To be seemingly the only one at work tomorrow

Givenupgivingashit · 18/09/2022 15:16

Apart from me and and my other NHS colleagues, all of my friends seem to be off work tomorrow, teachers, retail workers, office workers.
Please tell me that there's someone else at work keeping the country running?!

I'm working. I own a cafe bar and we're open as normal.
All day.
If anyone thinks it's disrespectful, I don't care.

I think it's sensible to open tbh. Everywhere is shut near me as far as I can tell, anyone daring to open will probably have a profitable day 🙂

PurpleBlis · 18/09/2022 17:26

I'm self employed I'll be working, otherwise I won't get paid and still need to pay childcare fees.

I am planning on watching part of the funeral though so I don't get FOMO

TimBoothseyes · 18/09/2022 17:31

Although the place isn't open to the public DD is working tomorrow. She works in an animal park so will spend most of tomorrow cuddling her beloved meerkats. 😄

PurBal · 18/09/2022 17:34

Churches are open.

Pixiedust1234 · 18/09/2022 17:38

Oh.... I thought you were going to say that you were the one officiating at Westminster, AMA 😮

BrokenWing · 18/09/2022 17:38

We have been given the choice, if we want to take the day off for the national day of mourning we can. But it won't be a floating day, you must take that day, if you don't normally work Mondays, if you have it booked off already or are sick you don't get to take it on another date (or cancel your prebooked holiday if it is already in the system). If you are required to come in you will be compensated. Seems a fair compromise to me and allows anyone who wants take part do so and those who want to take part but can't are compensated.

Lots of people already had the day booked off as it is a local holiday (not in-service day) here and schools were off anyway and they are all being mature and respectful about the context and noone has tried to say its "not fair". LA has sent out an email saying schools will be closed another day this year to make up for it 🤔, not unexpected and absolutely ridiculous that they would do this with no thought to impact on others.

I will probably be working in the morning 8-10am as I have some online meetings, then I will have the TV on in the background until 5pm when I have calls with US.

ds(18) is off for what should have been his first day at uni, and self employed dh (don't work, don't get paid) is working as normal.

I'm off, Dp will be at work at his non essential job, that could easily shut down for one day but his boss is an Ahole!

SauvignonBlanche · 18/09/2022 17:47

NHS nurse manager with a BH I never asked for but dept is closed. Am hopelessly behind on paperwork so will spend the day catching up.

Dontknowwhyidoit · 18/09/2022 18:18

My husband will be working as he is a farmer and he will probably ask me to help him as I'm off work due to the bank holiday

IroningThrone · 18/09/2022 18:19

I'm working!

DashboardConfessional · 18/09/2022 18:32

I wish I was. DS3 and I are off Fridays so day 4 of keeping him entertained when DH and I both have a stinking cold is going to be difficult.

Xiaoxiong · 18/09/2022 18:38

DH is working - boarding school and not all the kids can go home at such short notice. I'm also not "at work", but the rest of the world doesn't have a bank holiday so I anticipate a few hours of work at least if I don't want an avalanche on Tuesday morning.

NothingIsWrong · 18/09/2022 18:40

Working. Don't have the luxury of time on my current project to take a day off, I'm going ahead with a couple of meetings that were booked and need to happen

mountainsunsets · 18/09/2022 18:41

Both DH and I are off work.

The building site he works on doesn't open on bank holidays, and I'm a self-employed dog walker/pet sitter with my own business. I could work, but all my clients are home and don't really need me, and I had a stupidly busy week last week so in all honesty, I could do with a day off. I asked if anyone needed me and nobody did, so I decided to close.

I do have a horse to go and feed in the evening though but he only takes half an hour to sort out.

underneaththeash · 18/09/2022 18:47

I'm off, but I could really do with going in - but none of the patients or staff wanted to, even after the funeral. It unfortunately means that some people are going to go too long before having their post cataract check as I'm not in that practice now til Thursday.

WeeWillyWinkie9 · 18/09/2022 18:48

I am a teacher, I will be working tomorrow.

Ellami · 18/09/2022 18:48

I work in mental health but not for the NHS. Like part of lockdown and furlough, apparently the wonderful staff at CAMHS have cancelled appointments tomorrow. Must be nice. I will watch the funeral 11-12 but back to work straight after.

wonkylegs · 18/09/2022 18:51

I'm working tomorrow
Client meetings were hard enough to arrange in the first place so rebooking them was going to be a nightmare and I don't actually have enough time to do the work I have even without a BH. Self employed so if I don't work I don't get paid.

MinnieMountain · 18/09/2022 18:52

I don’t work on Mondays but the firm I work for will be shut.
DH is an actuarial contractor and has chosen to work.

Tangled123 · 18/09/2022 18:53

My office is opening as usual but we were given a choice of whether to work or not. I have exams coming up so chose to take the day off to study.

MissAmbrosia · 18/09/2022 18:55

I'm abroad so working as normal, from home though so I will watch the funeral. I did block my calendar out so noone could put meetings in there. I've ignored much of the furore though did see the grandchildren's vigil which was quite moving.

I bet your employees love working for you :)

Hearthnhome · 18/09/2022 19:00

I am on call. But it will involve 10 mins on the laptop for each call.

We have teams of people working at the funeral so they may need calls making or something sending.

So I will be at home watching as well.

Notateacheranymore · 18/09/2022 19:05

I work for a food production company🐓, and the factory is working as normal - aside from 2 1/2 hours from 1045hrs when there will be screens in various meeting rooms to watch if factory operatives want to. But they cannot leave site, and must be ready to go back to the production line at 1315hrs. 2 hours of that time is paid, 30 minutes is unpaid break time.

However, a planned 4 day visit from BRC - like an OFSTED for a food factory - is still going ahead, otherwise it would be Tues-Fri, and could go beyond 1700 hrs on the last day, and no one wants it to be the Friday!!!
