To let 13 year old dress like a drug dealer??

DS is 13 and suddenly has taken an interest in ‘fashion’ which mostly seems to be dressing in all black sports logos and puffa
jackets. Nike trainers, puma joggers, north face hoody - you get the idea.

oh, and calling us ‘fam’ every frigging minute,
innit bruv.

given that he’s a white, MC kid, in a MC area at a MC school ( state but uniform with tie/blazer/shirt etc) with all that comes with that, I think it’s annoying/amusing and that he’ll grow out of this fake ‘street’ phase.

DH on the other hand thinks that he’s dressing. like a drug dealer and we should go buy him some Boden or something.

AIBU to just let 13 year old to dress how he likes??

‘Nice one, you've just described my 13yo and 15yo as dressing like drug dealers🙄 snotty nose b’

maybe your kids looks fab, my 13 year old genuinely looks like he could snatch your phone as his whizzes last on his BMX.
I’m aware that there are lots of people,
myself included, who can wear sports gear and look like they’re going to play some sport.
this kid just isn’t one of them…

DW and DH?

alilstressed · 21/09/2022 21:18

I didn't realise drug dealers had a uniform....

properdoughnut · 21/09/2022 21:19

Is it possible drug dealers are dressing like your son?

pinok · 21/09/2022 21:20

Why and when did north face suddenly become popular with teens? I’m sure my dad had a practical waterproof north face coat years ago! Now every teen is in a nf puffer coat

and yes I’m sure we didn’t used to be so cloney? Obviously trends always happen but nowadays it’s 90% of teens in the exact same trainer, only one or two ‘acceptable’ coat brands etc. It is like a uniform.

Goingforarun · 21/09/2022 21:21

Why would you want to continually humiliate your son? Let him be

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/09/2022 21:21

It's been going on forever , ds1 was exactly the same at that age and he's 27 now. Unfortunately we do live somewhere that is definitely not mc and the drug dealers do still wear the same clothes so unless you know it's difficult to tell dealers from non dealers

Ds2 wouldn't have been caught dead dressing or talking like that but ds3 is almost 12 and I can see it happening again 😒

‘Is he a drug dealer?’
christ, if only he were that useful.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 21:21

‘I didn't realise drug dealers had a uniform....’

the kids who ran ‘errands’ for them in my estate did.

still, let him get on with it is the conclusion I’m doing away with and hopefully he’ll stop shout ‘believe mandem, believe!’ at me when I ask him if he’s fed the cats…

Probably they don’t- so as to be incognito.
One of the most “ Successful “ heroin smugglers was a Scout Master, I think Japanese?

Spreading misery and death with a respected “ Uniform”

Well if they are going to insist in talking like that a bit of ripping the piss is in order

HairyMothballs · 21/09/2022 21:22

It must be a phase. My 11 year old granddaughter has just started senior school and now says "allow it fam", whatever the fuck that means. We just laugh.

stillherenow · 21/09/2022 21:23

Isn't this 'roadman' attire ?!

Sylvaniandream · 21/09/2022 21:23

Hilarious. Mine would call this look chavvy, I think. But he calls us 'fam squad' and says 'innit' and 'bro'. Or is it 'bruh', not sure now! We've resorted to saying fam squad and innit a lot too now. We are v embarrassing.

BirmaBrite · 21/09/2022 21:24

Do you buy online ? Wink

‘Men have heard of Boden? Unless your DH is actually Johnnie Boden, I call BS’

Dear WIFE has heard of Boden. But also knows a teen wouldn’t be caught in Boden so I think was just clutching at straws.

But you used DH (dear husband) in your opening post ?? Confused

ShirtingForkBalls · 21/09/2022 21:24

Urrrgh al the black is so awful. Feel your pain op!

Dalaidramailama · 21/09/2022 21:24

Plenty of drug dealers in my family dress like that. It’s awful.

I don’t allow my son to go THAT chavvy as we are not in a MC area and 9 times out of 10 if you look like a DD, you are infact one. So we tone it down for our son.

ShirtingForkBalls · 21/09/2022 21:25

MsTSwift · 21/09/2022 20:24

It’s worse with girls. We are at our wits end. Dd2 aged 13 nearly 14 wears the most outrageous outfits. If we say anything we are “victim blaming anti feminists” apparently.

Oh lord. Is it the cycling shorts and sports vest outfit by any chance? 🙈

stillherenow · 21/09/2022 21:25

I'm very proud my dd dresses exactly like I did in the 90s!

Teenagers are funny

OP I have a 13 year old girl. My sympathies are with you but trust me. Having a 13 year old girl and how she wants to dress is worse 🤦‍♀️

PolkaDotMankini · 21/09/2022 21:27

SeriousChild · 21/09/2022 20:37

The funny thing is the actual "street" kids don't dress like this anymore. Our PRU kids moved on about 2 years ago, they wouldn't be seen dead dressed like the middle classes who think they're copying them 😆

@SeriousChild what's the approved 'look' these days?

I just sent 12yo DS that YouTube video. He says that only 'annoying' people at school talk like that, so I think it might be a while until we hit that stage.

Ahhhh teenage fashion 😁 I'm secretly looking forward to seeing what tribe my dd decides to go along with.

The only way out of the roadman phase early is to buy designer labels. Just wait til he decides he needs a montcler puffer instead of northface 🤣

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 21:28

I tell you what, thank GOD for school uniforms! At least 5 days a week he’s dressed half normally ( well, like a small accountant I suppose) because it was a lot cheaper to dress him in H&M and Next rather than the brands he’ll actually wear now…
