Whilst you took older child to nursery (takes 3 minutes) ? Car is right outside and locked..

I don’t know. Can you see it all times? Is it a busy car park? What of someone goes into the back of it?

DenholmElliot1 · 23/09/2022 09:56

Yes I would

No can't see the car, but it's not far. It's on a residential street, no car park. But it's right outside.

I would, and have, if the carpark was right next to the nursery, and I knew I'd be quick. I wouldn't wake the sleeping baby in those circumstances.

I appreciate that I'm probably in a minority.

20viona · 23/09/2022 09:57

I would but only if I could see the car the whole time.

FoxyLoxSox · 23/09/2022 09:57

I wouldn’t be comfortable really if I couldn’t actually see the car.

mamabear715 · 23/09/2022 09:58

No, tbh, I don't think I would.

Brunonononooo · 23/09/2022 09:58

Not if I couldnt see the car no I don’t think I would be comfortable.

purplecorkheart · 23/09/2022 09:58

Not in those circumstances.

engalaaand · 23/09/2022 09:58

What's the worry ? That someone would steal the car ? Take the baby out ? The windows are dark at the back and you can't see in. It's unlikely someone would crash into the car, as it's parallel parked and the baby side is always near the pavement.

Bootsandcat · 23/09/2022 09:59

Yes, I do that sometimes. But only in the morning when it’s not hot, and at drop off only because my eldest will walk straight in whereas at pick up there’s usually a wait and handover so I won’t ever leave him in the car at pick up.

It’s up to you, we all have to do our own risk assessments with these things don’t we? I just personally wouldn’t if the car wasn’t in sight.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 23/09/2022 10:00

Yes I do this but I drop the toddler at the door and am therefore about 5 steps away from the car at all times. If I couldn't see the car I wouldn't.

Yeah of course, when it's not hot. That goes without saying !

engalaaand · 23/09/2022 10:01

@FoxyLoxSox but that's why I'm asking. To understand what risk I haven't thought of. It so many people wouldn't do it, they'll have their reasons and I'm looking for those, so I can extend my own assessment.

No. If I could see the car yes. Not in your description.

FoxyLoxSox · 23/09/2022 10:03

I can’t say absolutely in your circumstances because I’d need to actually be able to picture everything and your car and the baby etc etc. IF it was me and my baby no, I wouldn’t do it because I can’t see the car. And I wouldn’t want to get delayed for any reason knowing DS was alone in the car.

Teadrinkingmumofone · 23/09/2022 10:03

Not in the circumstances you explain, no.

Treesuphooray · 23/09/2022 10:03

I have done when nursery car park was right outside nursery and only used by parents and staff. I could hear if baby cried as I left a door/window open.

daughter is now at school. Drop off takes a couple of minutes but I have to park in a residential street. Now baby comes with me even if that means waking him.

I don’t leave my children out of my sight and hearing. It’s not safe.

what would you do if you passed a screaming baby on its own in a car? I’d call the police as I’d have no idea where the carer was!

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 23/09/2022 10:03

I wouldn't on a public road. In a private car park right next to the nursery for 3 mins I would (and have).

ladydimitrescu · 23/09/2022 10:04

No, not if I couldn't see the car.

Marvellousmadness · 23/09/2022 10:07

Yes of course I would

NOT

mondler · 23/09/2022 10:08

I'm a natural worrier but my concerns would be someone could steal the car, bump the car while trying to park, you leave the handbrake off and car travels. Then also what if you get delayed at pick up/drop off? What if baby wakes up and cries for the whole time and someone hears them and think they've been left?

I personally would have to be able to see the car at all times.

I wouldn't call the police, I might stand outside and if no one came in a few minutes, I would consider what to do. But I would not immediately call the police. I also wouldn't be worried about my baby crying for three minutes at all. It never happens anyway, he sleeps. But drop off is really quick. So I would not be scared he would cry. My worry is if someone steals the car or breaks in and takes him. But they'd have to be very fast.

The only time I've left baby asleep in the car is on my driveway, completely off road and safe. I'd never leave baby asleep in the car if it was out of sight and/or on a public road or car park. Anyone can hit your car at any time, it's just not worth the risk. Each to their own though, we all parent differently after all.
