See, the thing is that I think it's exactly the opposite.
What is expected nowadays? It's expected for stars to have Botox, fillers, face lifts in a quest to keep wrinkle-free and young.
Madonna is conforming to the typical Hollywood standards and following exactly the same path as every other ageing female celebrity who wants to try and stay looking young.
I don't think that's trailblazing. I think it's boring and it's a massive disappointment. Madonna never used to conform, and now that's all she's about with the fake-looking filters and ridiculous fillers.
Madonna was amazing because she didn't give a fuck. She did her own thing, even if she was out of step with everyone else. When she was in her 50s and wearing a leotard and there were all the predictable "yuk, older woman in a leotard - no one wants to see that!" comments, I thought she was incredible. Actively challenging the stereotype that an older woman can't be sexy.
Now, she's just a parody of everyone else in Hollywood who opts for cosmetic surgery. For all the women who grew up watching her it's a huge departure from everything that she once stood for.
She looks terrible without the filters, but that's not even the point. It's just that she's chasing down impossible ideals and just doing what everyone else does. Just with a few more erotic poses. Not exactly ground breaking.
Obviously her body, her choice - obviously. But yeah, not the trailblazing icon that I thought she genuinely was. Massive letdown.
