · 23/09/2022 14:31

It never occurred to me not to do this unless I'd done something to get especially muddy etc. Would remove shoes obviously.
it does annoy me when DH puts the suitcases on the bed though, as he somehow always seems to find mud to drag them through and unlike my clothes (usually) they have been touching the ground.

Sh05 · 23/09/2022 14:31

Why don't posters atleast read all of op's responses before posting on page 15 or so of a thread.
She's apologised already!!

AntiHop · 23/09/2022 14:32

I'm with you op. I have a no outside clothes on the bed rule.

Greydogs123 · 23/09/2022 14:33

In under the duvet - change into clean/bedclothes.
Lying on top of the duvet - no big deal.
Having wisdom teeth out is utterly miserable, maybe give the poor bloke a break and just change the covers later, if it bothers you that much.

Delectable · 23/09/2022 14:34

blueskyeve · 23/09/2022 11:43

Honestly...most of the time I do.

When I lived alone I always changed before sitting on my sofa. My friends won't just sit on my bed in their outside clothes without first hesitating or sitting on the stool. Jeans are the worst in my mind or after sitting on public transport. Lol! Jeans and after public transport are a no!

puddleduckle · 23/09/2022 14:35

Unless he had shoes on too, YABU.

mydogisthebest · 23/09/2022 14:47

I don't see what the harm is when it is on the bed and not in the bed. When you go to bed you lie in the bed so the outside of the duvet cover doesn't even touch you.

I lie down on top of the bed (and sometimes in the bed) in my clothes if I suddenly get a migraine. I also quite often sit on my bed in outside clothes. I sit on it to take my socks off at the end of the day shock horror

DameHelena · 23/09/2022 14:51

Everyone on here saying it's yuck to sit/lie on your own furniture in outside clothes is a fruitloop.
I'm especially intrigued about this idea that jeans are a particularly serious offender.

LimpBiskit · 23/09/2022 14:52

Nothing wrong with lying on the bed in clothes that have been worn unless they are soiled in some way.
