Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

On the bed, fine. In it, no.

'Disgusting' seems a bit melodramatic either way; presumably your DP walks around like anybody else and doesn't wriggle along the ground on his belly like a snake?

That brought an image into my head that I cant unsee, thanks! 😂

On bed its fine unless the clothes are muddy etc
In bed its not fine
I take it he didn't have his shoes on still?

CornishGem1975 · 23/09/2022 12:43

As long as no shoes, nope I wouldn't think twice about it. I've done it all my life? I don't expect my teenagers to get into their PJs as soon as they come home from school. What a bizarre life.

Tootsey11 · 23/09/2022 12:43

You say that none of us know your personality, but that one comment from you tells us all we need to know.

HeadNorth · 23/09/2022 12:44

I would hate to be married to some Mumsnetters. The poor bloke has just had a wisdom tooth out - if you can't be kind, at least leave him alone.

Novum · 23/09/2022 12:45

blueskyeve · 23/09/2022 11:43

Honestly...most of the time I do.

Seriously? I think you may need help.

orbitalcrisis · 23/09/2022 12:45

I suppose it depends on what you've been doing all day. If your job involves being in the sewers or mopping up the booths at a peep show then take those clothes off, if not you are being really unreasonable!

bookworm14 · 23/09/2022 12:47

YABU.

I don’t know who’s weirder on MN - the hygiene obsessives or the competitive undereaters.

loislovesstewie · 23/09/2022 12:47

Poor sod has had a wisdom tooth out and you are complaining that he has rested on the bed! And, yes, wisdom tooth removal can be bloody painful.

TheyreOnlyNoodlesMichael · 23/09/2022 12:48

I honestly don't know how people like this get through life.

I often wonder if it is just a competitive bored housewife Mrs Hinch type thing.

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 23/09/2022 12:49

You’re bonkers OP.

Janeycraney · 23/09/2022 12:50

Agree that this is a bit bonkers to care about but fair play to the OP for accepting the consensus and taking it in good humour. Also a little jealous of how clean and tidy I imagine her house must be

mimi0708 · 23/09/2022 12:51

Hi OP, you are not alone! We do this in our house, we change into house clothes and we even all make sure we shower before lying on the bed at night if we have been outside expecially if it is smoky. Also we do this in our culture so this is not a weird thing 🙂

Vinyasa474 · 23/09/2022 12:51

I'm going against the grain to say I do not get on my clean sheets in "bus pants" as Sheldon famously referred to them! I wouldn't have told my DH off of he did it accidentally being ill but in general we don't do it. We are both hospital doctors so it's like being in a germ convention tbf. The dentist/hospital chairs/trolleys are not always cleaned between patient visits

andtheweedonkey · 23/09/2022 12:52

YABVU.
I had all 4 wisdom teeth outimpacted, needed general anaesthetic and stitches
I just about got home before I started vomiting blood.
I was basically dead for the next 24 hrs - although I think I collapsed on the sofa with snooker on the telly...
I couldn't open my mouth for about 10 days and survived on chocolate buttons, yoghurt and milkshake...hot things were a no-no.
You need to say sorry and mean it as he will remember the enormous amount of empathy you had for him when you need help.

RustyShackleford3 · 23/09/2022 12:52

Your poor DH! Sounds absolutely miserable living in your house.

Especially if it's smoky????? Are you all firemen?

Mischance · 23/09/2022 12:53

blueskyeve · 23/09/2022 12:40

Yes, but we usually do it unclothed. 😜

Ah .... sweat, semen, vaginal fluids, spit are all splendidly clean! Clothes are not. Weird????!!!!

mimi0708 · 23/09/2022 12:53

In winter it really is! Everyone is burning wood and it really sticks on your clothes where we live

DZbornak · 23/09/2022 12:53

I am completely with you here, I think it's rank when people are on beds with outdoor clothes on! Bacteria from everywhere you have been that day then contaminating your sheets, yuck. You are right, husband is wrong, just ignore the nonsensical abuse you've been getting for absolutely no reason!

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2022 12:54

Deguster · 23/09/2022 12:30

No, I don't do or allow outdoor clothes on or in beds. I know it's not logical, but it does make me heave.

Heave? What, actually physically retch @Deguster?

Why?

I'd genuinely like to know waht is so revolting that you think you may vomit?

I honestly don't have the head space to worry about this, let alone heave!

Sorry my comment was meant for this! In winter it really is, the smell of smoke coming from wood burning really sticks to your clothes where we live

DoubleBuggyDriver · 23/09/2022 12:55

Yuck I always change my clothes before sitting on my bed or the sofa. As soon as I get in I wash my hands and change into house clothes, most black people do😂

I don’t know one black person who will sit on their bed with their clothes on. Those same clothes that have sat on public transport and has possibly brushed against railings and doors are now in your clean bed? I don’t think so

XlemonX · 23/09/2022 12:56

I would be just like you. It takes less than 1 min to just strip off the clothes. If he could take himself home, he would be capable of aldo getting change quickly. I really cant stand clothes worn outside in my bed. God knows whats been on public seats.
tbh I even mind on my sofa, but i try to not be because i know thats a bit extreme

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 23/09/2022 12:56

Tell me you washed your shopping during the height of the pandemic without telling me you washed your shopping during the height of the pandemic.

Are you serious OP? What an uptight way to live your life!

That's fair enough. I do understand that. Smoky smell on a duvet wouldn't fill me with glee.
