Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

Considering the cat regularly sprinkles grindles, soil, scabs and various insects on my bed, I can't really be worried about it. I don't generally lick my bedclothes, so not an issue with me.

luckylavender · 23/09/2022 13:15

Very odd reaction. Poor man.

thecatneuterer · 23/09/2022 13:15

He is right. You are bonkers.

AuldReekie1905 · 23/09/2022 13:16

Wow. Just wow. This isn't even something that has ever entered my mind. Especially if my DH was in pain. I might suggest he gets into jammies so HE'S more comfortable but not because I find it disgusting. How bizarre!

HappyRhino · 23/09/2022 13:17

My dog sleeps on my bed. Should I be putting some sort of clothing on him to keep his outside germs at bay?

For what it’s worth, I’m known as a bit of a clean freak and I did wash my shopping during Covid, but I’m not sure I could get worked up over outdoor clothes on the bed.

breathcalmly · 23/09/2022 13:18

I don’t like the use of bonkers etc on this thread, if this act genuinely made the OP feel uncomfortable then it may well be contamination OCD which is a recognised mental health issue, and should be viewed with kindness and understanding

Tell me you washed your shopping during the height of the pandemic without telling me you washed your shopping during the height of the pandemic

No need - Dettol does a spray disinfectant which I used while it was still in the plastic boxes. I still do it now.

Oh god! When will it ever end!

AlmostOver22 · 23/09/2022 13:21

Ok everyone the OP is wrong and she now knows but my god reading this thread is something else!!! The OP has been diagnosed as abusive and/or mentally unwell in the same thread… I’m sure we all have things in our head that we think are normal and others think are strange!! Caaaaalm dooooown!!!

honeyrider · 23/09/2022 13:21

You're OTT, it might be worth seeing a medical professional as your reaction is bonkers.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 23/09/2022 13:22

Is this real? FWIW I'm probably old enough to be your mother - I've survived to my great age despite pneumonia and cancer, neither of these were caused by sometimes lying atop the bed in outside clothing whilst feeling too poorly to undress properly. Get a grip OP.

WaltzingWaters · 23/09/2022 13:23

I’m the same OP. I hate clothes that have been worn out and about all day being on the bed, well, especially up on the pillows. Guess I’m bonkers too 😅

I would even get into my bed with clothes on id been out in. I regularly do. Unless they are obviously dirty! Whats the difference to sitting on your sofa in clothes you've been out in? Or do you chsnge for tht too?

Ilikecheeseontoast · 23/09/2022 13:26

You sound bonkers. If I was covered in coal dust or horse manure then of course I’d get undressed but otherwise not. Why does the bed need to be sanitary and pristine?

Klippetyklip · 23/09/2022 13:27

Get a grip

mummy81 · 23/09/2022 13:28

I'm with you. I don't like it. As soon as I get home I need to change into home clothes!

Fingeronthebutton · 23/09/2022 13:29

You don’t sound bonkers, you are bonkers.
But on a serious note, if your going to make up a stupid story could you make it more interesting 🧐

Holly05235892 · 23/09/2022 13:31

Have been following this for a few hours and has made me laugh out loud so much while in the office so thank you OP! Some hilarious responses 😅
I have to say I think you've been very mature about it because some people have been plain rude to you.
I have to say it wouldn't bother me at all and I do think YWBU. However, you have accepted that and I have a lot of respect for you.

inheritanceshiteagain · 23/09/2022 13:32

You were ridiculous. Poor man

God, I think I lie somewhat closer to the OPs post than this.
I have no idea what a Grindle is and am not sure I want to know!

inheritanceshiteagain · 23/09/2022 13:32

The only exception of course, is shoes.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/09/2022 13:33

I am lying on my bed right now with my clothes on. Sometimes I even get under the covers in my clothes.

limitedperiodonly · 23/09/2022 13:33

Oh FFS! When I've felt under the weather and having your wisdom tooth out definitely counts, I've crawled into bed in my clothes. I always take my shoes off but that's it.

Characterbuilding · 23/09/2022 13:33

Oh my, I have grew up with Caribbean parents, family and friends. We all strip off outside clothes that have been on buses etc.. before we sit in our beds! No judgement but we’ve always done that and it’s perfectly normal to us. If someone had been to the doctor/dentist it would be deemed even more important. I guess it’s perhaps an aspect of our culture.

Johnnysgirl · 23/09/2022 13:34

The poor divil!
