I stopped working when my dd was born with complex health problems. They are lifelong but she’s doing well and is thriving in school. I also have a ds who is in school. I would like to get back into work but I don’t know how. My dc school has breakfast club but no after school club and it is a small rural school with no nearby childcare provisions. My dc are with their dad eow. Aibu to ask how I can get a job when my only available hours are 9-3, Mon-Fri?

A childminder is your best option. I use one for before and after school.

I work 9-3 4 days a week in hospitality. School holidays are covered by me, husband and holiday club as they would be if we separated.

I could claim UC and claim back a lot of childcare costs too.

I don't live 45 minutes away from the holiday club but at one point I was doing a 45 minute round trip because one was in nursery.

I found the job advertised online, knew they opened in the day so negotiated hours at the interview. I know these hours are like gold dust but sometimes it's not always obvious from an advert what hours are available but unless you apply for somewhere you know only offers evening work it's always worth asking.
