Madonna… wtf??

Madonnas Instagram just popped up on my feed.

erm.

is it genuine? She has had so much work done that she looks about 25 - in the pics - I imagine in real life it looks kinda weird.

and it all seems to be some kind of weird porn inspired vibe - but in a very clunky and unsubtle way.

I am genuinely shocked. I haven’t really seen anything of her for quite a while.

is this a surprise to anyone else or have I been totally out of the loop??

The photos are horrifying. Imagine being nearly 70 (?), having all the money and power and security in the music world, and feeling like you have to let some evil doctor fuck up your naturally handsome, mature face just so you can pose on instagram. I find it really tragic.
Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith look so much cooler just by dressing the way they've always dressed, having the same haircuts for >70 years, and letting their faces show their life experiences. That's how I plan to age (but obviously not cool at all).

I’ve really enjoyed this thread and sort of tried on all the different opinions like dresses - yes, she looks bizarre and distorted, yes it’s sad and disturbing…but also, yeah, she’s not behaving like a 64 year old woman ‘should’, she is outraging us with her filters and fillers and splayed poses, and that’s her job, that’s who she is.

She was the coolest girl in the world, once. But also she was always a bit too forced and try hard to be really cool. Both felt true.

What can’t be denied is that however playful or daring or defiant she may be with her current incarnation, the boot-mark of the patriarchy is heavy on her face.

I looked through photos of her from the 1980s to now and suddenly thought, I kind of miss her - I miss Madonna as she was and as she could be now. I wish I could see her determined, handsome, wry face in its natural gorgeousness. I wish we could actually see her.

The zeitgeist is raging through her, living through her body. And it is a weird sight.

It’s all so undignified, and not in a good taboo-breaking way, but an embarrassing way. Also really sad that she seems to feel that she must dress in silly teenage clothes and pretend she’s not her age. (I never know why celebrities do this: surely they know that we know it’s fake? Why bother?)

I remember once reading that she’s very germphobic and suffers from worries about the purity of what she eats and a degree of paranoia, IIRC — so it’s not surprising that she might have other kinds of fears around ageing and control. It’s sad though - you’d think the people around her ought to try to intervene, especially about the surgery and the styling which does make her look frankly ridiculous and a bit creepy.

But I don’t think we’re outraged on the thread, though, are we? I’m more embarrassed for her than anything else. 🙁 And she could always be a little ridiculous tbh; but the music was always great pop music. Now - well; no music, really, just cringe.

Doesn’t look like Madonna I know and if I didn’t know who it was I think I would assume it’s a cross dresser. Looks like a man to me.

That photo with her sisters someone posted, she could have ended up looking like the one on the right who looks pretty cool. My issue with Madonna is that she never seems to have any sense of humour. In every interview, she's hard work and, frankly, boring.

All of Madonna's self published pics are heavily photoshopped. I saw a pic from her son's bday one from an online news outlet untouched and then the one she published... anyone would think they were pics of two different people.

I'm all for photoshopping if that's what you're into, I know it's happening and am in awe when they do it in movies (moving imagines) I just feel for all of those that do not take these photoshopped imagines with a shot of tequila

I think maybe she was always the same, it just seemd less horrible when she was younger.

But I remember when she did that movie, Truth or Dare I think?, when she was dating Warren Beatty, told everyone how she kissed her childhood friend as a girl and embarrassed said friend, and performed fellatio on a bottle. Even the masturbating on stage stuff.

It was all desperation for attention and not much sense of dignity. For a while it seemed like she was giving up on some of the silly stuff but evidently not.

I looked and what gas happened to her front teeth? Has she had fillings in them? Her fave looks bloated and unnatural. She doesn't look like a young or old person just alien. The French kissing is also very yuck.

She seems mainstream to me, too many female celebrities look bloated and unlike themselves..too much plastic. Would've been more groundbreaking to rock the wrinkles.

I don't think the real reason people find them so disturbing is they object to her "acting wrong". It's not unreasonable to expect people at 60 to have more wisdom than someoe of 20 or 30.

It's a very visceral uncanny valley feeling. Probably both from the unnatural elements that creep in from the cosmetic work and also the filter. Her age is in a way connected just because a younger woman wouldn't have so much done, but sometimes even then filters give somewhat that effect.

I actually find her hair particularly disturbing, it looks like it is fake plastic implants or something. Like you'd open her face and find gears.

The fact that she doesn't seem to see that they feel so wrong suggests a distorted self-image. Which does seem especially sad in a woman who is getting past middle age. Coming to term with ageing and death is something we have to do when we are getting into our 60s or we will have a very bad time when we get a little further on. We don't expect 26 year olds to have that perspective.

Did anyone else see Felicity Kendal on the Bbc1 footage of the funeral...she looks shocking too....also Stockard Channing....why on earth do they do it to themselves.

I'm so disappointed she's had all that work done. She used to look fab. I loved her 80/90s music. Also she seems so rude when she's interviewed.

She does look old still, despite all the work done. The only result of this so called “work” is that she looks creepy, in a very unsettling way

I used to be a mad Madonna fan as she blasted onto my screen around 14 years old. There was nothing like her, she was unbelievable. I feel sad that when I think of her now it is in a WTF way.

Someone who has that much sex on show is probably in bed with a cup of Horlicks at 9pm. A marriage counsellor once told me that it is those people you least expect, are the ones swinging from the chandeliers with all sorts of weird sexual antics, and the ones with it all on show are usually bordering on prude.

And actually if she just loved dressing this way, she could just put the unfiltered pictures on her page, the fact they’re filtered to make her look much longer would suggest she does care a lot what people think.

@LovingTheseAutumnSnippets exactly - there is certainly no sense whatsoever that she is actually getting any pleasure from licking a 25 year olds tongue in the back of a limousine sitting at an awkward angle so that there is a good camera shot

my view is that Madonna has never been more confirming of the patriarchy than she is now
