Madonnas Instagram just popped up on my feed.

erm.

is it genuine? She has had so much work done that she looks about 25 - in the pics - I imagine in real life it looks kinda weird.

and it all seems to be some kind of weird porn inspired vibe - but in a very clunky and unsubtle way.

I am genuinely shocked. I haven’t really seen anything of her for quite a while.

is this a surprise to anyone else or have I been totally out of the loop??

I’m off to look for some more old Madonna interviews on YouTube - I’m enjoying watching them. She was incredible back then! (And also rather intimidating - I’m not sure I’d want to be one of the journalists interviewing her!)

Madonna the person has always left me a bit cold, as though she's always trying to mould herself to what's currently popular rather than just being herself. Having said that, she has released MANY an absolute banger of a tune and I would bet my last dollar that decades from now people will still be listening to Into The Groove, Crazy For You, Like A Prayer, Ray of Light, Vogue and many more. No doubt about it.

Well I can't. If they were "everywhere" they made no impression on me at all.

The problem with relying on filters is that you can't look like that live/ in person which is rather restricting. Not that surgical/ cosmetic procedures are fantastic either.

Accepting her age and continuing to behave "Madonna" would have been far more edgy and in line with the string of personas she's created through the years. It's like she's become a parody of herself. It's not cutting edge either.

Madonna's USP was always reinventing herself but this is more than changing your hair/ make-up/ wardrobe.

It's an audience risk too. It's alientating to her older core fan base who are also aging, but it's not particularly alluring to the younger audience that she's imitating.

There is more rebellion to older women embracing their age and carry on doing their own thing rather than desperately faking youth.

I think she should do a Bette Midler/Patti LuPone. She's never been a truly great singer like either of them, but they're glam, stylish, fun and very politically outspoken.

I'm very sure that, assuming you aren't very young, there are at least ten Madonna songs you'd recognise.

I think it's really possible a lot of younger people won't know her music. Even younger MN users.

I just asked my daughter, 17, if she knew any Madonna songs - she said nobody listens to Madonna any more.

Possibly my other daughter might - she listens to a lot of older stuff, but most young people now don't. They are much less likely to go through parents old cd and record collections, their listening is more driven by Spotify algorithms and also a lot by tiktok.

Even retro night at the club seems focused on early 2000s music.

WOA, she looks like a bloated version of my grandmother on this video, she can hardly move either. Looks like she put on tons of weight and got bloated, she can hardly move either. What was she thinking when she recorded this video??? Maybe she's been having some serious health problems and we're all just unaware of them. What a change. Then again, she's 65...

She also got a big boob job and butt implants which makes her body look more weird and disproportionate. In any case she didn't have surgery to please me so it's her body her rules. She's a huge artist and I hope she's happy.

I didn't know about that. I'm actually a bit shocked!

Not because I'm scared of boobs or offended by them or anything. I just didn't expect that, even from Madonna. I know she's very daring but I thought she was pushing the envelope of mainstream pop culture and, well, as sexual and scantily clad as they may be, I just don't think mainstream pop singers usually get their boobs out completely at ordinary evening events that are covered by the normal fashion press. Maybe they do, but that's the only time I know of!
