Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

Do you have a sheep dip outside your bedroom door 🤣. I don't remove my clothes before laying down on my bed. If I had been for a walk and caked in mud obviously I'd get changed, but normal clothes worn in the day outside no. The only thing I don't like is shoes on inside the house, that's pretty common though, what you are suggesting is weird.

Johnnysgirl · 23/09/2022 13:35

I'm being reminded of Sheldon and his bus pants...

MintJulia · 23/09/2022 13:36

YABU.

The only reason I wouldn't is because I'd likely fall asleep, then wake up at three in the morning still fully clothed, headachey and uncomfortable.

But if he is just putting his feet up for half an hour, yes. Why not?

Spidey66 · 23/09/2022 13:36

its fine by me.

I often lie in bed during the day to read. I’ll take my trousers off to be more comfy but otherwise I can’t see the problem. I normally put a clean top on in the morning so I’m hardly filthy.

Fair enough if he’s a builder or farmer!

Ive even (shock horror!) put suitcases on the bed. I’m still alive.

dutysuite · 23/09/2022 13:36

I only get really fussy about it if I’ve been on public transport, the seats are filthy. I have a rule of no suitcases on the beds (when packing/unpacking)at home or when we go away I just get really funny about it.

user478965227857 · 23/09/2022 12:10

Nope. I wouldn't lie or sit inside my house with any clothes that had been worn outside.

Do you make your visitors strip? 🤔

Bloodyusernamechangefailagain · 23/09/2022 13:36

Do you have OCD?

worriedatthistime · 23/09/2022 13:37

Yes and do , its clothes you would sot on your spfa so why is the bed different

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 23/09/2022 13:37

Marvellousmadness · 23/09/2022 12:03

All the pps that say its fine
are people who also walk around their house with their shoes on 🤮

Oh dear god, not shoes On floors😱

🙄😂

worriedatthistime · 23/09/2022 13:38

Even under the covers wouldn't bother me a lot worse happens
Worst case you have a washing machine

ShadowsShadowsShadows · 23/09/2022 13:39

Lol. Our dogs sleep on the bed and they are covered in mud and hair and lick their bums. We also have sex on top of the covers sometimes so there's a lot worse on them than some "outside" clothes.

Having said that we used to have goats and I would obv take off overalls or the clothes I'd been wearing to muck out off before laying on the bed, or going upstairs tbf.

The only time I've said something like this to DH is if he's come back from work covered in saw dust or engine oil and then sat on the bed/sofa and covered them in oil or brick dust. But I feel that's reasonable.

Fizbosshoes · 23/09/2022 13:39

I have a friend that is super germ-phobic and frequently ill with bugs and I've always thought she was in the minority (she is amongst most people I know) but now having been on MN a while I feel I'm in the minority!

As an aside I can't imagine the fuel bills for the hygeine police who wash every item of clothing after 1 wear, need 3 or 4 showers a day, change clothes multiple times a day and launder bedding and towels (everyone on MN - and their children - seems to have a king size bed so thats a LOT of bedding!) multiple times a week. 😳

By the way I've seen OP came back ages ago to accept a difference of opinion and was going to apologise to her DH.

Carlycat · 23/09/2022 13:39

On top of the bed is fine. In bed with anything but nightwear on not acceptable

Blackmetalmama · 23/09/2022 13:41

@blueskyeve I'm with you and don't see why it's shocking that some people don't wear outdoor clothes on their beds or sofa. I find it shocking that so many people have no standards.

I've seen people on the tube cough, sneeze and splutter into the seats. Feet on the seats after trailing through saliva. Vomit on nights out. Why would I want to sit on those seats and then bring it all back to my gorgeous, clean, comfy sofa. It takes a few seconds to get some loungewear or pjs on, then sit back and relax.

worriedatthistime · 23/09/2022 13:41

@sst1234 not washing your hands is very different
Do you sit on your sofa in your clothes ? Then on that sofa on pyjamas or can the two never mix
He is also ill so worst case you could chuck it in the wash
How often do you wash your sofa
I suffer from OCD and even i can't see this as a problem

Fingeronthebutton · 23/09/2022 13:41

I’ve just had a laugh with a friend about this thread. She’s come up with some hilarious/ naughty comments on your bedroom gymnastics. Will not repeat 😂

Ithinkiwanttobealone · 23/09/2022 13:42

Bloody hell, talk about an overreaction first from OP then practically everyone else on the thread.

OP ywbu initially as you have acknowledged yourself but I love your responses further along.

TheLostNights · 23/09/2022 13:42

This is so weird. I do it all the time, so does DH and the kids.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/09/2022 13:44

I find it shocking that so many people have no standards

We've all got standards. They're just not the same as yours.

worriedatthistime · 23/09/2022 13:44

Also why was you cross with him, he is an adult and its his bed too
Why is ok for women to tell their husbands what to do when we don't think its ok the other way around

But what about your guests? Surely they don't get changed to sit on your sofa?

Yes and they also see nothing wrong with that. Low hygiene standards.

TheKeatingFive · 23/09/2022 13:46

😂 😂 😂

This place is a scream

LadyT27 · 23/09/2022 13:48

YABU and totally OTT.

Yes I would most of the time change beforehand but only as it would be more comfy and if my clothes were dirty if I'd been for a long walk in bad weather or at the beach and had sand on my clothes.

Of course you can prefer your DH to have changed but to tell him that it is degusting, jeeeeez.....how OTT! I hope your apology to him was good.

worriedatthistime · 23/09/2022 13:49

@ofwarren probably don't have guests as who would want to go somewhere you can't be comfortable or a sheets put down
I have ocd about contamination and even i don't get this behaviour
Shoes off yes as shoes are often dirty , clothes on unless visibly dirty
