AIBU?

To be seemingly the only one at work tomorrow

Givenupgivingashit · 18/09/2022 15:16

Apart from me and and my other NHS colleagues, all of my friends seem to be off work tomorrow, teachers, retail workers, office workers.
Please tell me that there's someone else at work keeping the country running?!

I’ll be working a 10 hour shift in the office, so out over 12 hours including travel and lunch. Work for an airline.

Care worker here. My residents will still need looking after so I'll be working.

Maybe I'll get over time pay.

Ha ha ha! I almost kept a serious face typing that. Of course I'll be underpaid as usual, doing extra, clocking in early and leaving late but not getting paid more than my 11 and a half hours per shift taking my slightly over NMW to just under NMW.

Working as normal tomorrow. Happy to work as usual, will get paid an extra day for this, so it’s no hardship. Support worker in Scotland. Rest of family off.

I’m a teacher so not required to work tomorrow but I have a lot of work to do, so I’ve chosen to do it tomorrow which will free up some of my evenings/weekends.

Ditto.

As a teacher, I will be working at some point tomorrow, but from the comfort of my own home. Planning etc.

Veterinary. Open as usual and fully booked up so no chance of watching it online. Not even getting it as a day off later like the other Veterinary practices round here.

A lot of retail workers are working tomorrow while the stores are closed

I'm working tomorrow. I'm self employed so can't afford not to be. My husband would be as he's self employed too, but the site he's working on is shut so he's had no choice but to lose an entire day's pay.
I can't imagine all these businesses paying for staff to take a day off is going to do any of them any good.

I’m working too (nhs) and I have clinics to can’t really take it off otherwise it will cause havoc with our waiting lists.

I’m glad everything is shut though, I feel most things should be closed on a bank holiday. It sucks that it’s constantly the same people who have these holidays and others don’t such as retail or hospitality.

I'm working. I own a cafe bar and we're open as normal.
All day.
If anyone thinks it's disrespectful, I don't care.

My husband is a paramedic we are in the south west and there won’t even be a coffee shop open on his usual route to work, which he and his colleagues will miss doing 12 hour shifts! I don’t think it’s disrespectful at all. Also I’m guessing places will be open in London for tea and coffee etc for all the people who have gone to watch the funeral

I was going to take a day off last day for my birthday but events cancelled due to bad weather. Now Tuesday (this week) is the best weather day I don't have meetings, so I will work Monday instead of Tuesday.

I work for a food production company🐓, and the factory is working as normal - aside from 2 1/2 hours from 1045hrs when there will be screens in various meeting rooms to watch if factory operatives want to. But they cannot leave site, and must be ready to go back to the production line at 1315hrs. 2 hours of that time is paid, 30 minutes is unpaid break time.

However, a planned 4 day visit from BRC - like an OFSTED for a food factory - is still going ahead, otherwise it would be Tues-Fri, and could go beyond 1700 hrs on the last day, and no one wants it to be the Friday!!!

I am on call. But it will involve 10 mins on the laptop for each call.

We have teams of people working at the funeral so they may need calls making or something sending.

So I will be at home watching as well.

I'm abroad so working as normal, from home though so I will watch the funeral. I did block my calendar out so noone could put meetings in there. I've ignored much of the furore though did see the grandchildren's vigil which was quite moving.

My office is opening as usual but we were given a choice of whether to work or not. I have exams coming up so chose to take the day off to study.

DH is an actuarial contractor and has chosen to work.

I'm working tomorrow
Client meetings were hard enough to arrange in the first place so rebooking them was going to be a nightmare and I don't actually have enough time to do the work I have even without a BH. Self employed so if I don't work I don't get paid.

I work in mental health but not for the NHS. Like part of lockdown and furlough, apparently the wonderful staff at CAMHS have cancelled appointments tomorrow. Must be nice. I will watch the funeral 11-12 but back to work straight after.

I'm off, but I could really do with going in - but none of the patients or staff wanted to, even after the funeral. It unfortunately means that some people are going to go too long before having their post cataract check as I'm not in that practice now til Thursday.
