Why would the baby choke ? Sorry just wondering, is this something I need to be worrying about at all times ?

Yes, it is something you should think about.

I lost a cousin many years ago who choked on his vomit.

Unicorn717 · 23/09/2022 11:00

I wouldn't do this. The chances of something happening is small but I'd never forgive myself if it did and I wasn't there.

engalaaand · 23/09/2022 11:06

@Tanith I think they can turn their head generally speaking from when they're born. Little babies spit up/ vomit loads, even in their beds, but are able to turn their heads. That's one of the reasons they should sleep on their back, so they just automatically turn their head when they vomit, on their front they may inhale the vomit from the bed. It's harder for them to turn their head in a car seat. But then you run that risk any time you drive with a baby in the car, they could vomit and choke on it. It's actually happened to my baby and he was OK. Thankfully. But I couldn't do much but pull over in a safe place and help him then.

No and I didn’t. I always carried the car seat in. A car was a stolen with a toddler in the back a few days ago.

SpinningFloppa · 23/09/2022 11:10

not if I couldn’t see the car at all time’s no.

Mama234567 · 23/09/2022 11:12

Someone might watch you regularly doing this with your precious baby and decide to chance it one day when you are out of sight. I really really wouldn't. A private nursery car park would be one thing but walking away when parked on a residential street gives me anxiety.

Zingy123 · 23/09/2022 11:15

No way not unless you can see the car.

Cm078 · 23/09/2022 11:17

Personally, no absolutely not. I don't even leave my toddler in the car when I pay for petrol, however I have a friend who does. I just personally don't feel comfortable with it.

piegone · 23/09/2022 11:19

I don't have a reason, it I never left my babies anywhere without me. I would have just lifted them. I'm not sure it needs a reason OP?

You do you and all that

quietnightmare · 23/09/2022 11:20

Obviously not. Someone sees you doing this and the social will be on to you, rightly or wrongly

Really ? For tree minutes and 15 metres ? That's a bit extreme.

Babies can choke on their vomit and do not always turn their head. Speaking from experience.

Just get an isofix car seat and unclick it to carry in. Baby can stay asleep.

But passers by won’t know how long you’ve been gone for? Tbh I think my kids school would report this (they reported me for something just as ridiculous)

Many people do, i just can't bring myself to do it. I dont know why!
Im one of those people that always fears the worst case scenario, someone stealing the car, someone hitting the car etc. Extreme I know. 🙈

FiveLittleDucklings · 23/09/2022 11:28

No, I wouldn't.

LionessesRules · 23/09/2022 11:28

No,

This happened near me very recently

I wouldn't call the police, I might stand outside and if no one came in a few minutes, I would consider what to do. But I would not immediately call the police. I also wouldn't be worried about my baby crying for three minutes at all. It never happens anyway, he sleeps. But drop off is really quick. So I would not be scared he would cry. My worry is if someone steals the car or breaks in and takes him. But they'd have to be very fast.

I think, it's verY unlikely that your car will be broken into but there is a possibility that someone will call the police. I'd be worried about someone bumping into the car. Also, what if the baby wakes up, becomes hysterical and somehow hurts themselves. I don't even like leaving my baby alone in the car in my drive at home on a very quiet cul-de-sac but sometimes I do to take the shopping in. It's one of those things where it's probably ok but a baby being out of sight and hearing leaves most people uncomfortable.

AllTheOtherNamesWereTaken · 23/09/2022 11:30

I think the fact that you're questioning it and have that small bit of doubt means you shouldn't, you would never ever forgive yourself if the baby got kidnapped in such an avoidable situation. I agree with everyone saying someone can notice your pattern, people desperate for a baby may so desperate things to get one or worse somebody evil. Yes it rare but it does happen like we sadly all know.
I am not much of a worried person but I never even take my hand off the trolley in the super market with the baby in is, because people can be opportunists. But to give you an idea of how I do things I do leave him in the car to get fuel or to pop to somebody's front door for pick up/drop off something because he's in sight, I totally agree with everyone saying it's not ok if you can't see the car.

Mamai90 · 23/09/2022 11:34

I wouldn't. I'm not even sure what I think could happen but I just wouldn't feel comfortable with it at all.

whynotwhatknot · 23/09/2022 11:34

wasnt there an incident wherea dad left his dc to go in a shop and the car was crashed into and they died?

its jsut not worth the risk doesnt matter which side the baby is on

UsernameIsCopied · 23/09/2022 11:34

I wouldn't, but I think that I am overanxious in this aspect. I certainly wouldn't think twice about another parent doing it.

Your child is at far greater risk being taken into the shop to pay for fuel than being left in the car!
What do you actually think is going to happen?
Common sense really has disappeared!

YellowTreeHouse · 23/09/2022 11:35

Christ no and if you thought it was acceptable I’d question your judgement.

I would also ring the police and social services if I saw you do this.

MandaLynn · 23/09/2022 11:36

When I was a baby, my parents left me in the car on a public road when they ran into shop/school drop off. A larger car came round the corner and hit the side of our car so that our car - with me in it - rocked side to side. It was enough that I still (30+ years later) have scars on the inside of my mouth from where I bit the inside of me cheeks as the car rocked back and forth.

So yes, the chances are low - but not zero.
